It’s just not normally his job in the heat system since they have too many scorers and not enough bigs grabbing rebounds. One of the biggest reasons Bam’s stepped it up this year is because their leading scorers have either left (Jimmy) or been injured (Herro).

I think it’s not limited to Bam. Most players have an under-utilized bag because the league is so optimized these days. We call guys who make 30% from the arc non-shooters, and it doesn’t stop at who’s got the green light outside. No surprise some guys never get their ego in check.

Some stars have some defensive chops, but end up being traffic cones because they expend so much energy on offense.

Bam is the exact opposite, he’s so active on defense every single play that it’s difficult for him to be as aggressive on offense consistently without getting gassed.

He’s been more aggressive lately though, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he’s been playing many more minutes alongside Ware (making Bam not have to be the primary rim defender/rebounder every play) + we’ve also been running some more zone defense, which takes less energy than a switch heavy man to man scheme.

Inefficient and not consistent

Like most ex-players say, NBA players that stick around are either superstars or find a role. Bam is a star role player in the Heat playing within the system. So the outstanding question is whether Spo is ready to use Bam similar to how Wemby is being used in the San Antonio system.

He’s not able to shoot efficiently enough for a coach to reasonably say he should? Just a former player / crack hesd and a one game sample size where his own team was fouling to get him the ball back in a blowout.

I think we need to relax and understand it was a crazy hot game. We shouldn’t just generally throw out everything that we know about Bam as a scorer.

His first 65-70 points were pretty legit even with all the fouls. It just got a bit messy towards the end though, purposely fouling to get the ball back but you gotta do what you gotta do to beat Kobe’s record.

I was going to say it was because they have better scorers on the team… but realised that made no sense because he just dropped an 83 burger. The better answer is because he’s an elite defender and it would be too exhausting to have to handle both ends of the floor.

In addition to what’s been said… Washington really is just that bad defensively. One of the worst ever.

There’s been so many times in the past where Bam would straight up refuse to look at the basket. It drove Heat fans (myself included) insane. He’d always want to set up teammates first before trying to score.

Knowing that, to see what he did last night was mind boggling. Like he was possessed

Bam is Tatum’s size; it’s not a massive shock that he can somewhat put the moves on Sarr and has somewhat of a bag.

I mean he was ⁷⁄₂₂ from 3 and got 43 FT attempts, i saw some individual nice plays but let’s calm down a bit. It was also against the Wizards.

And some of the calls might’ve been weak, but overall the Wizards were assaulting him on and off ball. They did everything they could to stop him and it felt pretty clear they’d rather him get his points at the line than shooting. By the end they were triple teaming him in the backcourt.

You don’t understand how good Beasley is 1-on-1. He might be one of the best 1-on-1 players of all time. He just wasn’t good as a cog in an offensive system. But he has a BAG.
