The Cade thing wasn’t because people felt Cade would be a deserving MVP (well maybe Pistons fans did but no one else did).

It was because SGA was set to miss an undetermined number of games when he went out before the ASB, Jokic has almost missed too many games to qualify for end of season awards (16 out of a max of 17), Wemby has almost missed too many to qualify (15), and Luka is only slightly behind them in games missed (12). All of these dudes except SGA missed a bunch during the early and mid season period where people wondered if they wouldn’t make the cutoff - and they still might not! There are like 15 games to go and they’re all (other than SGA) on a razor’s edge of one missed week killing their EoS award chances.

No one thinks that Cade is the best player in the league, but he was the best of the rest when the Pistons were mid-domination of the East (which has come back to Earth somewhat).

He has a high number of deflections as well, usually top 3 in the League. Like last game he deflected a ball off opposing player and became Lakers ball. Doesn’t count as a steal though. 

They used the fake “ blow by” stat to slander him in the finals and it’s been the narrative since. He has been one of the better defenders on our roster

Realistically Luka should be minimum 3rd on the mvp ladder rn and imo should be second, hopefully he gets moved up soon

I think a major reason for the media being tired of Luka is that he was the betting favourite to win MVP a couple of years in a row and never did it, so they just moved on. Not to mention, Jokić became an all-time force during those years and basically killed any chances of Luka getting a fair shot. He should have won it in 23-24, but the goal post always moved for him.
