If you want “city” there’s 3 major cities around Denver (Denver, Aurora, Lakewood) that most people in Colorado live (maybe 1.5-2 mill total). Colorado Springs is like the only other fairly large city (~500k people). Ft Collins is like a college town around CSU (~200k people) and Boulder is built around CU (~100k people). Every other city is in the ~100k or less range.

Outside of that it’s mountain towns, farmland, and desert. Once you’re about 1-1.5 hours outside Denver, you can get quite a lot of land for fairly cheap unless it’s in the mountains and then it’s insanely expensive. The climate is unusual because west is mountains and mountain life, around Denver it never rains (desert), and east is like Kansas farmland. So, there’s a variety of lifestyles you can have based around where you live.

I wouldn’t recommend living in Denver because of the cost, and traffic getting there is generally not too bad outside of a couple of hours around quitting time at end of the day. Most people live somewhere in the circle around the major highways that connect the 3 big areas (Denver, Aurora, and Lakewood).

Ranch land is cheaper in Colorado? Very unlikely. He lives in Cherry Hills. Colorado is one of the best states to be rich in.

Denver proper? Not sure. But east of Denver is mostly farmland with lots of horses I’m sure.

He lives in Cherry Hills, which some properties do have horse barns/fields. I’m not sure if his place has them but it’d be easy enough to probably rent from one of the people who do.

It’s in the southern part of the city but still very much in the city.

No joke, arguably the world’s best horse veterinary program is in Fort Collins at Colorado State University, an hour north of Denver (if I-25 isn’t a shitshow).
