[Highlight] Tatum hits the dagger 3 to put the Celtics up 12 with 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter
Once he gets his conditioning back, he’ll be scary.
I mean yeah he’s Jayson Tatum, a top10 player in the league.
All-NBA 1st teamer 4 years in a row, better add 5 more just in case
And people still try to argue he isn’t even top five.
[deleted]
Wemby has yet to win a playoff series and get out the west. Let’s see how things play out first .
Impact wise I get Wemby is built different but Tatum has been doing this for over half a decade
Wemby hasn’t done diddly-poo yet. Great season, but still only this one season where we can pass fair judgement on him.
Shai, Jokic, Giannis, Luka, Wemby. Who is Tatum better than out of those 5?
Luka
Lol no
Wemby and Luka. Tatum can guard all 5 positions, facilitate the offense, iso, and grab boards.
Wemby is a freak, but he hasn’t proved anything yet.
Luka is bitchmade and drags the rest of his team down when he isn’t getting calls or shooting the lights out. Tatum is still a problem when his shot isn’t falling.
Luka is one of the best playmakers in the league. If his shot isn’t falling he’s very much still effective.
Teams play the Lakers on a power play he does not play defense
Easily Luka, better than Wemby (Wemby is good and probably will peak higher, but he still quite a few flaws), and maybe Giannis.
If he’s easily better than Luka why doesn’t a single advanced stat ever agree with that? Luka’s also been better in the playoffs.
Several advanced stats agree with that, including the most accurate predictive one.
We clearly value different things for basketball. Luka’s defense is objectively terrible and Tatum is a very good defender. Tatum also has a much more positive impact on “teammate’s morale,” and there’s no metric for that. But when you listen to former teammates who played with both, they all say Tatum has a greater impact on winning. And for me, impact on winning is the only thing that actually matters
Advanced stats say half the league is better than Jaylen Brown and DWhite is a top 5 player.
Better than SGA if you remove foul baiting.
There’s nothing he definitively does better than Shai. Defense is debatable, but offensively Shai’s leagues above Tatum.
For real, you think so? His defense is leagues above SGAs because he can guard every spot at an elite level. Is SGA doing that?
His ability to find the open man when he constantly has 2 people on him for open shots/easy layups.
Again, if you take out the FT disparity, because SGA is a foul baiter, their offensive output is equal.
SGA is top 5 but imo I’d rather have a fully healthy Tatum than SGA, who lives on baiting foul calls.
Do you watch Shai outside of the narrative driven clips? His handles are amazing, his footwork is excellent, and he has the best middy since prime KD. He’s one of the best scorers ever. It doesn’t matter if he foul baits (he does it a lot less than this sub would make you think anyways), a lot of the best scorers got a lot of free throws. Shai is a top two player in the world at minimum and honestly has been the best in the league this year. Tatum has never had a real claim at top 3 even. I also think he’s a better perimeter defender than Tatum.
Ethical hoops > Foul Baiting
Shai is not a better Defender, facilitator, or rebounder than Tatum, and their scoring is relatively similar. Hope this helps.
Shai averages 7.3 FTA over his 8 years in the league (including one bad year in LA, he averages 8.2 in OKC)
Tatum averages 5.5 FTA in his 9 years.
Shai averages 4.7 TRB
Tatum averages 7.3 TRB
Shai averages 3.8 3PA at .358 3P%
Tatum averages 7.1 3PA at .370%
This is regular season stuff too, you don’t even want to compare playoff stats because Tatum has been to way more playoff games (8 years of playoffs to shais 4), and has been instrumental in all of them. He’s been to 2 finals, and a plethora of ECFs, winning the ECF finals MVP one year.
All this and he’s a SF/PF, not a point guard like SGA… But guess what, he still plays point too! All while seeing nothing less than a double team every night.
All in all you want a guy like Tatum over Shai in games where it matters, because he can do everything at an elite level, and doesn’t need to rely on foul baiting the refs to have an impact.
I would put him over Luka – healthy JT provides 90% of Luka’s offense while being a much more complete player whose defensive versatility can unlock an entire defensive system.
Top fye
Top fye what?
Just top fye
Nods in Javonte Green
He’s the best American player imo
lol the circle jerk has gone too far.
Huh?
You realize all the other top guys are foreign, right? Tatum’s competition for “Best American” is Ant and basically no one else.
Hey ain’t even the best player in his team in the playoffs.
top 10? more like top fye
He’s talking about scary scary, like wolf-man and ghouls
Tatum came back great. Dame won the three point contest. Tyrese what have you done for me lately baby?
Hali tore his later than the rest (about a month and a half later than Tatum).
He’ll probably be doing regular 5v5 around the time the playoffs end, if not a bit sooner, and will have the full summer to ramp up.
People forget how much a core injury messes with your rhythm. As long as he doesn’t rush the ramp-up, Indy should be dangerous next season. Tough to watch right now though.
I actually enjoy watching the Pacers more than most (I assume) because they’re still actively developing their guys and are running a roster that was just wrecked by injuries.
Hali hurt, Toppin hurt (they would have been more competitive this year if he didn’t get hurt the second week of the season), Turner traded, eventually BenniMath traded, Zubac hurt, Nesmith and TJ have had their fair share of small injuries… it’s just been one thing after another (some intentional, some not) for them this year and if they can show up healthy next season, they’re gonna be fucking nasty with another year of development for their bench guys and a top 5 pick.
I think us Wizards fans are also more accustomed to seeing bad hoops as well
It might be over next year with Trae and AD
Yea and he might have a new teammate who’s a 20 year old perennial all star
He’s helping the tank.
Pretended to still be hurt so the Pacers can get the best pick possible
He for sure still is hurt haha.
There’s literally no reason to rush Hali back. It actually hurts the Pacers and Hali. Getting that high pick is very important to them especially in a strong draft class
With all the shit the wizards, jazz, etc having been up to this year, we shouldn’t even be talking about the Pacers
he got shingles if that counts
Sounds like Pacers getting the Number 1 pick after sending Tyrese to the lottery.
He’ll bring karmic balance to the Pacers after he go injured in Game 7 of the finals
How many points are shingles worth? Asking for a friend.
Gonna be interesting to see how this team looks in the playoffs. On paper they are worse than last year but you never know
They on Paper are worse than the regular season 2024-25 Celtics. But I think they are better than the playoff 2024-25 Celtics. That team was so banged up. Jrue was dealing with his hammy, Porzingis’ mystery sickness was at its worst, brown had a partially torn MCL, and of course Tatum eventually tore his Achilles.
By the playoffs that team had just run out of steam.
And Sam Hauser missed a few games and was really banged up in the games he played.
People always forget about Hauser missing a few Games, His 3 would have been so big for us in game 1 and 2.
I get that point, but honestly we had no excuses for how poor our offense executed those first 2 games.
We had 5 out of 6 games that series against the Knicks where we held a 14+ point lead and blew it 3 times (game 6 was a blowout)
NY has out number, something wierd happend in the first 2 game, we really choked in the end, maybe it was low energy, we shall see. but for sure would prefer cavs in the second round, but it will probably be NYK
His back had been a nuisance most of the year
Additionally Tatum was dealing with a wrist injury he got in the first round
Tatum’s wrist has been hurt for like 4 years… I am hoping the achillis time healed him for good. He hurt it in one of the Miami series… I think right before we went to the finals for the first time
Yeah he’s been dealing with a wrist injury since before the 22 finals. I’m not sure if it was the same wrist he hurt last playoffs but either way 10 months off has gotta be helpful for that lingering injury
Same wrist but it was a bone bruise and I think he’s had ligament issues since 2022
To me this team has more discipline and grit which is something that usually translates to the playoffs more. Of course the previous team had more talent so they ran off b2b 60 win seasons but they definitely ran out of gas when JT tore his achilles
Yeah the championship team got super lucky with injuries (outside Porzingis but that’s a given), while it felt like all the wear and tear accumulated the year after. All the injuries you mentioned and you still forgot Tatum hurting his wrist because of KCP.
Jrue also had the finger issue going on.
And hamstring
Yeah getting Vuc healthy for the playoffs will be key.
Him and queta will be an improvement over Horford + KP frontcourt last year
KP averaged like 4 and 3 that series. Sucks he wasn’t able to give basically anything, but we also threw away game 1 and 2 sadly
Agreed, this is the thing people who weren’t watching them don’t realize. They were gassed. Tatum had been playing straight for nearly two years, because even if didn’t play a lot in the olympics, he was still traveling etc. And everyone knew he had a hand injury that was made worse in the playoffs. KP was cooked, and J Rue wasn’t being effective.
I think the current Celtics are better than last year’s playoff Celtics.
I mean if Garza can be a stretch big who hits 2-3 3s a game, and Baylor knocks them down from the corner and plays heavy d, and these guys aren’t minutes restricted, you’ve just replicated your success from the prior two years. And then you have Jordan Walsh or Huge to throw at the best guard like SGA while your key guys rest… it’s just a lot of options. Not to mention Queta or Vuch. All the dudes I named for the C’s were irrelevant last year.
The issue with last season coming into the playoffs was Brown’s mcl that was giving him problems. He looks much better this season. Horford looked pretty damn old last season so Queta is an upgrade this season. Holiday as well looked old and not the same at all compared to the championship season although still a good player. Porzingis illness by far was the biggest tank to the Celtics repeating because when he’s healthy Boston has always looked unstoppable but he was unplayable forcing Horford to have a bigger role which didn’t work out too well.
Now they have Schierman, Hugo, Walsh, young athletic wings full of energy and hustle making big plays. Pritchard has a bigger role, brown is a better player same with Queta.
If you asked me which team is better if healthy, it’s last season’s team no question, but they weren’t heading to the playoffs and these guys look better as an overall unit.
Legit if we played Luke like 5 more minutes in a game I think we win the series KP was blowing bunnies left and right
It’s so frustrating how obvious this was. We should have played Kornet way more.
KP was useless for them, they are atleast getting production back from Queta, Vuc, and Garza. Also their young wings look promising in Hugo, Walsh, and Baylor. Still wait to see how they look in the playoffs but they have a system that has proven to win a chip.
This team is way better than last year even with all the turnover
Low-key think this team is more versatile. KP was a net negative in the playoffs and Al showed his age, we didn’t play Luke enough. Queta does the big man things really well. Our wing depth is better too, but remains to see if we can rely on them in the playoffs. I trust our 3rd wing in these lineups more than I trusted our 2nd big if that makes sense.
It’ll be interesting though.
They’re not worse at all on paper. None of KP, Horford, or Jrue were anything close to the old All Star version of themselves. KP wasn’t even healthy last year, and Al and Jrue’s legs were both fading.
They’ve replaced that trio with a lot more depth, highlighted by the emergence of Queta as a bonafide starting NBA center.
Who they go up against is ultimately the threshold.
You cant tell me they cant beat the Pistons/ cavs/ knicks/ charlotte.
Celtics gonna be scary in the playoffs
Glad to see hump shot back in action (not a typo)
There’s gonna be a capital JT Jayson Tatum game soon and it’s gonna be awesome
If nobody’s front court wants to step up then I’m taking Boston in the east. You can’t expect to beat them with your guards when bostons front court is ass yet they continue to win. Give me Boston to advance
How’s his defense looking? Is that also recovering ok?
Looked pretty good honestly
This guy is so annoying. He just dropped 20 on the Cavs and then immediately went to his hotel and just beat me twice in 2k in the park. Just stop dude.
My man!
And this isn’t even his final formal. League should be afraid. XD
Pritchard was the MVP
Unreal
I love that celebration. so simple but cool
So sick of this team. Hope we start getting blown out every game so we can blow this roster up already. It’s insane how every game against good teams is the exact same. Weak players
I understand your frustration but you just got Harden and Ellis and have generally looked good since that trade. No JA this game and it can’t be said enough with how much he makes your team better.
The Cavs have talent but adding another guy with a long history of underproducing in the postseason in Harden is not exactly a comforting thought.
I think the Cavs are solid but I struggle to see them being good enough against good teams to go past the second round. Their first round won’t be a gimme but the second round will most likely be either Boston or Detroit.
Allen always gives hope right before the playoffs then falls apart when we need him so I don’t really hold out hope for him anymore. Especially since most of the time we have to sit him in the 4th
you’re overreacting. Boston is a top 5 team right now and you just acquired new players. No shame losing
Funny I got this same response last time against the Thunder when we did the exact same thing then before that also against the Thunder then before that when we blew 20 point lead against the Knicks then last year when we blew multiple leads against the pacers then before that against the Thunder again and the Celtics who we either lose to by 20 points or make a 20 point comeback.
Are you ok? Cavs are really good and were missing Allen today. They’ll be fine…
I’ve seen this comment too many times. Too many excuses same result
I am not a Cavs hater and don’t want to judge off of today or anything but yeah there’s somethings not right.
Haven’t you been awesome for a couple months now or is that Windhorst just bull shitting
Would you take some scraps and picks for Mitchell?
This is not a dagger shot
Holy crap have so many basketball terms on here lost meaning
it might be pedantic but this is more icing the game than a dagger since 12 points in 2 minutes is kinda impossible barring some major fuck ups. if it was ~40 seconds left and he put them up by 2 possessions with a clutch shot, or won the game at the buzzer then it’s a dagger, to me at least
For real. There’s 2 damn minutes left.
[removed]
So he even has good taste sexually
Better than bois and the ruling elite
Tru dat
Is this supposed to be an insult, even if it was true?
No
Stay mad Ella Mai doesn’t want you. Lmao.
Who
A British R&B singer who is also Jayson’s smokeshow partner and baby momma.
nothing wrong with that
I like men
Nice
These are the empty calorie shots everyone falls all over him for. He had just missed a contested 3. He was absolutely wide open here with very little stakes in the shot. If he makes it that’s great, if not no big deal, broken play, they’re already up 10, etc. He’s playing with house/found money. There’s no pressure with that shot.
Jesus sounds like that’s been building up for a long time hoping he actually had a bad second game. Check back he will have one soon enough.
I’m a hater and correct all at the same time. Have fun in May when he’s back to looking like a deer in the headlights and throwing grenades to D White and Co. at the end of the clock.
the man has the NBA record for points in a game 7. what are we doing here
Reads like you’re whining.
You just want to troll and argue. Cool stuff bud
I’m allowed to be a hater. It’s weird that any criticism on these guys and there’s instant downvotes and crying. And my point is valid. You just don’t like to hear it.
Tatum misses that shot and you are eagerly jumping on him for missing. Because he always misses the big shots. Or if he passed it up, you’d be all over that because he’s afraid to take the big shot.
He just came back from an achilles tear and you can’t find enough ways to trash him. Cool stuff bud.
edit: and you’re getting downvoted because you’re behaving like a 14 year old.
2024 must’ve been your 9⁄11
2008, actually.
The Cavs had all the momentum. JT’s shot closed the door in their face.
Also, he hasn’t played in 10 months…maybe take a month off before resuming your Tatum hatred.
Only Celtics fans can be like “This guy hit a dagger after we almost gave away an almost 30 point lead “ lol.
