People always complain about the quality of basketball especially the casuals but the talent in the league now is insane. Its just so poorly ran, I really feel like if Adam Silver cared about quality instead of getting eyes on the product fast and as many ads as possible it could rival the NFL but its so far away from that reality.

They are 3rd rn. Before the season I heard of the lakers win 55 games and are top 3, Luka is mvp unless the thunder win 70. Lakers would have to play insane to get 55 wins but I still would like the media to not write off Luka like they have
I agree with you but I think the difference will be voter fatigue next year. Shai is having a historic season and is playing better than Luka (both have been great but I’d give the edge to Shai). I don’t think he’ll win 3 straight though so reasonably it can go to Luka.
They will give it to Cade or Wemby next year if voter fatigue kicks in for SGA, mark my words. The only chance he wins is if Lakers are an actual 1st seed.
That said, I don’t think Luka would be too mad about it considering the award has been trending in the wrong direction for a while now and he knows media doesn’t like him, which makes it almost impossible to win that award: if he gets a ring, Finals MVP and keeps being 1st in All-Star voting, he would definitely be more happy than with regular season MVP.

Jokic was the consensus best player in the world for the past 5 years or so and I think its very very safe to say Luka was never in those discussions with jokic. SGA has elevated himself to that level since last season, playing at a level Luka has never done.
All the modern metrics place SGA and Jokic a tier above every player in the NBA. Luka is on the Giannis and now Wemby tier.
Luka as brilliant as he is, is just more flawed. His shot selection, defense(jokic also has this one) and ocasional inconsistency(when compared with the other two) places him below. His floor is just not as good, even if his peak performance can match them.
Outside this recent stretch where luka has been amazing, he has been playing at a clearly worse level than both players and you can’t find a single metric that says the opposite.
And I’m not saying Luka can’t get there if he cleans up some stuff in his game. But he still hasn’t gotten there. And thats why SGA and Jokic are battling for MVPs for 3 straight seasons and Luka is no where to be seen in that discussion.
You said ATM, and Jokić this season hasn’t been really far away from Luka at all. Luka was in those discussions in 2023⁄2024, you really can’t say otherwise, that’s just erasing his 34/9/9 season from history. Luka is a better playmaker, is less efficient on offense and a bit worse deffender than SGA, they’re not that far off each other (I do think SGA has been better and deserves the MVP so far)
Jokic has been better than Luka by any metric you find. He has been closer to SGA than Luka is to Jokic this season
Luka’s 23⁄24 wasnt even good enough for 2nd in the mvp voting, he wasnt as good as Jokic at all.
And SGA is not a bit better defensively, he is very clearly much better defensively. SGA isnt elite but he is very good and is a very clear plus. Luka ranges from terrible to average depending on the game.
The only thing Luka has over SGA is his playmaking. SGA is currently on another level as a scorer, defender and he barely turns over the ball, which is one of Luka’s issues. Also, SGA is a much improved playmaker and 3pt shooter, which were his weaker points. He just is a total package at the moment, nearly flawless player who is uber consistent and rarely makes mistakes despite having the ball a ton. Also a key thing to notice is that SGA is producing just as much as Luka, while dominating the ball in a very significant way (30% less touches) not only he creates a ton of offense, he still allow the team to do their thing. Any Luka team lives and die by what he does, for the good or bad.
Again, Luka is an insane player and he has a clear path to reach the top. But he hasn’t performed at the same level as those two and there isnt a single metric that supports that notion
