The ball probably looked like it was moving in slow motion to him, so he could have grabbed it, but instead opted to say “fuck you” with that spike. I support it.
Considering his arms were low and he was slightly turned away from him my guess is his read was more to be sure to block the hell out of the ball than the more careful blocks he does. So he needed speed more than anything.
I’m not sure if he’s ever done it but I am just waiting for him to block the shit out of a ball back into the player’s face.
