The reaction to Bam’s 83-point game is a perfect example of how bad the NBA discourse is
Instead of celebrating that a non-superstar player just had the greatest night of his life and scored the 2nd most points ever in an NBA game, I’ve seen so much stupid debate online about the free throws and Spo’s “stat-padding” antics, Kobe fans trying to argue that his 81-point game is “better”, and even the reactions from some people in the league (like Udoka) have been remarkably toxic.
I really wish Bam scored 83 points in an era without internet, and we could just celebrate the achievement itself instead of ruining the fun with meaningless arguments. I just think it would be better if we all choose to remember it simply as a pretty cool basketball thing that happened.
