I’m not sure what it was in the end, but at one point 16 of 23 Duren’s points were off of Cade’s assists. Guy was an absolute lob-machine in the second half, and came down with everything.

Cade finished with 15 assists to just 3 TOVs in an efficient win. Since the ASB, Cade is averaging 11.8 assists per game (1st), and has 10 games with double-digit assists out of 12. (3:1 AST:TO)

Meanwhile Duren has averaged ²³⁄₁₁ on 61% TS since the ASB.

Obviously I’m rooting for Jok to stay ahead cause I’d really like to see him finally lead the league in assists (and rebounds in the same season!) but Cade is an incredible playmaker finally having teammates who can fully capitalize. Duren’s leap has really helped, I think they’re sandwiched between Murray to Jokic and Jokic to Murray as the 2nd most assists from one player to another (Cade to Duren)

Not to sound arrogant but the Pistons have one of the easiest schedules left in the East and Boston has one of the hardest. We are 5 games up on Boston(6 with tie breaker) and 7.5 up on Cleveland with 16 games left. The number 1 seed is pretty much assured.

The way I know this is bullshit is because if you’d watch his playmaking this year you wouldn’t have this opinion.

Couple points,

Cade is almost tied for first in the league in APG, while leading his team in scoring, while being a good defender. Most ²⁵⁄₁₀ guys that go through the league are usually traffic-cones, what he’s doing on both ends of the court is borderline MVP-level.

The stats back me up on this. The Pistons are 10 points better per game offensively when Cade is on the court. When Cade is on the court, our ORTG is 121.3, which is just .4 behind #1 Denver. When Cade is off the court, our ORTG is 111, tied with Washington for 26th. Our team eFG% improves from .516 to .552 with him on, our AST% is 4.2% better, and our TOV% reduces by 2.8%.

By EPM, Cade is in the 99th percentile in AST%, and 85th defensively (third best in NBA as starting PG).

Cade is 4th in the NBA in overall plus-minus and #1 in the East at +486. Second place on Detroit is Duncan at +380, then Duren at +374.

Everybody and their mothers wants Cade to improve his overall efficiency, but it doesn’t take away from his insane impact offensively and defensively as a whole, and is overstated. Cade’s TS% this season is 56.5%, league average for a PG is… 56.5%. This is also in-spite of the fact that 69.5% of his points are unassisted, which is fifth highest in the league.

Obviously you want him closer to 60%, but I can live with average scoring efficiency if I get elite playmaking, great defense, good scoring volume, and good rebounding out of it.

And man, I love Duren, he’s a ²⁰⁄₁₀ machine. He’s not an All-Star without Cade as it stands. Only 36% of his FGs made are unassisted, and like I even mentioned in my post, something like 2/3rds of his points tonight were off Cade lobs. Cade is definitively the best player on our team, and it’s not all that close as of now.
