Luka Doncic on visiting UCLA Health patients yesterday: “You go there and then you realize that you don’t really have problems in your life at all.”
i needed to hear this im literally stressed about my ex
You don’t need her king
You need a comma there, buddy.
Tbh he probably doesn’t need her king, either.
You don’t have a choice, the king has jus primae noctis. So if your ex runs off with a king, he’s allowed to bang you. Rules are rules.
wait-
Breath deeply peasant, the king is ready.
I’m working at the pyramids tonight
I watched a video about Braveheart. Apparently that whole thing about sleeping with his wife was BS. They never did that.
Yeah, nah. But it is true if your girl starts dating the king. He’s totally allowed.
How else is he supposed to beat his ex at chess? He literally needs her king.
Being in comma?
To give him perspective
Makes you realize you don’t really have problems in your life at all
Maybe, have you seen her king?
I’m not your buddy, pal.
I’m not your pal, friend.
Be careful of your pal, friendpatine.
No kings
True
no no, apparently she has a king and for one would like to hear more about it
Delete that number and that contact king. Run, Walk, or crawl but only move forward.
Try going through divorce. I’m going on 3 years of divorce and won’t be left alone. I was in a car accident that made me disabled and the judge is somehow ruling I owe her everything I have any way despite her being the reason I’m disabled in the first place.
I wouldn’t even care if she fucked every other guy on the planet. I just want to keep the money I made and not pay it to a monster. Oh, and I paid her loans for her to become a doctor.
So she basically said f u after u got disabled ?
Tatakae u/imin2099
You’re in 2099, they’re probably dead, forget about it all.
Whatever happened there
It’s gonna beat your ass for a lil bit but after some time you’ll realise you’re in a better space without her.
W replies
she is an ex, dont let her stress you out.
Your ex is just gonna be added to a pile of people you’ve forgotten existed after not seeing them for long enough, don’t let other people stop you from doing you.
well, look at Mr-I-don’t-think-about-my-ex over here!
right like damn i love all the support but look at all these mfs who dont think bout their ex
This generally isn’t true and it’s not a healthy way to heal . It’s not healthy to just remove significant chunks of your life from your memory because the person you experienced it with broke your heart. Moving on means accepting the relationship for what it was, learning from it, and looking back at it as a part of your life where you made some good memories and experienced growth. Heartbreak is a chance for growth but for that growth to happen you have to embrace that the relationship and ensuing heartbreak is now part of who you are.
Get new bitches
get used bitches
Let someone else take the depreciation hit. Bitches lose 20% of their value the moment you drive them off the lot!
Nah switch to dudes. Homies are a better chill anyways
Moving on is always worth it.
Luka?
Time heals all wounds you’ll be good king
Same bro same.
Been there man. It’s easier said than done, but it gets better when you realize that it’s just a chapter in a much bigger story of your life. There are good chapters and bad chapters, but you are awesome and valuable with or without that person. Go do some fun stuff, hang with the friends you ignored when it was date night, and be the best version of you.
You are a whole person, you don’t need to be completed. Go live your life. Good luck!
The best revenge is a happy life. 🫶
It’s gonna be okay.
Fuck that db
She’s an ex for a reason champ
You and luka both
Focus on yourself and health! Relationships come and go!
She’s a bitch though
ahahahahahah i love blindly hating people who hurt ppl “nah fuck them for real”. every single one of my friends has said if they ever meet this girl theyre cussing her the fuck out. “not even respectfully, i hate her and fuck that chick”
She’s your ex for a reason. You can be sad, you can miss the good times, but there’s no need to be stressed. It’s over. Treat yourself well during this time, it gets better
Been there. It always gets better man.
You get yourself down to an ER in south LA.
Hit the gym
Step 2: try and remember your facebook password so you can delete it
it’s hard, and it’s okay for it to be hard, but it will pass. well studied psychology research suggests that we pretty much universally get over that kind of thing quicker than it feels like we will. but it sucks a lot now, and that’s okay. our limbic system is evolved to tell us that pain is permanent because that’s how it best gets us to respond to pain. doesn’t function as nicely when it comes to grieving a loss though.
i’ve been listening to a podcast called office hours (arthur brooks) lately that touches on this topic and many others having to do with mental wellbeing. i recommend it to anyone wishing they were happier. there are more practical and manageable steps to be taken than a lot of people realize.
You should call her
Your ex sucks king. She didn’t see your value. Kobe said success is lonely journey at times. Keep your head up king, even LeBron lost in his first finals appearance and MJ got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs a few times when he first came into the league.
Anyone who causes you stress continuously in your daily life does not deserve a place in it
Spring is here, time to ramp up bro
Delete the contact, remove the photos.
It gets so much better after a few months. Take it from me.
Get out and hoop boss
You get those floor tix?
There will be plenty more, my friend. You’ll be fine.
as someone who hung out and kissed his ex last week, i feel you dude. all i can say is stop looking back, were not going there, were moving forward. still sucks
We’ve been there brother, weather the storm
No it’s Luka that doesn’t have problems. You’ve still got a shit ton.
The ex will win games 1 and 2. You just gotta focus on winning the series.
Time heals all bro
Too bad Pelinka isn’t a love GM
Some people put this in their notepad and some people put this on a Reddit thread
Real. Obviously you’re always gonna care about your problems more, but it’s always good to pause sometimes and think how some of that shit is insignificant compared to actual issues
Health issues make everything else seem insignificant
I remember having the worst diarrhea/stomach cramp of my life the other night ago and at that moment as I was in a cradle position, nothing else mattered.
I’m jobless and facing homelessness(yup, CS grad) and I still think about how I’d pray to be in the situation I’m in now versus being in a bad health phase because health is everything when you don’t have it.
If it makes you feel better cs with 6 yoe and struggling to get anything. No big tech firms, self taught. Worked on some large projects and led teams but I feel like if I don’t perfectly answer everything I’m clipped.
What
Job hunting in the big 26
Not sure that’s gonna help lol
How would that possibly make him feel better
This is a very comforting thing from a CS Major that graduates next year…ugh
Ironically, healthcare is where its at. All the boomers are old and dying, i work in wheelchair DME and we had a record month of power chair deliveries, each one if its a high end chair is about 14k gross profit and our company which is local and not national, sold 14 of them in February.
You get commission for each one too, you get 5% of gross profit, and guy did 9, and if you do the math, thats about 4500 commission for a month’s work.
I have the same issue that pops up. Look into bentyl
I had that for years on end. Would often just lie on the ground saying nonesense and wishing I would die. All that remains in your head is the pain. Almost drove me to suicide, but after a couple of years, medication brought relief.
A healthy man has a 1000 wishes, a sick man only one
To date sophie cunningham
Yes
Everyone got a hundred problems till they get a health problem, then they got only one
Gaining perspective allows you to lower your ego. Another version I like is realizing how vast the world/universe truly is and how such a small part individually we are in comparison. Helps reframe the mind and lower the ego.
I ran a brain injury support group for a few years and have never been the same since. That shit will really make you appreciate having full control of your mind and body.
I lived abroad as an adult for 16 years. Feel like that expanded my views tremendously.
The Earth alone is over 4.5 billion years old. There are creatures on this planet who existed far longer than humanity that may possible outlast us. We as individuals will only exist for the most insignificant fraction of that. So sometimes things are not that big of a deal.
That doesn’t mean one should ignore their problems, of course. But being able to re-frame them may help you process them better and allow you to to overcome them.
I feel like a lot of people can’t handle that type of worldview and it gives them anxiety.
Though, at the same time, you can reach anyone, anywhere on the planet, instantly.
My grandma always had this saying growing up that probably others did when I was going through a tough time.
“If this is the worst thing to ever happen to you, then you’ve lived a pretty good life”
Just nice perspective in the moment that’s needed
Was on vacation in cuba Last year. Seeing how some people have to hustle to just feed their kids makes you humble asf
World would be a better place (specifically USA) if everyone was forced to go there and see how bad it could be.
Amen to that.
Highly recommend volunteering at a food kitchen. Food scarcity is such a major problem in this country, you will quickly see just how many “normal” people come in for meals/food.
It is quite a thing to be at a crowded neighborhood kitchen and realize that almost none of the people who are there are “homeless” in the way most people imagine. Lots of families with children, lots of working people. I remember talking to one of the full-time workers there and he told me that the stereotypical rough-sleeping homeless are maybe 5-10% of the clientele on any given day.
Visit a cemetery and you get the same feeling, our problems don’t really matter that much. Everyone is going through something and then you die 😂
Luka is just a genuinely good guy
Well I have been to AAC for Mavs games a lot in the past 10 year or so, dude is the only player I have seen who takes as much time to sign stuff as much he does for fans.
And from the videos it’s the even more in road games.
anyone else that complained as much on the court would’ve been hated here…and i hated that he did it. but hes so good and seems like a genuine great dude and fun. miss him 😢
He is just a big old baby. That is how I see his whining lol. But it also makes him affable beyond a certain extent
That comes from his Madrid days. Every time he gets interviewed by a Spanish journalist he comes off as a very humble and polite person, which is funny considering his antics on the court at times.
100% at odds with his on-court shit lol. Also cannot stand watching SGA play basketball 75% of the time but off the court he seems like a genuinely nice and humble guy
Chris Paul and DWade both seem like great people off the court. I respected both on the court, but also loathed both of their BS.
Seems like a lot of the players can compartmentalize their toxicity (if you even want to call it that) to just the game.
I’ve played a couple of video games at or near a world class level. While games are known to have a toxic atmosphere due to anonymity and younger competition, there is something to be said about achieving maximized results when you are purely driven by competition and no longer care what people think about your frustrations. Some people just show it differently, and some are embarrassing to otherwise reasonable and kind people.
In what world does Chris Paul seem like a great guy off the court?
What makes him not a good guy off the court?
How much time do you have?
I mean genuinely what has he done, I hated him as a player cause he was dirty and cried all the time
It’s the Canadian in him. He’s like a hockey player, nice everywhere but in the rink on the court.
This is the case for his english interviews too
A lot of the superstars in the nba are. Bron, Shai, Wemby, Giannis and Jokic.
They are all just good guys that are elite at basketball.
Again though for the kids reading, nobody is your role model.
Giannis will happily get you addicted to Kalshi if it makes him a few extra bucks.
As frustrating as I find some of his behavior during games on the court, I have never heard/seen anything but a great guy off it.
It’s how I imagine most people see Russ, though Luka is much better to NBA media than Russ is.
Yea but he doesn’t play for my team so I gotta pretend he ain’t.
Until you ask him to play defense.
All the comments pointing out how dumb this comment is especially given current news getting downvoted to hell is so on par with this sub lmao
It’s not a suffering competition (someone will always have you beat) and just because some people have larger or more difficult problems than you doesn’t mean your problems are less real or valid. We’re all fighting different battles.
That being said, I do agree that occasionally stepping outside of your own bubble (everyone lives in a bubble) can make you gain perspective and appreciate the things you do have in your life.
He doesn’t say that at all, he just said that health is the most important thing in your life, it’s more that the rest of the problems can be solved from there.
Exactly. Even guys like Luka or Lebron who have hundreds of millions to spend can’t buy health. Every other problem has solution. But health? Only so much modern medicine can do
Id bet AD would give millions of his earnings just to have a healthy career
AD deserved better than the injury luck he was dealt. Dude seems like a good guy
That’s… also not contradicting what I said.
More people need to hear all of what you just said. Very well put.
It’s not a suffering competition (someone will always have you beat) and just because some people have larger or more difficult problems than you doesn’t mean your problems are less real or valid.
I don’t really agree with this. It’s about how you properly frame situations in your life as “problems”.
If you work at Intel or AMD and make $150k salary, and keep failing interviews at Meta or OpenAI, sure you might think it’s a “problem”, but it is healthy and grounded to realize that that problem is not really a “problem” in the grand scheme of things when you see what’s going on in the world (or even just seeing how people have to live on the streets in your own city).
It’s 100% fine to acknowledge that most of millionaires/billionaires “problems” are not as severe as others.
If you worked at amd for the last decade or two and held onto your stocks you could be retired by now.
Intel stock sucks but they offer a pension plan.
Using your example.
Imagine it’s your dream working at Meta or OpenAI, it’s not just a job, it’s a passion and a dream you want to fulfill.
Sure you might not be struggling financially or professionally but it’s affecting you and your mental health. Am I supposed to tell that person that’s clearly affected by that, why are you complaining when there are people dying on the streets or dealing with terminal illnesses?
Like I said, it’s not a suffering competition.
You might think that losing your job and getting evicted are problems, but there’s a homeless person that hasn’t had a hot shower in a decade, but then there are refugees that lost their family and friends to war and are stuck in refugee camps with no prospects of a future, and so on.
Everyone’s problems are valid and real.
People act indignant all the time for all sorts of reasons. Some people’s problems are not problems, but they make them out to be anyways because they’re privileged and entitled. If it can be solved with money, it’s not a real problem. Health is a real problem.
Being homeless is a real problem that can be solved with money… what the fuck are you talking about
Everybody has things to deal with. The expectation is that people have the ability to deal with some problems well because dealing with problems is just a part of life. For the more difficult stuff, obviously we sympathize more. For the less difficult stuff, we sympathize less.
I am not sorry, you not being able to work at your dream job is not one of those problem that I sympathize with. That is playing on easy mode and complaining it’s hard. I’m sure it’s hard for you, but it’s not for everybody else. If you are already on the easiest difficulty, all I can say is “git gud.”
While it’s not a competition, there are expectations. How many people whose dream job is playing in the NBA or MLB or something like that? If you can’t handle not being able to work at your dream job, it is entirely a you problem because everybody else in the world can handle it.
I don’t know dude, my sympathy isn’t limited to just “real” problems or to people that are living in “hard” mode. I certainly wouldn’t see someone affected by not getting his/her dream job and tell them “git gud noob. Sucks to suck.”
If you work at Intel or AMD and make $150k salary, and keep failing interviews at Meta or OpenAI
Uhh… working at Meta is a more desirable than working at AMD?? I guess it depends on the specific job but AMD is a far more desirable place to work than Meta outside of the absolute top earners. Average salary at AMD is almost 200k and at Meta it’s considerably lower.
it’s so easy in life to see Ls around us. i think it’s human nature to focus on them. it’s a sign that we want to always be better. but i’ve found that being mindful to take the time focusing on the Ws has led to me being so much happier in life. it wasn’t something that i embraced until later in life.
Going to a third world country always reminds me of that. Oh shit I actually have it good, type feels
All the homies who did therapy agree with you, that’s a truth right there!
I mean, his current custody battle is a real problem, but I guess that makes these comments even kinder in a way because yeah, at least his kids are healthy.
Noooo he and the babymomma broke up? Weren’t the childhood sweethearts?
Yes they were childhood friends and together since 16.
Yep. There’s definitely more to the story but the initial report on this all blew up the same day Bam scored 83.
Why did Bam do this man? So disrespectful
I still feel she might have agreed to move if he was still in Dallas. At least there would have been more familiar faces. We can’t blame her as well, she also has a life.
I think he was most likely referring to his own problems when making this comment. Like yes the custody battle is hard, but compared to what those people at the hospital are going through you get some more perspective.
He ethically pulled himself out from getting a 50 point triple double because he visited the hospital meanwhile Bam dropping 83 and taking people off of hospice smh Adam Silver needs to step in
War crimes on the court. Never thought I’d see the day
“It was incredibly sad, looking into their faces and seeing they have no hope. That they know they won’t go much farther, their problems are not fixable and all will be over soon” said a UCLA patient after meeting the Lakers players
Sure they have a good record but have you seen their point differential? They’re gonna collapse any day now
You only know what you know.
If you’re lucky enough, you gain some perspective in this world and can truly count your blessings.
Perspective is a beautiful thing.
Yup, this, Luka. I have had MS since 2001 - slow, consistent decline in walking, bowel, bladder function. Spasticity- muscle pain everyday. Appreciate your health and use your body while you can! Even if you don’t “get something” aging happens to everyone. And be happy with what you can still do today or you will be miserable. Try not to live in the past. I am done with my preaching.
every american needs to hear this
I think anyone anywhere in the world would benefit from hearing this.
I’m an Australian and this is just great advice.
us americans have been so privileged with the global order benefiting us so greatly and we are collectively about to find out how good we had it.
Idk Luka I think youre allowed to feel bad about not seeing your kids.
Working in healthcare as a RN (specifically Oncology dealing with cancer patients), I feel this 100%. Most of our real world life problems are insignificant compared to some people who are dealt the unfortunate card of terminal disease. More and more of my patients are teens and 20 something year olds who should be having the time of their lives and out with their friends but, instead, stuck in the hospital for months fighting for their life everyday. It really humbles you when you think of it from this perspective. Good on Luka to put this out there, and it’s a reminder to enjoy life and be thankful for every single day.
what a real line damn
The timing was unfortunately hilarious but it was also Girl’s Dads Night for the Lakers, so I’m sure he appreciates the perspective with everything happening
I think people actively conflate perspective with gratitude. The health patients don’t exist to make you feel ‘better’ about yourself, but they can help you frame perspective on how far down you may feel about yourself own situation. Gratitude should be the end goal - the fact that your life has many good things are where your mind should go. Not to pretend you can’t feel bad about things that hurt you. I like this dude.
As much as I respect, I hate how we have to look “down” at a situation to realize how blessed we are. Sadly, many people have to.
Gaining perspective allows you to lower your ego
There are other ways to do that besides looking at someone’s situation that is “worse” than ours but that’s what we’ve been taught.
Luka, those are true words brother
Sometimes I’m so stressed and angsty from raising two young kids in this crazy ass world. Then I see someone really suffering and I feel guilty I even had those thoughts.
If you have good health you have a million problems. If you have bad health you have one problem.
I hope Iverson was in attendance to learn from him.
That takes practice. 👀
RIP Dad.
Luka definitely has problems in his personal life. I wouldn’t wish these custody problems on anyone.
Everyone needs to see something like this every once in a while. Atleast I’m not dying. Even though life fucking sucks right now.
I don’t say this much because what’s the point, people can’t understand. But being severely ill, it’s like your entire healthy life id a preamble to the horror that awaits. I’ve been very sick for 6 years, having a bad spell. Checked back in on my online group, several folks looking at feeding tubes, horror you can’t imagine. Many begging for death. One person who has lost hope, being consoled by another, stating they have been severe for 16 years.
The only thing and only problem you’ll ever have in your life is your health. Unfortunately you can’t know that truth until it’s too late, most of the time. But trust me, the horror awaits and you really should enjoy life while you can.
This post has strong ‘can’t ignore it’ energy.
Even easier to say when you’re rich as hell and play basketball for a living.
Great clip for court
Thanks for the reminder, Luka. You the man
I imagine he still doesn’t get the magnitude of how rough it is since the lakers /nba pick up the tab
Facts
Does this mean he’s going to stop complaining to the refs?
Perspective is a hell of a thing.
Which just proves how billionaires are sociopaths having enough money to fix all of the world’s problems and instead just fucking over more people for money.
Your post history is hidden btw so no one can see your other posts about it. It does feel like you’re leaving out details but if this is truly the whole story I’m sorry you’re dealing with that.
An unfortunate side effect of men being the primary breadwinners historically is that they often get the short end of the stick in divorce, but also in things like pensions. I have old male family members whose wives died before them and their pensions are dramatically cut (but that wouldn’t be the case for the wife if she lived longer).
That’s not the full title, it’s actually this:
Luka Doncic on visiting UCLA Health patients yesterday: “You go there and then you realize that you don’t really have problems in your life at all” said one of the patients
Reminds of Dames quote years ago about real preassure with single mothers/parents iircc
Though my problems are meaningless
that don’t make them go away
I need a crowd of people
But I can’t face them day to day
I understand what he’s saying but it’s also important to understand that some problems can’t be tossed to the side. For example, if you’re suffering from depression and you decide to ignore it because someone has it “worse” than you, it could make the problem even worse. Suffering isn’t a competition. I’m ofc not trying to compare someone’s console being broken to someone with cancer.
Madison Cline would fix all my problems .
LUCA PR TOUR…Actual Child support KEKW
Holy hell the sad cynicism on some of the posters here. This was a very nice way to put his recognition of their struggles, which he and the Lakers were helping to make people aware of.
