To be fair, this Nicaragua team does not have anyone better to put in. This isn’t MLB where every reliever is good. Some of these bullpen arms in the WBC are genuinely unusable.
That’s what I was assuming.
Like, we’d be slamming Dusty if he took this guy out and put in a science teacher who immediately threw two pitches to the backstop and let them tie the game or served up 81 down the middle, so what’s the point
Yeah, that Brazil team last night went through all their pitchers & by the end couldn’t throw a strike. Then got smoked again today by Italy.
Like the guy laying out the 3-0 79 mph meatball for Judge yesterday lol.
And also they were really unlucky with that ground ball that hit 3rd base and took a wild bounce. It was like this was meant to happen.
But a lefty was warming up… Would turning him around, with more lefties coming up have been better? Idk, just talking shit…

Nicaragua is the poorest, least developed nation in Latin America. That’s why I found the DR celebrations to be in bad taste. The most pimped out home runs of all time.

Israel has an objectively better roster since all those American Jews play either MLB or AAA
I think people are really underestimating Israel. Having guys who play any kind of ball in the U.S. makes a big impact. Israel upset South Korea in 2017 since a lot of those guys were coming from the Minors.
That being said, man I hope Nicaragua can get a win over israel tomorow. They were so fucking close last time, and then losing like this damn.
It’s not so much that people are underestimating them as much as they’ve watched Nicaragua hold their own for most of the game against the DR and came agonizingly close to beating the Netherlands. If they can do that then it isn’t much of a jump that they can pull it off against America’s C team

Because Israels roster isnt half as good as the two teams they just played and they looked very good in those games.

The Netherlands have better players at the very top obviously but overall, but Israel has better pitching and a deeper lineup 1-9.
Israel have major leaguers at C, 1B, 2B, CF, DH with the rest of the roster mostly in AAA.
Israel beat our AAA team so this is true

I wouldn’t be surprised if that fooled the PBP. A walk-off HR usually has the home fans losing their shit. There’s really only two scenarios I can think of in MLB where you can expect the road fans to outnumber the home.

They were last teammates for a total of 19 games on the 2014 GCL Braves. The minor leagues used to be really huge and it was still possible for two lifers in the same organization to almost miss each other completely

Oh, yeah. There are those in the Astros sub who act like the WBC is the worst thing to happen to baseball. Peña’s finger getting hurt didn’t help matters, especially after Altuve’s hand was broken in the 2023 WBC. They clearly don’t understand or don’t care how much this means to the players.
It’s great for the sport in general. People get hurt sometimes.
