[Highlight] Victor Wembanyama after Spurs win over Clippers:
“I thought I was about to pass out in the first quarter from exhaustion. That was close to being the hardest game of my life.”
He played nearly 40 min just last night vs the Pistons and they are physical as hell
Yeah I was wondering If It was about the b2b, he’s had other games this season where I felt like he was running around and playing more intense without much issue, shit must get really different on the day right after another tough game
Also Indiana plays fierce everytime they face a top team this season, I think it’s a team pride thing after the run last year
This dude is not gonna have a long career. Can’t do back to back’s at 22?
The OP is from after the end of the second game. He did, in fact, do a back to back
And felt like he was gonna pass out in the first quarter.
And won both, and the last 9 out of their 10 games.
I mean he’s probably the main focus on the offensive side and he’s the main cog on the defensive side, and he’s a big man running the floor.
I think the Spurs will need to monitor his minutes more so in the future, but he should be fine, at least that’s what I hope for.
No one has ever been the main focus on offense and defense before, right?
37 year old Kevin Durant played 41 minutes last night and then 39 minutes tonight. Wemby just soft.
KD also didn’t play against yhe Pistons last night. And is not the clear #1 option on his team. And also doesn’t match up against centers. And is much less active on defense.
You don’t think it’s a little weird how wiped Wemby is? You think he’ll make it through a tough playoff series if he can’t handle the first quarter of a back to back? Regular season pistons aren’t any top team in the playoffs.
Just because they may not be top as a team, doesn’t make their defense less physical and less taxing. (they are a top team but I won’t argue about that …. )
Anyways, fair thing to worry about but he played 40 mins yesterday and 22 mins today and scored 38pt/16rbd/5blk and 27pt/10rb/4blk on a B2B - and we won both. I think he will do alright with a day’s break in playoffs, but we’ll see. Also, I am certain he will only play around 32-35 mins most games.
There are no back to backs in the playoffs.
That won’t be a factor after the last B2B on April 2nd.
Yeah, he’s also 37 years old and has had a torn Achilles and a Jones fracture, among countless other injuries during his career. He was balding before Wemby hit puberty. Might as well change your flair.
I get it man, Thunder just won the finals and have had an amazing season but people have already turned on them and are gushing over the next young team. I would be upset too.
Hahaha we’re the champs and still the best team in the league, I’m not upset at all. Feel bad for the Spurs getting stuck in our conference tbh
You’re right yall should be getting more flowers. People are treating SGA like Harden during his “Hitler” years and Dort like Draymond. Yall got off to an amazing start, have the best record in the league and have a winning record against almost every team in the league this season.
This young Spurs team has a lot to prove but hopefully the elders of the organization can teach them that getting through a stacked conference is just how the cookie crumbles in the West.
This is the nicest shit talking I’ve ever seen.
I’m going to sleep now, have a great night.
Lmao have a good sleep brother.
Or instead of changing my flair, I could just appreciate what Wemby did, and what KD did? Because both put up incredible preformances. Realistically, what one did does not diminish the other.
Hahahaha boy that okc hate for the spurs just EATING you up huh?
Spurs in 6.
Haha I’m just having fun talking shit about sports. I sleep well knowing we’d destroy you guys in the playoffs.
Lmfao up until this point, I haven’t seen anything that has me that worried against yall, I’d be more scared of Denver/ minny ngl
So i guess the regular season games mean nothing now 🤷♂️
Correct
4-1
Is there actually even 1 OKC fanboy that doesn’t act like a bitter basketball incel on r/NBA… Like I’ve not seen a single one here that ever has anything positive to say about any team or player. What’s wrong with you lot?
Easily the most annoying fan base ive ever seen on this reddit
thunder fans don’t hold a candle to knicks, nuggets, wolves, and pacers fans. they’re all annoying, whiny, crying, little bitches.
edit: lol!
kicks: i don’t care what the rulebook says, that was a CHARGE!
nuggets: lu dort is the dirtiest player basketball has ever seen, ban him from the league!
wolves: REFS! REFS! REFS! REFS!
pacers: haliburton was on pace to score OVER 9000 points in game seven!
It’s just sports bro, it’s not that serious.
Here, I’ll say something nice: Tim Duncan is the greatest power forward of all time. I’m a huge Stephon Castle fan too, he’s a dog.
He’s a big phony!
See, this is just going too far in the other direction, why not just go at the troll instead of this weird shit that becomes essentially fandom wars online
You havent seen an OKC fan say something positive? That’s like me saying I havent seen a reasonable Spurs fan lol, It would just be a lie
KD has never had anywhere near the two-way workload that Wemby does.
Lol this is a completely reasonable take. I’ve literally never seen an nba player say they were tired after a quarter of basketball. Slam me with downvotes reddit
Top 1% Commenter doesn’t understand the physical nature of professional basketball? I’m shocked!
Look what Beef Stew did to my Baguette Boy
Now dip that baguette into that beef stew
Sounds like a French Dip 👀
Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
Softened him up, soaked him in flavor. Damn i could go for bread and soup rn.
Kind if crazy that with all the fouls called on both the Pistons and Spurs last night, that Stewart only had one. He could’ve fouled out in ten minutes
Fr
Imagine explaining this to a nba fan 10 years ago
I’ve been calling him my baguette boy to my friends as a joke and this is the firdt time I’ve seen someone else call him that lol
His first win against kawhi btw
hopefully the 1st of many
Unless Kawhi retires early
Wouldn’t be the first time he quit on a team and ran away
Hell no
Might be 1 of many that is coming
Maybe they didn’t know how Wembys body would respond, but playing him 40 minutes and Luke only 8 on the first night of a back to back, in a game you were up 22, and eventually won by 15, makes me think they maybe could’ve played him less last night.
Hopefully, going forward, the second night won’t be a struggle to get through.
I mean if you watched the game the lead shrank the second he went to the bench that’s why they were matching his minutes with Cade.
I agree. People act like that game wasn’t ever close, but there it wasn’t until the last 3 or so minute that I 100% thought “yeah we have this in the bag”.
People forget that really good NBA players like the ones that start for Detroit can erase large leads against second stringers very quickly
He’s regularly going to need to be playing big minutes in the playoffs. I’d rather them get him accustomed to that now (without overworking him ofc)
Luckily there aren’t back-to-backs in the playoffs
Dont give adam silver any ideas
The Cavs played poorly in the playoffs last season due to that. Starters were accustomed to playing only 30-33 minutes a night and eventually when it came to the playoffs, when the starters needed to play 38, they were gassed and fell off a cliff when they needed to play in the crunch. Saving your legs is important but imo, being able to consistently give good production through 38+ minutes might be even more of a contributing factor in the playoffs.
Do you feel cavs will be better equipped to handle it this year?
It’s a toss up, James Harden is definitely less of a “pattern” player than DG was, when things got rough and DG was on the floor it was a pretty predictable offense. Harden in the games he has played so far has been able to incorporate players more so than DG has in this small sample size. Keon has been a super enthusiastic defensive role player in the time he’s been here which has been sorely needed for our back court.
Overall I think that it’s still match up based for the playoffs, if we were to play the Pistons I would definitely have our team be very competitive and perhaps even very favored against them, we have two great interior defenders in Mobley and Allen, but a gritty team like the Knicks we may struggle with.
Appreciate the thoughts! Great write up. Best of luck this season!
Pistons cut it to 8, second half was much closer than scoreline indicted. Wemby plays 5-10 minutes less and we may even have lost that game. We needed his 38 and 15.
That’s my MVP!
this young man will look great as a champion, i think everyone is ready for it (as long as it isn’t against their team).
I hope we get a Spurs OKC playoff series
I really wonder how the playoffs with affect him
Yea I’m not worried but also not confident. Playoffs are a fucking grind on top of the grind of a full season. Play becomes more physical, it’s more mentally exhausting because your opponents are now cutting off your first, second, and third move.
Unstoppable force meeting immovable object type shit with Wemby in the playoffs. Hoping it goes well for him
Ant has specifically talked about this too. Both those WCF appearances the entire team was gassed. And my cope for why they take so games easy now lol. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same happens with the Spurs and Wemby this offseason if they make a long run
That’s all true, but there’s also a lot of rest between games in the playoffs.
Probably easier than now. There’s no rodeo road trip in the playoffs where the Spurs don’t get to be at home for a month straight
Man, I like this kid. He’s no nonsense and straight up in his interviews.
Can’t believe my guy is French
Well the playoffs should be interesting for him…
Tall man’s MVP
D
Wemby > and more likable than Luka.
good guy wemby let’s gooooo. refreshing. also big fan of castles play style.

Just imagine someone sitting at their keyboard and confidently typing that Victor Wembanyama isn’t cut out for basketball.
It was hard because of b2b with 38 min last game and a come-back down 25.
He is more than ready to whoop some ass.
This attitude is so much more fun to root for than horse boy who acts like he can’t be bothered to care. Exactly what you want in a superstar.
People are different lol no need to be rude
These guys want everyone to have the same personality
Not everyone is going to be Wemby or Ant and that’s okay
Tim Duncan was one of the greatest ever and people barely remember him talking if at all
Duncan still came across as passionate about the sport. Jokic acts like it’s just a job. One he’s not even fond of a lot of the time. Which is his right of course. Just like it’s my right to find it off putting and prefer players who seem excited about the sport they play and get millions for. Pretty simple concept.
If u actually watched a nuggets game, you’d know how much Jokic cares about winning. Not everyone needs to declare their love for the sport in a press conference. People have different personalities.
Jokic also has a very European sense of humor, with a lot more sarcasm than Americans are used to
This is dumb, Jokic doesnt act in any specific way, he’s just not that enthusiastic about media, he’s very visibly caring about the games
Jokic cares just as much what a horrible take.
He doesn’t show it
So what?
Yeah, who gives a shit? Also, the pearl clutching in this thread that Jokic doesn’t care about a championship parade is very funny.
Bro didn’t even want to go to the championship parade, he said he didn’t think it was important and would rather go back home.
He care about basketball, but not about anything around it (especially anything connected to the medias)
My armchair take is also that Jokic didn’t grow up obsessively dreaming about being an NBA player, let alone a superstar. Wemby, Lebron, Tatum, Booker, etc… they’ve been hyped since they were 10 and winning the championship has been this carrot in front of them since forever. The ecosystem for elite basketball prospects in the US is insane, and for hyped ones in Europe as well (Luka, Wemby).
Jokic was the 41st pick coming from Serbia. He obviously had ambition and belief in himself, but the idea of being an NBA champion and MVP hasn’t consumed him and the people around him since he was a teenager.
A lot of the emotion these guys feel in these moments is relief after decades of anticipation, dreaming about these things, and their dreams coming true.
the parade has nothing to do with the media and everything to do with the fans that fuel his multi-million dollar contact
maybe he should have been more into the parade
it’ll be his only one
i mean, he seemed to enjoy it quite a bit when he was actually there lol.
“Wahh I cant control other grown men’s emotions wahh”
Take a walk
This is concerning.
Seems like the blood clot effects are still lingering.
Or coming back…
Shit so Beautiful man, A Luka and Wemby pairing will be dangerous
Luka stuck in purgatory over here unfortunately
2028 will be a different story
New Spurs arena is opening in 2032 he’s not leaving before that.
Luka coming to the spurs
Nah
They’d be a great pairing you can’t deny it
Some Laker delulu.
Not a lakers fan
I think he meant Luka will take the vet minimum as a FA to come get a ring with Wemby.
On the Lakers, right?
No
He’s going to have a shorter career than people think.
This is possible, but respectfully, I think it’s such a lame way to look at basketball. Injuries are possible for anyone, and they’re probably more likely for him, but it’s such lazy analysis
I think it’s an alright thing to think, but some things are best left unsaid. Too much negativity already without you speaking it into existence.
I’m not saying people are rooting for Wemby to get injured, but it feels like there’s a certain sect of people who want to be right about him being injury plagued so badly. It’s really weird
It’s the chronic pessimism you contract from being online too much.
What a sad way to watch sports.
I don’t know how much shorter it can get with y’all saying this over and over again lmao
You’re so brave for saying this
Shut up nerd
Funny you’re a Lakers fan. You would’ve said the same about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar if you were alive and watching then.
