What state is POE2 currently in? Is it mostly finished or would you rather recommend to give it more time until development has further progressed?

Now’s actually the perfect time to try it. A lot of the core issues with the initial launch have been fixed and it’s 2 months until the next season. Play now, learn everything the game has to offer, then enjoy the big changes without getting overwhelmed in 0.5 (which is supposed to be a substantial update to the game).

And how does it work with seasons, is it like D3 that you miss a lot features that make the game more fun and convenient if you don’t + most of the players playing season only so it will be rather lonely on NS?

Right now, everything that gets released as part of a season (league in POE2) goes core, meaning it gets integrated into the base game after the season ends. For example, wisps (patch 0.2) and abyss (patch 0.3) “went core” and are still in the game. The expectation is that Vaal Temple (the current league mechanic for 0.4, which is the current patch) will also go core, meaning we’ll have it as part of the game in future patches as well.

That said, almost no one plays Standard (the non-league server) because so much gets added into the game every league: new classes, ascendancies, weapon types, skills, support gems, unique items, etc.

I never played poe1 and I can recommend trying poe2. Just be ready for a learning curve a bit. And still they do many changes each league.

I think the game in its current stage is perfect for new players. Its only bad for veteran POE1 players due how boring the deep lategame is.

I mostly just play the campaign every other weekend. I haven’t completed it yet but the game just FEELS so good to play. They’ve nailed the feel of the game.

For a beginner it’s phenomenal and get more than your moneys worth. Most people complaining atm are end game seasoned players. Next patch I heard they are focusing on endgame but it’ll take you probably 100-200 hours to get there as a beginner atm

It feels good, but I don’t find it that funny tbh. Feels quickly like a chore. Last season I tried Druid, since it was new. I had the same build från 1h into the season until I quit about 45h into it. It’s exactly the same gameplay, just added gems to modify and improve the same abilities I got 44hrs earlier.

It has a solid foundation and good systems - and keeps improving. But I’m not having more fun each season, quite the contrary tbh.

I tried poe1 a few years ago and it just didn’t click for me like poe2 did. I highly recommend starting it even this late into the league. Still plenty of time left. Just get to maps and slowly build your temple to learn the league mechanics and it’s a good monotony breaker which happens to give excellent xp, gold, and so much loot.

I would wait for 0.5 at least before jumping in, odds are they will have a free weekend when it comes too.

Wait for the free weekend when 0.5 comes out and try the game risk free. It’s currently late league and this is the worst economy this game has experienced in terms of inflation.

Great time to try it. I actually just purchased a few weeks ago maybe a month. I’m a min maxer. This is my mindset and how I’ve been attacking it so far. I played with a buddy normally and pretty slow honestly until we got to end game. After that I dove into maps and uber bosses min maxing gear understanding as much as I could. I ended up doing a pretty gg bow craft because I have (to simplify, iykyk) transferable diablo currency. I ran temples (but didn’t try to make my own too much work they will be reworked / gone next league) and had a blast while speed running the end game. I now have a super fun lvl 97 pathfinder that I keep playing with here and there but I’m trying not to play as much I’m very excited for the next league start.

I play standard quite a bit. Mapping with specters is a blast

Im not going back to it until the game is finished, after levelling up every character, repeating the same acts over got very boring, i have not played the new druid yet, ill go back to it when the game is complete, but it’s a very good game.

I just sank 140hrs since the free weekend in December so… Yeah, play it. I don’t know if I’m playing the right way, but I’m having a blast and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Pretty decent. Still very far from poe1, but give it maybe 2 years and it’ll get there probably.

It’s a great game, but it’s hard and the economy is quite bad right now so I’d wait for the 0.5 release scheduled for April or May.

Get it a few weeks before the next league so you can learn stuff and keep up for the upcoming league, the downside is that apparently next league will bring a lot of end game changes

I love it. I alternate between Diablo 4 and POE 2. When I get frustrated with POE 2, I tag in Diablo for some slash fun.

It’s good

POE2 is in a great spot to try. The story isn’t complete yet, but what they have is by far my favorite campaign in the genre.

The best advice I can give is this: read everything twice. Then again for good measure. Every line of text is important in understanding how the mechanics of this game work. Skill gems especially have multiple sections in different colors, and they’re ALL important for understanding how they work, and how you can best scale their damage.

Also, defenses are very important in POE. Elemental and Chaos resistance are needed to reduce their respective damages, and you’ll want to pick a defense style based on where you are on the skill tree. Left side is armour, top is energy shield, right is evasion. Between each of these are combos, armour + energy shield, evasion + armour, and evasion + energy shield. Make sure the gear you equip matches these, as it’s extremely hard to scale gear from the opposite side of the tree. The same applies for weapons.

Game had massive upside when it first launched and has been worth playing from the start. But it had a lot of rough edges.

Since 0.3, most of the rough edges had been sanded and the game was very well balanced and finally had some semblance of crafting. This was the point when the game was just a universal recommend from me.

Next patch is going to be a big endgame revamp and I’m really hoping we get some new itemization to play with. I’m expecting that update to be huge.

Game is in a great state and it’s only getting better.

I wouldn’t rush into it, lots of classes are still missing and campaign is not fully finished. Don’t get me wrong it is a good game and has a lot of potential, but there is only enough content for about 1000, maybe 1500 hours at best right now.

I haven’t seen anyone mention this explicitly really. The game is not even half way finished to address one of your concerns in the post. Half of the campaign is done and virtually 0 endgame content at this time. It’s worth the price, but you wouldn’t be missing out on anything if you waited a few more months.

Current league is horrible i would wait

Not a POE2 blazer but its in a state where the money down is worth the price. I suspect the next season will be huge and as much as I dislike the system, having the money to buy tabs for items/currency is nice long term.

Plays well but not as filled with content and experience as POE1.

Give it another couple of seasons

I play on PS5 and I love it but there are performance issues. I haven’t played since the most recent update so idk if any of it was fixed. I definitely don’t regret paying for it though.

I really like the league schedule in this game. If you burn out and take a break, theres a really clear time to get back in.

Campaign is good, endgame is pretty bad. Endgame is getting better in 0.5. It’s a good time to try, as the more they add the more overwhelming it’ll be to learn. That’s why I never could get into PoE 1.

Has to be better than the crap show that is Poe 1 rn. Never seen so many bugs in a new patch

The endgame needs a crap ton of work, but the campaign is superb and most builds are great fun.

The game has a super solid basis, and can be a ton of fun to play right now. But ultimately it’s still unfinished and has a skeleton endgame. Enough to keep you interested and see the crazy stuff you can do at max power, but it lacks mechanics and the depth 1e has thanks to dozens of years of development.

My recommendation: if you’re too curious and want to try right now, go for it, it’s fun. If having a solid endgame is a deal breaker for you, wait for what should be logically 0.5, in a few months, which should rework/introduce a proper endgame to have fun with.

The campaign and interludes are fantastic, and I’ve played through them multiple times on different characters.

I don’t mind the end game mapping (understanding that it’s not the end game and they are working on a better end game). if you were playing from day one of early access I could see how some would be over it.

For a point of reference I played the first 10 seasons of D4 to completion (100% season journey done) and hopped into PoE2 half way through 0.3. I have had more fun on PoE2 than I did at any point in D4, and I really did enjoy D4 up until I didn’t any more.

Hop in it’s a lot of fun. It’s a full game atp. Tons of stuff to do and the skill tree is very fleshed out

It’s only up to version 0.4. So 6 more leagues before version 1 comes out which is full release.

Basically 1 new class each league and a new special area each time.

I feel like those who don’t start now will be so lost when full release is out. Whilst all the EA player will blast through the game inflating currency.

No start of next league would be a lot better. Economy is wack right now from how temple currently works. Most likely will be changed next league and balanced out.

If you don’t care about economy or are ssf then yeah great time.
