I don’t really follow baseball as much as I used to and was confused at a British team. It’s just Americans vs mostly Americans and guy born in the Bahamas, who the UK gave up as a territory decades before they were born. Also one guy who I couldn’t find his birthplace

There are rules. Those rules are pretty loose, and set in part by the countries the teams are from.
Like, the Italian team is mostly Italian Americans.
The players from Caribbean nations who are playing for Britain or Netherlands are from specific countries that are former colonies or current parts of the country. People from Aruba or Curacao possess Dutch citizenship.
In theory, Puerto Rican players could play for the US team as well, but since they have a team in the WBC they aren’t. The teams from Bahamas, Curacao, and others didn’t make the Classic this year, so some of the players who might have played for those teams are playing for GB or Netherlands.
Italy has very lax rules for who is eligible for citizenship. Anyone with an ancestor from Italy later than 1861 is eligible for Italian citizenship and thus eligible for Team Italy, regardless of whether or not they’ve pursued citizenship. Hence, millions of Americans are eligible and the team is mostly Americans.
Israel is another example - anyone with at least one Jewish grandparent is eligible for Israeli citizenship and the team is mostly Americans.
There are, but they are lax. I can understand everything up to being a citizen of the country or parents being born there, but the rules are easy enough that the country just has to say that they would allow the player to become a citizen.
For the Netherlands I can accept the players from Curaçao or Aruba as it’s still part of the Netherlands but for Britain they’re reaching really hard with the whole commonwealth thing they aren’t part of GB.
I get how it seems like that, but the head of state for the Commonwealth countries is King Charles. So there is a connection.
