[Highlight] Anthony Edwards contests Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s jumper at the end of the 1st quarter, SGA thinks it was a foul (with a replay)
That was a foul
Boy that cried wolf
*Timberwolf
Shai doesn’t even complain a lot what is this shit take
You guys know Shai isnt the one who blows the whistle, right?
I think the ones that blow the whistle would be the villagers who respond to the wolves/fouls in this analogy
I’m marine if this was brown and not ant, you’d be spiraling
just lying for fake internet points
This ain’t luka
He never complains for fouls
Shai really doesn’t complain about calls often
obvious foul
Yep
Luka: Why didn’t he talk to the ref about it and twirl his finger for the next 10 minutes? He just walked to the bench and sat down.
“Come on, that was a real one!”
“its actual real this time!”
Clear foul there. Even if he got it some would still have cried about SGA taking a FT. Guy can’t catch a break!
Textbook foul
Shai fouled Ant first tbf, if they’re just gonna let him push off and extend, they might as well let the defender break the rules too
A chicken wing without extending the forearm and hand has never been a push off. Should it be a foul? Maybe. But it never had been.
He just gave him 5
For sure. Unfortunately the only ref that side is behind SGA so he didn’t have the angle. Those high five fouls/hit on the hand and wrist are pretty tough to see unless you have an angle between the players.
Some times as a ref you get stuck in a bad spot because of the player movement and miss obvious fouls.
Ant got ball first
Did seem like a foul
I thought it was a foul live 🤷♂️
Isn’t it hand to hand? That’s not a foul
that’s been a foul since the start of the season
I’m a bonified SGA hater for legit reasons. This is a foul. Cant clap the bottom of someone’s palm while the ball is still touching him.
It shocking how many people don’t understand the high five after release is not a foul, hitting someone on the hand during the shot is.
Shai’s push off was definitely a foul 5+ years ago. Maybe longer ago, but I’m old.
He didn’t extend the hand, they haven’t called that a push off in at least a decade.
I hate how that’s the rule, dudes are so good at not doing it now but generating a tonne of force
yeah anyone with a brain should know that it shouldnt be allowed. defense is hard af as it is, especially against someone like SGA…allowing him to shove you to create space is dumb af.
Everyone plays with the same rules you clown
no shit…we are talking about a specific clip. pushing with your elbow shouldn’t be allowed by ANY player…sga just so happens to be the best at it…and I the fucking video. dumbass dickriders in this sub
That’s literally day 1 fundamentals of basketball man. Off elbow OUT.
That’s basketball, you don’t like the rules of the game, but no need to cry and say the game should be changed.
It’s been played the same for decades, and players have used their body to physically separate. It’s the same as big men shoulder bumping in the post - we don’t just say NOOOOOO IT SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED BECAUSE HES SO GOOD AT IT!!! You don’t change basketball because people get good at basketball lmao.
Not even close to true
I propose we change the entire game of basketball from day 1 fundamentals. We should change it to off arm can’t come out and has to stay tucked into your side. Only the forearm is allowed to come out.
Then we should re-name the sport.
Sometimes I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Players have been pushing off for decades.
The most famous, iconic shot in NBA history is a push off.
That’s nowhere near what they do now days. It’s literally a truck stick and full extension into the chest/torso.
mj hand was barely on touching while switch directions.
Kawhi didnt push off …
You’re not, these couch rotters have never played basketball before. Using your off hand is literally a fundamental part of the game.
A player got really good and people just want to cry about him.
Yep. It is exactly how first year players are taught to dribble. Arm out, but keep the elbow bent.
You’re arm out and elbow bent is what SGA does? People are just mad he’s out there pulling little league moves. I swear yall don’t even think before typing
I think this is the biggest thing. People thought Shai was going to be good, but not a superstar. In their heads he shouldn’t be an MVP caliber player so they look for every excuse in the book to prove he’s just cheating the system.
I mean, I coach ball and adapt with the times. Can’t remember when I didn’t play and watch ball. A swipe at defenders hands - for sure okay. A stiff arm like a running back is not. Players will always explore what the refs allow.
A stiff arm is a straightened extension of the entire arm
Couch rotters lmao. Dude flops like a fish, that’s why he’s become so unlikable. Was this a foul on him for push off? Definitely not. Foul on Ant for hand to hand? Think so under the new rules
Just because SGA “got really good” doesn’t absolve him of criticism for his lame attempts at constantly foul baiting
He’s #1 in drives for the past 6 years while being outside of top 10 for fouls per drive. You really need to watch more games instead of clips of foul baiting.
Yes, if you watch clips of him foul baiting, you’ll think he’s always lfoul baiting
r/NBA would lose their minds if they ever watched MJ play.
it hasn’t been a foul since jordan lol
5+ years ago people were complaining about PG pushoffs and Giannis offensive fouls lol
Just a lil high five from Ant
Chris Finch’s tantrum is the gift that keeps on giving.
This actually was a foul. Now people who defend his game and the calls he gets are going to use this footage for the next two seasons.
I just see a high five, which is still allowed despite popular media saying it’s not. The change to the high five rule was contact at the release plus follow through is not allowed.
So, you’re still allowed to do what Ant does here, put your hand up and make contact after the release, but you’re not allowed to swipe and follow through after the release.
Maybe y’all are seeing contact before the release, but I don’t see it that way. Close call though. Hard to see in real time.
I agree with you here, devils advocate maaaybe he brushed Shai’s elbow on the way up, but other than that, watching in slow,-mo that is a clean high-five that doesn’t touch his forearm, crazy good contest to the shot.
Can’t even tell on a slow reply, so no way you could tell live. It’s incidental at best anyways.
Not a foul
It looks like he high fives him when his fingertips are still on the ball causing it to impact the shot. It’s close though.
Hand is part of the ball, that’s not a foul.
Woah Reddit combined two of my comments into one weirdly. I’ve removed that first sentence.
But, to the point of your reply. I could see someone saying it’s the wrist, but it’s close either way.
Does Ant touch the ball slightly? Would that change the interpretation of the rules?
The change to the high five rule was contact at the release plus follow through is not allowed.
He clearly impacted his follow through though. Nobody naturally ends their shot with their hand still straight up, he was still flicking his wrist for the follow through.
Huh
Fucking insane comment to make like people don’t already clip a bad call with him the second it happens to score internet points lol. “People who defend his game” you mean people who like basketball yeah
This is not a popular take outside of Thunder echo chambers fyi.
Because sports fans online are famously rational about teams that consistently bust their favorite team’s ass
Only 2 years? Someone’s feeling optimistic
Starting one of those Instagram pages where I post the same clip every day as we speak.
Im bad with the rules, is it a foul cause he was in his landing zone with lower leg contact? Cause i thought hand touches were legal unless it was at the three, ie “the hand is part of the ball”
He got fouled all quarter this is ridiculous officiating
Inconsistent AF too
Not a shooting foul on Chet? CMON
That was horrid. Chet and Shai been mauled all game too.
They are letting them maul him lmao 🤣 everyone else on the team are getting calls but him
I personally don’t care about fouls officiating flopping whatever but I just find it so funny it’s Timberwolves fans players and coaches crying about them not getting calls when all they did was foul in 2024
Yeah, I imagine players complaining about officiating would be something you would be used to as a Nuggets fan in that series. Not everyone can throw objects on to the court because you don’t like a no call and get away with it. But we are the ones crying, right?
You care a lot more about this when you’re behind the Wolves in seeding and Wolves losing this game benefits you. Let’s be real.
Nah man he doesn’t care. Also not still upset about losing to the Wolves in 2024. He clearly doesn’t care. It was just a random example and he’s clearly not upset bringing it up two years later. Clearly no agenda from him.
lol they are to the nuggets what the 2023 nuggets are to the Lakers
I’ve noticed in real life, when people are really focused on calling you out for something, it’s usually projection. Like Jaylen Brown always complaining about ethical basketball, yet he’s one of the worst baiters I’ve ever seen. When my friend’s ex got super paranoid about him cheating (which he wasn’t), we later found out she had actually been cheating the whole time.
Funny how OKC fans are suddenly capable of noticing inconsistent officiating. Lmao.
and they complain about shai, jokic, doncic flopping
Now how does that feel
I think there were about 20 uncalled fouls between both teams in the 1st
Good. Let them play
Refs didn’t want another finch tanty
Foul. SGA should have around 8 FTs this quarter already but we’ll take it I guess.
You know ball. Refs letting both team play rn. I won’t complain as long as it’s even.
Refs always “let them play” until they freak out over how physical it gets and then make a terrible call.
Or sometimes they have those nights where they’re so sensitive with the whistle they end up messing up the whole momentum of a game.
3 1⁄2 hour long games
I’m an sga hater but i admit this is a foul here. With that said, i’m always pro just let them play. Im so sick of how much nba players and fouls are called these days. I hate the stoppages
I’d be devastated for weeks if a thunder fan told me I know ball. Humiliating.
I’d be devastated if my favorite team wasn’t the reigning champs rn
Sometimes they go our way sometimes they don’t. C’est la vie.
usually sga doesn’t complain about the calls he doesn’t get so its kinda wierd seeing him complain
exasperated body language too, like it had been piling up
it had been
looked like he was getting fouled on most of his shots this quarter tbh
Nah most were open step backs he bricked. But there were a couple that looked like missed calls.
What is Chris Finch gonna say about this post game?
If they win? Nothing.
If they lose? Cry some more.
He cried: You can’t touch Shai
You are a visionary
Why is no one clipping this game
Narratives
I can’t believe how afraid these refs are of Chris Finch man
10k upvotes if it was other way around
I mean i’m biased, but with the current rules that is a clear foul
Genuinely, what happened to the thunder’s offense whistle? It’s dried up to nothing last few games
Commissioner called and said that was enough
If people had been paying attention theyd know okc has had one of the worst FT disparities in the league over the last 4 or so years. This is just one of them games.
Chris Finch’s impassioned speech two or so months ago dropped the foul calls on OKC.
No more high five rule, right? So this is def a foul?
The foul here is contact on the elbow and forearm.
The high five change is about followthrough on the hand. I think the intent of the change was to prosecute the Dillon Brooks exploitation that he used to target Curry’s injured thumb. I don’t think they really intended the rule to completely get rid of the high five contest.
Gotcha. Appreciate the clarification
I feel like it’s body contact more than that even
LMAO. Top 1% commenter and you dont know the rules.
I just talk in game threads a lot man I got the badge in like a day last playoffs lol
Exceptions: Marginal or light incidental contact during a legal, vertical closeout may still be considered allowed.
Since Edwards is pretty vertical I think the high five is borderline but probably still a foul. The elbow contact is def a foul though
Clear foul.
I mean that is just a foul that wasnt called, not much else to it
Certainly should’ve been a foul.
Well he thinks it’s a foul because it is very clearly a foul
THAT was a foul.
He was fouled.
Why would you even post this lmao
It was requested by another user
come on man. we really need a replay to see if shai airballed without being fouled?
Oh no, the “50th in education” is spreading to North Texas. May God save you my brother.
Probably more sympathy if he wasn’t getting so many non-fouls called his way
Don’t know what you mean with that title because it was clearly a foul
Gonna be one of these games huh?
SGA crying about not getting foul calls is peak boy who cried wolf.
Yep a foul
The refs determined it was a high five and good sportsmanship and therefore not a foul
I blame Temu Jeff Daniels for this
Womp womp
Weird how quick these clips get posted, as if people are watching the game purely for them. Like, whats genuinely the motive?
Obviously a foul.
Also a travel before the 3⁄4 court shot, not that it matters at all.
It was a foul, but refs are flippy floppy with those kind of fouls
That’s cause it was a foul.
He grazed ball FIRST on the shot, follow through hit Shai’s hand — no foul lol
you win chris finch!
SGA a bum
Yea because it’s a foul….
It was a foul. Lame sure, but waayyy less lame than numerous “high 5” fouls.
Are we all seeing the same thing? He got ball first. Unless I’m not seeing this correctly.
It’s close and a no call is reasonable. The contact was with an empty hand and Edwards was close to vertical. It didn’t look like he swiped FTAs arm on the way up either. Probably a foul but not exactly an egregious no call.
Dude is insanely unlikable
Touches the arm, it’s a foul.
I mean it was a foul, lol.
Came in expecting to hate watch a dumb shai flop but nah that was the definition of a shooting foul.
SGA - natural shooting motion trying to get the foul with his leg.
Ant hitting SGA’s hand after release.
Two fouls - one from each. Cancel each other out. Keep playing.
Brings me so much joy to see him on the wrong side of one these. His little stomp and pout away, wow. Inject it into my fucking veins.
Well, this is what happens when you fucking foul bait all the time.
Oh, I’m sure they will make up for it
Yeah that’s a foul.
Lol watching people here who cry about Shai foul baiting now struggling to admit a clear foul is hilarious 😂😂
Trying to fit a square-shaped narrative into a triangle-shaped reality is hard 😂😂
Isn’t this the high five thing that isn’t supposed to be called?
I used to hear “foul” and think of some kind of hard contact that impedes the shot
Now I understand that “foul” means touch or touché
It’s like fencing 🤺
of course doris the OKC fluffer thinks it is a foul. she thinks every time an OKC player go up, they are getting fouled
looking forward to chris finch’s thoughts on this
Broken clock is right twice a day.
I’m not gonna lie. I’m not calling that
Genuine question.
Hand on the ball is part of the ball, correct? So ant hitting the ball and hand of the shooter is just like blocking the ball?
Where is the foul? Only thing is a maybe Ant’s hand on SGA shooting arm but hard to tell. The high five after SGA released the ball is not a foul.
Consensus seems to be foul, and maybe I’m old, but isn’t this borderline?
Something something turntables
Probably was. Oh well. Move on
Shai got a terrible whistle in the first quarter, it happens I guess, but I’m sure it won’t get any traction compared to the nights he gets a good one
I get why sga complained, because he rarely gets contact initiated against him so it was a weird feeling.
But Minnesota plays a similar defense as okc where they dare the refs to call every foul, and im the context of these two teams, its the correct no call.
I need a meme of him swinging his hands like a child
Why is this a foul
imagine thinking that wasn’t a foul
I mean it was. He hit his arm and leg. He baits some sure but he does actually generally get fouled. Most of the best players do, officiating is just inconsistent.
Cool, now do all the times that Steph was fouled but there was no call….
Yeah he high-fived him its a foul.
Finch vs OKC whistle is legendary
Lmao bitching for not getting a call in his favor for once.
Stop crying ant way better go t wolves
Foul or not I’m tired of seeing players bitching. It’s making the nba unwatchable. Seems like every possession someone is crying.
Didn’t touch him ‘til SGA followed through and high-fived him.
But whiners gonna whine!
High five after the ball is clear is such a silly foul. No impact on the shot, and usually no risk of injury to the shooter. Just let it go.
Keep your legs in. First foul was made by SGA and that should be called.
Take the L
That all you can say? Pretty sad.
As requested by u/chef_iblocka
the way they jump and around crying is pathetic
it was a foul but LMAO he was moving like a toddler throwing a tantrum complaining after
