[Spears] The Oklahoma City has reached its 50th win of the season. The Thunder now holds 10 50-win equivalent seasons since 2010, most in the NBA.
Shoutout cp3
Had 11 straight 50 win seasons including that “tanking” year in OKC.
The franchise can’t even legally drink yet
Presti being our GM for literally our entire franchise history has been a blessing. Dude is a genius and the franchise will absolutely get worse whenever he retires
If there was a franchise in any sport that could justify making a statue of their GM, I think it’s OKC
I’d bet money Miami puts up a Riley statue at some point.
Yeah I guess he would count for that too
give him a statue and put him in the rafters idk how they do it
Spurs for R.C. Buford
Only caveat is that R.C. Buford could walk right in front of me right now and I wouldn’t know it was him.
Approaching Theo Epstein levels of greatness
Meanwhile, we haven’t accomplished this in over 40 years 😕
Swiftly approaching 50… :(
Wins, right?
I think with a good draft pick and a healing potion to AD, the Wizards will be one of the better teams next season
.592 all-time winning percentage as the Thunder, 3rd best of all 30 teams
Certainly helps when you draft/trade for 3 MVP players
Winning team has winning players you say?
lol , yeah but the fact that there are 9 active former MVPs and nearly half of them got drafted by, or won it on the Thunder is crazy. I’m not even sure the Lakers or Celtics have done something like that
4
If the spurs get 4 more wins they’re two seasons behind the thunder.
Which is nuts considering we’ve been hot garbage for a long stretch going into the 2020s
Not so nuts considering yalls draft positions lately and landing basketball Jesus. Props to the front office for the Castle and Harper though. Great picks.
I hear you but I think that is much more of a testament to the dominance we displayed prior to the 2020s and I know that makes me captain obvious but still
Normal stuff for the franchise
OKC have 8 of these seasons, Warriors have 7
I don’t want to sound like that guy, but I’m surprised Boston doesn’t have ten in that stretch. I know we were bad for awhile in the early years of that time frame but still.
Without looking myself, I’d wager that there are at least a couple high-40s in the mix that would have put you over
Damn, was Presti the GM/exec on all of those 50-win teams?
Yup. He’s the only GM in team history
The Thunder have only ever had Presti at the helm.
Yep
Have** and hold**
This happens often when people refer to the Thunder or Heat. It’s kinda strange
And only one title to show for it:(
Shows just how crazy the west is Since 2010, the west is 10-6 in finals series vs the east The west has also had more contenders during that time. If we include contending teams that didn’t win a finals we get:
West: OKC, DEN, LAC, HOU, PHX, GSW, SAS, DAL, MIN. 9 teams with at least 2 conference finals apperances.
Could make additional arguments for LAC, MEM
East: BOS, MIA, MIL, IND, CLE, TOR. No other east team has made it past round 2 more than once since 2010.
Teams like BRK, PHI, and NYK have had contending seasons, but have also been deep in the lottery multiple years during this time.
is this a reminder they wont top the 73-9 nba record set by gsw?
Okay if anyone is carious here’s the rest do the teams.
Thunder (10) Celtics (9) Nuggets (9) Clippers (9) Spurs (8) Warriors (7) Cavaliers (7) Rockets (7) Grizzlies (6) Heat (5) Lakers (5) Raptors (5) Bucks (5) Mavericks (5) 76ers (5) Jazz (5) Trailblazers (4) Pacers (3) Suns (3) Bulls (3) Knicks (3) Hawks (2) Magic (2) Nets (1) Timberwolves (1) Wizards (0) Kings (0) Hornets/Pelicans (0) Pistons (0) Bobcats/Hornets (0)
Now this doesn’t include the rest of the teams that either will almost certainly finish with 50 wins or more this season or teams that have a chance to get to 50 wins this year. Those teams are that are over the .610% percentage this season but haven’t yet reached 50 Wins are the Pistons, Spurs, Celtics, Wolves, Rockets, and Knicks and teams that are hovering around that .610% winning percentage and have a chance to get there are Nuggets, Lakers and Cavaliers.
Both Celtics and Nuggets should tie the Nuggets for most 50 win seasons since 2010 by the end of the year.
Pacers could have had another season of 50 wins but the NBA canceled a game in 12-13 because of the Boston bombings and so the Pacers finished that year with a 49-32 record.
Wizards have the record for the longest 50 win season drought, last time they won 50 or more was in the 78-79 season when they went by the Bullets.
Unless I am blind they have only had 8 seasons that met this requirement.
the thunders being the best team in the league is a reflection on how bad nba is…
The 2020 team would’ve been a 50 win team too
Is this true? Wouldn’t it be the Clippers already?
7 seasons that are outright at or above 50 wins.
2011-2012 they won the equivalent of 49.7 games in an 82 game season, rounds to 50.
2019-2020 they won 49 in a 72 game season (56 win pace in 82).
2020-2021 they won 47 in a 72 game season (54 win pace in 82).
Does 49.7 equal or exceed 50 or is it less than 50?
Considering you can’t have a portion of a win, it would equal 50. If we’re doing shortened season win adjustments, you have to make the allowance for non-whole numbers, which requires rounding.
Anything at or over 49.5 wins is a 50-win equivalent season, by his own wording.
For record keeping purposes, that is not how these things are recorded. The minimum percentage necessary to be at or above a traditional 50+ win pace is ~0.6097.
Is that outlined somewhere? I’m curious if they actually put pen to paper on that as a league at some point once shortened seasons became a part of the history of the league (post ‘68 and the move to 82 games).
Insanely stacked team and the best front office in modern nba history. Feel like you could plug and play quite a few players at SGA’s position and have a good shot at winning the championship.
Settle down. Win at least three rings before hitting the “modern NBA history” button.
We won at least 50* from 1997 to 2017 with 5 chips and never make this ridiculous greatest front office ever claim.
(*Adjusted in 1998, 0.740 winning %)
What world do you live in lol? Lots of Spurs fans make the (completely warranted) best front office in modern nba history lmao. Nothing wrong with being proud of your franchise lol. But considering that in the 17 years this franchise has been around for, and in those years we (technically Presti drafted KD in Seattle but i’ll still count it) drafted 3 straight MVPs in Russ, KD and Harden, and a fourth in Shai. Not to mention a steal in JDub and a generational rim protector in Chet. Not to mention some insane undrafted/late 2nd round pick ups like Dort and Wiggins. And my glorious king Ajay Mitchell.
That being said, I agree. We need to win more before we make any more claims. Right now, to me, the Spurs are the best front office of the 2000s, then the Celtics (2008 into 2024). But we’re close behind, believe me.
Fuck the spurs
The Thunder as an organization are largely derivative of the Spurs.
Eh, 20 years ago they definitely were, but they’ve grown into their own unique thing in the 2020s
Shit 20 years ago we didn’t exist 😂😂
why?
He is obsessed with us lol
This guy is a Spurs/Wemby hater
Mans terrified of Wemby.
Yes.
Fitting username
Best franchise in the association
No
Celtics are better
Worst state in the country
texas, floriduh, west virginia, wyoming, and ohio are even worse.
West Virginia…MAYBE. TX, FL, and OH are leagues better than OK.
Wyoming is mostly nothing at all, and I’d rather have open space and nothing than whatever the fuck is going on in Valley Brook or at 61st Peoria.
oh, texas, floriduh, and ohio are most definitely worse. i would rather be in oklahoma than in any of those states.
every single state has their valley brooks and 61st & peorias.
Not Wyoming tho’. That was the point in mentioning those places. I’ll take nothing at all over that in particular.
Lmfao if you think Texas is better then Oklahoma you’re smoking more fent then the average San Franciscan
I grew up all over Texas and Oklahoma. There is virtually no difference except Texas has cities large enough to draw decent concert tours, fine dining restaurants, and airports large enough to book a direct flight to some place better.
Arkansas, Mississippi, Iowa, Idaho are all worse, and West Virginia, Alabama, and Kansas are basically exactly the same level of awful.
That’s simply not true, most of those places have habitable cities to live and didn’t have any tornados hit them yesterday lol
How many professional teams between all those states?
Mississippi and Arkansas could both be entirely underwater and the rest of the country would actually see a marked improvement.
ya @ baiting fouls
We aspire to be great at planting trees and going nowhere in the playoffs
2nd round mr.
