16-1 over a 17 game stretch is impressive for sure though. And Wemby is obviously impressive. Just his stats during the stretch are not particularly more impressive.

In the four games since the road trip ended, he’s averaged 33.³⁄₁₁.³⁄₂ 1 stl and 3.8 blocks on 71% TS% with wins over the Pistons, Clippers, Rockets and Celtics in that time, which is why everyone’s buzzing about him right now. If he can maintain this through the end of the season (big-ish if but I’m dreaming it), then we can really start opening some conversations

I just love his game. People try to double team him, he finds the pass now. You get a small dude on him, he will fry you in the paint. Clog the paint and he will just shoot. ⁸⁄₁₅ from 3 last night.

He has a combination of gifts and skills that basically no other basketball player has had before (except maybe Wilt and Shaq, but beyond that it’s emphatically no one else). He could easily leverage that into playing like a one-man army, but he doesn’t. He still plays team ball and get his team involved. He knows he doesn’t have to be the #1 option every game. This makes his team better and himself a more well-rounded.

The Spurs is such a perfect organization for Wemby to be in because it lines up so well with how Wemby sees the game and they have right mentors for unlocking his ceiling.

This year, yes. Next year? Doubt it. Not even being hyperbolic, his trajectory right now is goat.

That said, I’m far more impressed by elite guard play than someone who has unicorn physical attributes. Wemby is a joy to watch and seems like he has all the desire and work ethic to reach his potential.

I hate that the Spurs will likely be the thing that stops an OKC dynasty, and Wemby is the primary reason. Still, we’re looking at the future (and maybe even the present) face of the sport.
