It might stop here for both. Scoring 30+ consistently is incredibly difficult. Let alone improving at this rate PAST 30 ppg. I mean, they gotta stop somewhere lol, not gonna be averaging 40 in 5 years. Wouldn’t be too surprised if Ant capped out around 31 or so next year, Maxey was above 30 for a bit of the season but you see he couldn’t sustain it, now he’s below 29.

Definitely. ANT shoots the ball well, plus he’ll get free throws because he’s so physical in the paint. Only thing he has to do is start hitting his free throws at a better clip. He’s been averaged around 80% from the line his whole career. If he can bump up his percentage, that’s at least 4-5 more points, maybe even more.

Going from 80% to 90% (which would already be top tier elite in NBA) only gets you like 1 more PPG even if youre taking 10 FTA per game (Ant currently taking 7).

we literally weren’t allowed to pay NAW what you were with the CBA or we likely would have retained him.

Out only path would have been letting Naz or Randle walk and that would have been worse than letting NAW go unfortunately.

Dilly draft was bad and he was (intended to be) a Mike successor, not a NAW replacement, but the recovery was great. can’t go back in time but you can still fix the mistakes.

Dilly was a bad pick, and I agree with you I don’t think he’s great at drafting and pretty much solely rides his “ability to draft” on the best steal in NBA history… which says something, but his overall record of drafting is not great. ANT could easily be averaging 30+ if he didn’t get injured in the Wolves home opener. He played 3 minutes (5 points) and it dropped his ppg drastically. But I definitely think that ANT could eclipse the 30+ ppg next season.

I feel like this kinda just happens though. It’s something almost all top scorers deal with considering the massive delta between 30+ and a sub 15point night.

For example, the league’s leading scorer has left 2 games hurt this season and without them he’s at 33.4 instead of 32.5. In 2023 Luka would’ve been scoring champ if he didn’t leave 2 games in the first half beating Joel 33.2 to 33.1… except Joel also went out in the first half and would’ve otherwise averaged 33.4ppg. It’s kinda a universal thing and guys who don’t have that are more of the outliers than those who do, especially in the modern game with medical staffs not letting players play through injuries as often in the regular season.

I know Blake Griffin didn’t exceed his rookie year scoring totals until his second season in Detroit. Idk if they had consecutive descending years like Sidney Wicks.

Tyrese Evans was pretty close to almost doing it. His second to last season before he got suspended he was at 19 per game in Memphis. But his highest scoring season of his career was his rookie year.

Same for Spencer Haywood. Scored 30 a game his rookie year and 29.5 his second year and didn’t really get back to that. They didn’t descend every year like Sidney Wicks though.

Coincidentally both players are from the 2020 draft class.

Deni Avdija from the 2020 draft class, but he went below 25 PPG (24.3 PPG) since the back injury, he also improved his PPG in every season of his career.

Deni also improved his PPG, FGM, FGA, rebounds, assists in each of his first 5 seasons, and if Deni gets above 7.3 RPG by the end of the season, then I think he will be the only player in NBA’s history to improve his PPG, FGM, FGA, Rebounds, and assists in each of his first 6 seasons (and to be honest, I don’t think there is a player who did it in each of first 5 seasons as well)

Maybe I’m a casual but I feel like he came out of nowhere. Last year I think you could write it off as putting up good stats on a bad team, but with his improvement this year he’s clearly going somewhere. I’ll be interested to see how he does with a good team at some point.
