I’ll always maintain that the NBA are the ones who messed up here and that they shouldn’t have allowed the trade to go through. It’s unclear if Charlotte knew about the federal investigation (despite rumors/speculation), but even if Charlotte knew, the NBA would as well. And they need to be the ones to strike down trades like this.

The thing that makes the most sense is to give the Heat the 31st pick. But my guess is that the NBA doesn’t want to imply any wrongdoing, so they aren’t going to do that or reverse the trade. The Heat are angry about this, and the Hornets probably all want this to be over (since it was a move made with our previous FO anyway). I think the SRP is essentially a settlement so that the Heat get something, the Hornets and Heat improve their working relationship, and the NBA doesn’t look guilty

In this year’s draft there will be some talented senior players in the 2nd round due to how deep this draft is. These senior players are a better fit for Miami system anyways.

If the NBA is admitting that Charlotte wasn’t open enough during a trade, than this is an incredibly small punishment. Teams in the future won’t be scared to replicate what Charlotte did given the chance because they know they won’t be properly punished.

Instead of just moving on like any other normal team, Pat Riley needs to cry and complain until he finally gets his way. The Hornets didn’t even know he was being investigated to begin with!

I’m not following this at all so I don’t know all the ins and outs of what’s going on but why does Charlotte have to send Miami a 2nd rd pick? What’s the logic here? The extent of my knowledge between these two teams is that Charlotte traded Rozier to Miami and a year later Rozier was put on indefinite leave.
