[Highlight] Luka Doncic turns the ball over and then tries to take the charge, which did not work. He signals the refs what he thinks
LOL this is a funny ass sequence
I feel like that was an actual charge too lmao, Luka was planted
considering How little contact it takes for Brunson to dive to the ground and get a charge, yea this should have been a charge.
It was a charge, ref might just have been shocked that Luka was trying on defense
To be fair, I would also be shocked by that.
You guys should watch some games sometime, Luka had 4 steals in a recent game. Maybe develop your own takes
Luka has drawn 11 charges this season. He worked at this and is pretty good at it. Smart, the team leader has 13.
but but but Luka is fat and lazy and doesn’t play defense!
That’s why he’s the best at taking charges - he basically covers the entire restricted area and doesn’t have to move.
he’s so fat that his gravity is inevitably attracting the offensive player into him
Well. Luka needs to be someone’s scapegoat.
It’s not that he doesn’t ever play defense or incapable of playing good defense. Most people don’t like that when he’s complaining to the ref and not getting back, he makes his team play a man down on defense.
It’s super obvious and easier to spot than a missed defensive rotation or bad switching on a pnr, so the average untrained watcher is more capable of pointing it out
What you are not trusting the unbiased and highly analytical ESPN teams led by Perkins and SAS? You are to tell me these stellar knights lf detailled analysis, these number crunchers, these human calculators can be wrong? But they talk so loud… so them must be correct, right? Screaming has always been a sign of somebody truly knowing what they are talking about 😂
Nah. They don’t watch games. They would prefer regurgitating the same comments.
You might want to try focusing on Luka’s defense when watching said games as getting 4 steals in a game is not really the flex you think it is. Luka gets caught flat-footed as defense way too often and routinely lets his defender get by him because he’s trying to poke the ball out for a steal instead of maintaining body position as a defender. That and he gives up too many 5 on 4’s because he often doesn’t get back on defense after a missed shot.
Wrong. Sorry lil bro
Steals aren’t necessarily an indicator of trying on defense. Steph had steals all the time and he was such a negative on defense it would’ve undone his scoring if not for Klay and Dray holding it down
Most likely, I think the ref’s view was obstructed by Hart. Definitely a charge though and a great hustle play from Luka after an unforced turnover.
Not gonna get that call when your team is winning by double digits, that’s how the NBA is officiated right now. Also swallowing the whistle in first quarters for w/e reason
I could see them not calling it by how late he established position. It’s pretty close to OG starting his shooting motion
This is my thought too. He was definitely stationary long enough for that to be a charge. Luka is ridiculous with his foul baiting and shit defense, but there are legit moments if effort that get lost like this.
His fuckup on the turnover, but actually got his ass back and into position. Refs missed the call.
I think they didn’t call it for the same reason they didn’t call it when Brunson tried to take a charge from Shai last week. Technically you have to give the pass receiver “enough room” to slow down or reasonably avoid you when taking a charge off a person receiving the ball. What counts as enough room? Well it seems to be completely fucking subjective to me but idk
It’s generally the “1 step” rule. If you are close enough to the player where if they were to take 1 step, they’d be going through your body, then that is not enough room. You have to give the player enough room to go around you, so the 1-step rule generally seems to try and make a hard boundary for what “enough room” means.
Luka tried this like 3-4 times in the game and this was the one no call where he was firmly set lmao he took one charge where he was still moving backwards and his one foot was still in the air and moving, and two were called defensive fouls.
Yoooooo
Is he planted if he takes steps back after being hit? Don’t you have to completely plant and take the change? He moved his feet multiple steps after being hit. I don’t watch basketball
Pretty close but OG is already lifting his knee to hop off his other foot. You cant just go to a spot that a player is already inevitably going to go through because they are mid-stride or mid-jump, gotta be there beforehand
That seemed like a very obvious charge..
I’m certified Luka hater and agree, perfectly played by Doncic. Easy call missed
That said, dude pretending like there’s a conspiracy against him is so laughable. Gets the best whistle in the league
That’s SGA. Luka is nowhere near best whistle
Why is nba discourse so polarized, idiots think luka has the best whistle in the league, and other idiots think he gets no calls when in reality its neither. People who soley go by ft numbers to say his whistle is the best are idiots, and people who only watch missed calls and assume his whistle is the worst in the league are also idiots
Are there really people out there that think Luka has a good whistle? I’m a huge fan of him, not so much of him bitching but he gets mugged with no calls constantly.
I think his signal there was less about conspiracy against him and more about the refs or associates having money on the game
Just scroll up to several comments saying exactly that. It’s clear they don’t actually watch games
Yeah, I think anybody who thinks he gets a good whistle is crazy. The caveat to that statement is I personally believe that a lot of Luka’s antics towards the refs cause his whistle to be poor, so it’s not as inexplicable as say Steph.
I genuinely think the Lakers need to have Luka ref some HS summer league and see how he enjoys the players that whine the most. Maybe then he’d realize he’s only hurting himself long-term.
cuz they just look at free throw numbers and call it a day. the same people will argue SGA only has a normal whistle or slightly-better-than-average
Most of r/nba dont even watch the games. They watch highlights and read box scores.
Because idiots dont understand nuance, idiots see either good or bad, true or false, one way or the opposite. And 90+% of nba fans are idiots
Because the refs are bad, They do not call calls that should be call, And call calls that should not be call.
I too pray on his downfall, but not even I can deny that that was a clear foul
He was set in-time? The offensive player was already in his upward motion when Luka set himself into a legal position, no?
God, I hate the block/charge call so much
They don’t even always need to be set. There are charge fouls when the defense is moving
Yeah, for sure. That’s why I included “legal guarding position” and you can be slightly moving as long as you’re “set” enough in that spot. But it looks like Luka gets into that ‘charge’ stance after Diawara had already gone into his upward motion. But, I’ve seen this called both ways, even after the refs review it. They don’t know what they’re doing, it’s way too subjective
Gets the best whistle in the league? Did Shai retire?
Luka gets like 30% of the whistle he should be getting. There’s a reason he complains a lot coz he gets fouled so much. If everything is called correctly he’ll be chucking 30+ ft a game.
lol no he doesn’t
Incorrect
Eh I think the money symbol is a pretty standard heat-of-the-moment response to bad reffing in Europe. I doubt Luka actually thinks there’s a conspiracy
perfectly played by Doncic. Easy call missed
It’s actually the correct call. Getting a charge is more than just “his feet are set”.
Per the rulebook:
When a player receives the ball outside the lower defensive box…
This is true in this case. The offensive player receives the ball at the freethrow line.
…the defensive player must allow the offensive player the space to stop and/or change directions
The play happens pretty quick but basically the offensive player gets the ball at the freethrow line. Takes a step and at this point Luka is not set. You have to be set in legal guarding position and allow the offensive player space to to avoid the contact, which Luka doesn’t do. It helps if you look at the foul frame by frame. The offensive player was going full speed and didn’t have enough space to avoid the contact.
Another part is that the defender has to be set the offensive player “starts his upward shooting motion” and and for a drive, the gather counts as part of the shooting motion. The offensive player catches it and immediately starts bringing it up and Luka isn’t set while he’s bringing the ball up into his shot so that also makes it not a charge.
I mean, “allow the offensive player space to avoid contact” is subjective and sometimes they get it wrong but in this case it seems pretty clear.
It was and he literally got the same charge later in the game
Seriously. Man was a statue
Yea they missed that
The reffing on the charge was very inconsistent that game, they called offensive foul when Marcus Smart was still kinda backpedaling as he got hit, then later on in the game Smart was already fully set up as he got charged and they called that defensive foul (which JJ challenged and they won that challenge). I think Luka is also fully setup here so should have been a charge
Hmmm…. wonder why they didn’t call it…
Go watch giannis on literally any play. All he fucking does is charge
Luka complains a lot but this is a charge
Ironically he’d probably get more calls like this if he wasn’t constantly complaining about every other time he doesn’t get a call
Refs have to subconsciously hate him because of all the bitching
refs dont seem to hate OKC or Draymond Green. Green literally goes into a ref’s face and yells at them and almost never gets a tech.
Who bitches like draymond or Luka on OKC?
Which is why I don’t understand why they don’t just give him more (thoroughly deserved) techs. They could solve the problem.
Probably half of Lakers nowadays and like 5% of the opposing team came to watch Luka, for whatever reason. Taking his games away means NBA is giving up free money. So yeah, that is the last thing they want to do.
That’s true, that’s probably what they’re thinking. But it’s shortsighted - the players will adjust after getting tossed 2 or 3 games in a row.
Unfortunately with him being a superstar, refs are reluctant to call techs on him.
He has the most techs in the league tho…
i mean they’re holding back, plenty of players deserve more techs
He’d have even more if he didn’t have the tech whistle of a super star.
if a role player tried to pull this shit they’d be T’d up literally every game
I’ve never understood superstar whistles. What are they gonna do if they get normal whistles, move to Europe? I think the NBA wants new flashy records to be broken every week, which is stupid and shortsighted
Half the Lakers games are national TV games. I think ESPN and NBC would take offence to getting inferior games after they shell out 10s of billions for said rights.
He leads the league in techs over the last 6 years🤣😅
He’s already one tech away from a suspension. That hurts league revenue when he isnt playing. So ironically, him doing the money sign is more of an indicator on why he gets preferential treatment than why he doesn’t get all the calls he wants.
Think lukas problem is he is always getting fouled but if the refs always called it a foul, it’d be unwatchable
Reputations earned.. reputations given
Seems like it worked, they just didn’t call it lol
Of all of the Luka cries posts, this one doesn’t work. That was a charge
This sub is hilarious and the Luka circlejerk is hilarious. Dude had 35/8/4 to beat the 3 seed Knicks, hit a crazy falling out of bounds buzzer beater in OG’s face, hit a logo dagger to ice the game, and this is the highest engaged highlight from the game by far
Clear offensive foul.
What makes it worse is when refs just completely swallow the whistle on plays like this. It has to be called a block or a charge, is far too much contact for it to be nothing at all.
The money gesture was heart felt
Rudy got suspended for this same thing.
Luka was a bit more lowkey about it, he did the equivalent of 2 pumps
McCringleberry approved
This was the first thing that came to my mind. lol
Clearly Luke is just emulating what he’d like done to him in the bedroom. rubs nipples
No he didn’t. He’s been fined multiple times for it.
More of this Luka please. This is how you win a title
He had 35 / 8 / 4 and they’re gonna win but that shit doesn’t matter on this sub
He also made a good defensive play here to take the charge the refs decided not to call lmao
It’s literally what coaches preach growing up. You make up your mistake when you turn it over
The hate circlejerk is sad to see, dude hit an out of bounds fading buzzer beater three in OG’s face and iced the game with a logo dagger and the highlights can’t even break 700 upvotes meanwhile the front page is stuffed to the brim with 20 different angles of Tatum walking onto the court or a clip of every time Wemby touches the ball
Its either you call a charge or a blocking,
There is no way that’s a no call.
Charge, block or flop. You really can’t whistle if someone goes to the floor like that. Refs are awfull
I mean the refs have been calling every tiny bit of contact for the Knicks but letting this happen uncalled. But yeah Lakers blah blah, Luka blah blah from too many default usernames with no flair.
Is this the same specific rule of a player receiving a pass before entering the lower box that was the reason Brunson didn’t get the charge on SGA the other day?
Looks like that to me
Literally 1:1 the exact same scenario.
this one might be more egregious tho. imo he had time to move. soooo much time to NOT run into luka
He was full speed sprinting, only way you change your momentum is by moving to his side, which he can’t do off of one step.
people here got that brainrotted goldfish memory
Luka is the first and only NBA player with an emoji: 🤷🏼♂️
Block/charge is hard, but this is one of the most obvious ones you’ll see.
That was a charge
I agree.
Definitely but can’t be doing that sign anymore once you play for the Lakers lol
For once, his bitching is earned. Obvious charge.
Luka is a flopper, but that was a charge. Hate the lakers, bad no-call.
sorry he’s the funniest. This sub is prob upset Luka had a good game lol
Iunno, based on the OKC no call definition, Luka didn’t give Diawara time to react 🤷♂️
He did the $ sign symbol here and there in Dallas which makes some sense (see 2006 finals) but now in LA he needs to not pull that out anymore lmao
Got lucky he didn’t get a tech.
I assume he will be fined the same amount as Rudy Gobert for doing the same thing.
It was a charge tho.
Cause it was an offensive foul. There’s 3 refs and can’t see a damn thing. Maybe league needs to start having refs on all sides of the court.
even without the benefit of replay, that contact shouldve warranted a blocking foul or a charge, not a non-call
That’s a charge.
That was a charge.
Luka you need a big head and braids
Best defensive play by Luka I’ve seen yet.
Adam Silver’s nba is a beautiful train wreck
Isn’t this again the same thing that we had last week? Where player receives a pass and defending player must give an opportunity to avoid contact?
yup last time it was us knicks fans complaining
It’s such a dumb rule. It basically means no charge as long as you are receiving a pass. When in fact, the defender is the first to get to the spot. It should be the responsibility of the receiver to avoid the charge, not the defender. We already have too much rules favoring the offense.
All those people last week saying that SGA only got that non-charge on Brunson because of bias are about to look crazy. Literally the exact same situation and they did the exact same non-call, and its DIAWARA vs Lakers Luka, like you can’t get more non-biased than that.
Watching Luka plant his feet and putting his hands down was funny looking the way it happened to quickly
If thats not a charge idk what is
Luka’s absolutely in the right here. However, it’s still funny seeing a guy with a great whistle on a team with a great whistle doing that. Complete lack of self awareness, which is par for the course with Luka.
Dude plays defense one time and still doesn’t get the call.
Luka and AR had the knicks in a blender all game
This why people have to stop expecting him to play defense
Normally I’d say Luka whines too much, but that definitely looked like an obvious charge. Got there in time, planted, and outside the restricted area. Dunno how you miss that one, but then again, it’s the NBA refs 🤣🧑🦯🧑🦯
That’s definitely a charge.
I love rooting against Luka these days…. But that probably was a charge
I’d be pissed if I took a nutsack to the face even if I got the whistle. But that was a bad no-call, right?
That bribery hand signal
The new league simply does not want defense. The NBA is done
You’re on the Lakers of all teams, why you’re showing $ signs, lol?
Luka literally became an ironing board 💀💀💀💀 I’m not calling that either lmao
Totally a charge, but Luka is the boy who cried wolf too many times…
The best part of this clip is the broadcast showing the free throw totals (Lakers +10) 5 seconds prior to this contact and Luka doing the money sign.
Well that’s an auto fine. I guess much better than a tech at this point.
Game of snipers keep sniping players
Luka is always complaining over silly stuff. This one is legit. Maybe if he didn’t complain after a no call he’d get the next one.
Banger play Luka
“Donnsshtishh” - Doris Burke
Now show the other one where he did take a charge
Easily a charge
Dude you play for the lakers now… that money sign doesn’t make sense anymore
That’s why he’s trying out other LA signs like leaving his fiancée of 10 years after she just had a baby to bone an influencer.
The boy who cried charge.
Yeah this is a crazy no call
This is like the story of the “Boy Who Cried Wolf”.
The refs would probably let Lu Dort brain Luka with a hammer during transition and not call the foul because they’re so used to ignoring him.
Luka complaining, water is wet, news at 11
So the money sign should get the same penalty Gobert received last year correct?
Refs fucking suck at calling charges. They seemingly just default to blocking fouls and force the coach to use a challenge to turn it over so the refs can get away with more wrong bs
I think a lot of you are missing that while yes, it was a charge and an incorrect no call, wrong calls don’t mean games are rigged or refs are paid off. It’s not a conspiracy every time something doesn’t go your way.
That’s a block if anything
Wasn’t Rudy fined for $100k for this
Here’s what I don’t get about him and mny mny more players these days. When they cry and jaw at the ref about every single foul do they think the ref will change the call? I mean it cracks me up. Crying and begging refs to overturn the call. Do they think bc they tell refs it’s a foul that the ref will change the call bc Doncic thinks it’s a foul? Doesn’t make any sense. I mean Doncic will scored and still be obsessed about the no call. I mean in my day in pick up ball if u called a foul u were a pussy and preyed upon. And if u flopped u were weak. Now it’s like a prideful thing. I mean Doncic every single time he has the ball it’s a foul in his mind. Way too good of an offensive player to do that. Notice I said “offensive player”.
It’s wild to me what nba refs put up with
Signals like Johnny Manziel
He’s right. The nba is equivalent to the wwe. You’re simply uninformed if you believe it isn’t rigged, lol.
Luka was definitely planted .
bad call but dude, you literally lead the nba in FTs by margin
So you thought you could just stand there in front of the basket while someone with the ball is trying to go there and he wouldn’t hit you like somehow he just wouldn’t run in to you like he would just go right through you and not even touch you, sir can’t stand that fucking man
What are you on about? Of course he thought he was going to get run into, that’s the whole point.
dammit I was semi-hoping it wasn’t even close to being one but it honestly was .. Boy who cried wolf
But dude had already started gathering when Luka was trying to get into a stand still position. How is that a charge?
Luka is a whiny bitch but that’s for sure a charge
I’m surprised he hustled back on defense. He usually turns it over and stops playing to complain to the refs.
What is funny in him always complaining about the refs and making the money sign is that he played for Real Madrid and currently plays for Lakers, 2 organisations known for massive referees / officials help in their respective sports
Fuck me dead it’s like this fairy never heard about the boy that cried wolf… spoiler, he fuckn died from being a whiney little bitch.
Even if he has a legit call no ref in their right mind wants to give him the satisfaction
Honestly he did that right, that should a been called
what happen when boy calls wolf
Luka is the nba’s Cristiano
Almost every video of this dude is him complaining about something FFS
I don’t like the guy and still think that he was right, this was a charge.
pretty sure he got called a blocking foul on one of these earlier in the game as well, looked like a charge but i could be wrong
I love defense and I love when it gest rewarded. This was an awful no call
wow skinny Luka sure do be looking like big Luka
He’s a known flopper. Makes it more likely to miss the call.
It’s a charge by nba rules but I’m glad it wasn’t called. I hate that stopping in front of someone you can’t beat. It’s not a basketball play to me.
It was an offensive foul but you know what, if all you do is cry wolf then theres gonna be times when you dont get the help that you ask for.
Oh so we are not playing by the rules? Great sport.
I love him. It’s cool to be a luka hater. but anyone who calls out these dog shit refs is cool in my book. he can complain all he wants. idgaf
Anyone familiar with the story of the little boy who cried wolf?
(Def a charge tho)
Whiniest baby actually has a good reason to whine.
I love that he does the money taunt, bro is one of us!
Guy is such a fucking clown
