[Highlight] Wembanyama emotional after 25-pt comeback for the Spurs
27/10/4b in 22 minutes
22 minutes, insane
Dude is going to set some per 36 records.
Will he beat Tacko Fall ± record?
I’ve already beat the Taco Eat record so he might have a chance
Gotta learn from Boban’s per 36 numbers
He’s a cheat code man
This dude is not even on his rookie max extension ffs.
He had 40⁄12 on us in 26 mins! 😂 😭
This guy is making a habit of posting legitimately unbelievable statlines, modern wilt
Why did he play that little in a comeback win?
Back to back game. Watching his minutes
Playing nearly 39 mins yesterday, no less
And the Kornett Kontest at the end
Fucking love Wemby and how much he cares. He’s not too cool, which makes him unbelievably cool. Know what I mean?
He’s the anime protag that believes it
Young Jōnin are dangerous.
Wemby bout to drop 20/20/10 + 10 blocks + 5 steals in the playoffs. That would be on same level as Ohtanis godly performance of throwing 10 strikeouts and nuking 3 homers in the NLCS last year
I think Wemby would almost need a five double to match ohtanis insane feat.
Five double?
It’s a quintuple double lmfao
Thanks I couldn’t think of the word lol
Was just thinking that Wemby might save this league. Great to see a player actually give a shit. Speaks his mind to the media, isn’t shy about going at some of his rivals, and is showing real emotion after beating a lottery team in the regular season. He also came out hard at the All Star game and forced others to match his energy.
The dude shaved his head and lived as a monk in the offseason to up his mental game lol hard not to like the guy
Lucky he went to a good org like Spurs.
Only downside is he went to a well run organization that will be a competitive team around him. For the rest of the league anyways.
it’s so refreshing to see a hooper, hell a person in general, really just fucking care, try hard and go for it in our “being too cool for everything” world, love to see his passion for real
True.
I love Wemby but let’s be real. Reddit fandom of a player is fleeting. Yeah he speaks his mind but the first time he says something just a little out of step with what “you” agree with, he is all of a sudden a POS.
Hell we had a player who gave a shit enough to hurry back from an Achilles tear because he wanted to play and people on Reddit still call him “corny”.
imo its “authenticity”. I dont feel like he is anyone but himself and i think people gravitate toward that. i do, at least.
being nonchalant will never be cool unless that’s ur actual personality
And even then, it’s not a great quality for a star from a “fan enjoyment” perspective
Some are also just actually shy even if they feel alot inside. It just comes off as nonchalant
You could say that about faking any personality trait
He’s definitely not SGA wearing a whole husky around him at an interview cool.
More than cool, I’d describe SGA as chilly. Someone give him a sweater.
Wemby cries after winning a regular season game: Aww you’re so sweet😊
Patrick Beverly cries after winning the play-ins and going to the playoffs: Hello, human resources?!?😳
I feel like everyone who actually follows the sport understood Pat Bev in that moment. First Timberwolves playoff berth in 100 years or whatever. It was huge for their fanbase.
But it was also Pat Bev who is …. Less than loved.
TURN UP NOW AND FACE THE SUN
He’s a nerd playing a cool sport.
“Of course I brought a book. You don’t read?”
Like a new gen Timmy on this aspect
I think his authenticity bleeds through the tv
Tears in my eyes man, god i hate the nonchalant gimmick sone players do, wemby cares so much.
HOW CAN YOU NOT BE ROMANTIC ABOUT BASKETBALL
Beating Kawhi Leonard always hold a special place in Spurs’ heart.
THIS. Wemby talks to the fans. We have every LAC game circled for the time being.
I woke up at 5 am to see the last quarter, just to see the clanker get rekt live.
Lol. I believe Spurs fans have every Kawhi game circled, but bro is not crying because they beat the Clippers.
I mean, fair. But trust me he knows this game meant a lot to the fans and he cares about that, clearly.
He’s even trying to build an Euro-like connection to the fanbase. I have no doubt he cared about winning this specific game.
And he has the perfect mould to follow with Spurs keeping the likes of The Admiral, Tim Duncan, Manu. Even guys like Patty and Boban didn’t want to leave but it was time. Pop keeps cooking and beating LA
I lived in San Antonio for ~5 years around the time Kawhi was really blossoming during their last Title runs – and let me tell y’all, that city really does LOVE their Spurs.
i doubt he gives a shit about kawhi related rivalries. he doesn’t gloat or anything there. he’s probably crying because they were down so far and they held together and worked together and he can see that others care as much as he does about winning.
i hope this dude wins multiple rings for the spurs. he deserves to.
I guess claw just really wanted to go home. But agreed, his people didnt handle it the greatest. If it truly was historical romanticism, there needs to be a villain. My choice in casting would be ‘Don’t call me Joey’ Zaza Pachulia
I don’t think they’ve done it often either lol he’s 12-3 against the Spurs.
So ya a pretty big deal
Scrappy underdog spurs getting a win against the Clippers. You love to see it
Wemby is a fucking Natural
There is nothing natural about Wemby
A genetic freak is still a natural 👽
But what happens when you add Kurt Angle to the mix?
See, normally if you go one on one with another basketballer, you got a 50⁄50 chance of winning. But I’m a genetic freak and I’m not normal! So you got a 25%, AT BEST, at beat me.
you don’t see 7’13 people walking in the streets where you live??
He’s only 6’16”
You mean the 5’29 French guy?
Dude is French. He is romantic about how he makes his espresso in the morning.
We call it expresso.
No love for the French Press?
For sure, for sure.
https://i.imgur.com/yqnxHoR.jpeg
If the sight of a perfect crema doesn’t bring a tear to your eye then you don’t deserve espresso
Refs, gambling, and open cap circumvention
That is the face of man who now actually believes this team can overcome any obstacle and win a title
This was huge to comeback and not give up
And also seeing everyone contribute. Champagnie couldn’t miss. Vassell had some great makes. Fox was consistent. Carter Bryant was good on both ends. Dylan Harper had some solid drives. Kornet played well.
That’s what it’s going to take to win a chip and tonight proved they have it in them if they can maintain that consistently through the playoffs.
Fox was elite. Breaking ankles. Give Castle his flowers. The defense, rebounding and assists are there every night for him
I’ve said this elsewhere, but I really think Castle should make an All-Defensive Team this year. I watch a lot of Spurs games and he has consistently impressed me.
Run thru the tape. Thank you c Webb!
this is the face of spurs fans who’s so used to heart attacks in clutch games. This time we’re securing Ws.
He’s obsessed with winning. Doesn’t care about how it happens. Doesn’t care about the odds. Doesn’t care about how good his team is supposed to be. He believes every game can and should be won.
I’m having a hard time thinking of a comp. Jordan obviously, but he also wanted to dominate individually. Kevin Garnett, but more zen?
Tim Duncan but 7’5
What is he doing?
He’d beginning to believe. 😎
“You’re… you’re telling me that I can block shots?”
No, Wemby. I’m telling you that when you’re ready, you won’t have to.
I don’t think a regular season win against LAC is what convinced him lol he knows what he / his team is cooking with
Tied for largest comeback in the league this year
That always brings a team together
Oh for sure. Great win. But I think this team is an inner circle contender and I think Vic knows that, regardless of how this game panned out it all
You can know something without it feeling true
Crazy how quickly this team came together. Wemby is in his third season. Hopefully they get plenty of cracks at the title. Under this CBA it’s never been harder to sustain a contender.
i believe we’re young enough to wait it out. could be just 3 more seasons.
It doesn’t have to be that he just realized it. Seems to me like he’s proud of his team and sometimes that emotion comes out
It’s the context. Second night of a back-to-back, after beating the single best team in the east (and a contender to the title), facing not a scrub team but a decent playoff-tier team (which is the Clippers real level, after the awful start to the season). This wasn’t facing the Pacers and the Kings back to back. And obviously this wasn’t a regular game against the Clippers either.
1000%. This game seriously opened new doors for him mentally
My biggest fear over wemby is the front office not being able to build a team around him and we get a LeBron James situation where he leaves because we can’t build a team to complement him. I’m so glad our FO is so dam smart.
We’re so lucky to get castle & Harper right after him too, it’s insane
I love Castle he’s probably my favorite Spur at the moment
And my boy CB, I know he’s going to be huge for us
I get what you’re saying but the fact that you had that fear as a Spurs fan is hilarious. I guess you were just being humble/realistic. The rest of the basketball world knew Wemby landed in the greatest spot possible with the best organization possible. I had absolutely no doubt you guys would be contenders by year 3 and here we are.
That is the face of the league
If you are his teammates and see this why wouldn’t you run through a wall for him..
Not his teammate or a fan of his team and I would run through a wall for him
Walls on notice.
Walls soon to be in shambles.
John Wall is beside himself. Driving around downtown San Antonio begging (thru texts) for address to Wemby’s home.
John Wall is already ran through
“OH YEAAAAHHH”
It’s the exact same shit with Timmy D and Pop man. Timmy let Pop coach him hard and the rest of the team fell in line. Victor plays the game with such an infectious passion, the rest of the team falls in line.
The franchise really is blessed and graced by the basketball gods
And blessed with those San Antonio women
Right Chuck?
And with my Churos (and ax) !!!!
…..this guy gets it.
You say basketball gods, I say the Spurs have had the best front office maybe in all of sports for almost 30 years. Yeah, they got lucky with the Timmy draft but they found gems in Parker and Manu, developed Kawhi into a superstar and have the systems in place to let Wemby thrive.
Pop ain’t dead my man. Pop is still this teams soul. They still read books and get homework. It’s just a lil Pop light and Pop junior is looking like a good win for coach of the year.
Even as a fan this makes you care way more. Seemed like nearly a playoff atmosphere in that arena on tv. It’s hard to care when some of the Canadian/american guys play it too cool for school and some of the Europeans seem like it’s just a job they’re clocking in for
One of my shoulders is already dislocated. I’ll run through a wall with the other shoulder for this alien.
It’s still dislocated!? Dude go to a hospital
Gd I love this dude. He’s brought back the love/joy/competitiveness to the NBA. He wants to win without distractions and it shows.
The NBA needs him more than he knows.
Wemby is an emotional guy. I remember during his rookie season when we had one of our incredibly rare wins he was in tears talking about how much winning means to him and leading a “Go Spurs Go” chant. He’ll probably grow out of it eventually and treat the NBA like a job but for now I’m more than happy to see how much he cares.
nah wemby cares about basketball a lot, too much if we’re being honest. he’s the kind of player to turn down a party invitation so he can prepare for a summer league game because he shot terribly in the first one
That was the win over the Thunder, first game home after his first rodeo road trip (we went 1-8). Super emotional game for everyone in the stadium
Sad to think that being emotional is something to grow out of
Didn’t mean to imply that it was, it’s just that we’ve seen plenty of people take being in the NBA for granted over the years. For example, I remember a rookie Luka being devastated over not making the All-Star team and now he’s one of the dudes who I least want to watch at the All-Star game given how little he cares to try (not that most players put effort there anyway). Of course I’d love to see Wemby continue to express how special it is to compete in the NBA; it’s what keeps the fans like myself invested in the league and its players and we’ll definitely be needing that once the old guard finally retires.
what a fucking psycho……
I love it.
I just can’t get over how much he towers over everyone
Isn’t Biyombo like 6’10 he looks like a toddler hugging Wemby 😭
6’8”
Like the opposite of a psycho, idk what that would be.
He’s very passionate and seems like a romantic, which checks out since he’s french lmao
He’s so passionate 😭
Crying’s off brand for psychos though, right?
Hey has anyone seen Mazzulla cry before?
Wemby’s mental might actually be his most amazing asset
Deadass I agree, his physical gifts are obviously otherworldly but the guy’s personality and psychotic drive to be the best is what’s going to make him unstoppable. His mentality is so insanely intense. Just downright overwhelming desire to win every single possession.
Bro shows more intensity in the regular season than a lot of guys do in the playoffs.
It’s a will to win I haven’t seen in a while. Almost KG-esque but in his own unique Wemby way.
I think the main difference compared to KG is that Wemby is better and more open with expressing his emotions. With KG his intensity mostly came out as anger and aggression, whereas with Wemby you can also see the joy and sadness from wins and losses. It probably helps keep teammates engaged when he is not just intense about mistakes and losses but has that same intensity celebrating when they win and are doing well.
With Kobe and MJ they said they hated to lose more than they loved to win. Wemby seems to have a better balance. I think that’s why he can have so much intensity without being abrasive to his teammates. Though it could also be that the Spurs org is so good at keeping a professional environment that he doesn’t have to try and push his teammates as much.
No I would say him being 7’5 with a 10 foot standing reach is his most amazing asset
I adore how he embraces his feelings. I said it after seeing him cry for the fifth time - he’s authentic.
Dude is built different physically and… neurologically.
He loves basketball and competing so much. This is the face of NBA.
100%. We in good hands with Wemby.
Crying for a regular season game. Damn he’s going to be so good… The entire spurs team believes.
He already is
reddit, where people who agree find a way to disagree
That’s true. Fuck you.
No it ain’t, fuck you.
No, fuck you!
My Brother, my Captain, my King.
The call of the son of gondor did not fall on deaf ears tonight.
I would have gone with you to the end. To the very fires of Mordor.
Please take out OKC lmao.
The Spurs will save us from OKC
I am starting to believe
Hopefully they save us from the Celtics instead
The Celtics are I think our kryptonite; they shoot 1000 threes and don’t depend on getting in the paint as much as other teams.
I truly hope the Pistons get out of the East, because they’re a worst matchup for OKC and a better one for us.
Then who will save us from the Spurs
We’ll all thrive under the new regime!
Your government issued Spurs jersey will be delivered promptly. You are instructed to wear it at all times.
It’s pretty darn cool to see someone passionate about about what they do.
Tears after a meaningless game in March? This is what we pay for
Trying to get the one seed it’s possible for them to do that.
as much flack Mitch has gotten at times (I am guilty too), that was masterful.
Yeah except for that stretch with no BIG in the 4th Q. We gave up a quick easy 4 pts. the fuck was that about haha
Luke was terrible tonight
You can tell bro is exhausted. Crazy comeback, the 4th quarter was insane. What a game
Said so in the post game. He had to be rushed to the locker room for extreme fatigue and played restricted minutes as a result.
IM CRYING TOO WEMBY ITS OK
Holy fuck he lives and breathes basketball
For the love of the game.
“The biggest thing I’ve learned is a 20-point lead is nothing.” - Vic
MVP
God I would run through a wall for this man
Can’t spell Wemby without a W
Literally Victor W. Double win for the back to back
I thought something bad happened to him until I realized he just absolutely LOVES this game
“That’s for Chris Paul!”
beautiful perfect man
i want to hug him
Wemby in March Madness mode.
My French goat, I love you.
Respect.
He is trying so hard to disguise himself as one of us. You aren’t clever Wemby. Aliens don’t cry!
I was at the game. I have no voice right now I was yelling so loud. Perfect day
Same bro. I was absolutely dead after that 25 comeback. There was a moment when they tried doing a GSG chant towards the end during a timeout and the entire crowd was gassed lmao.
Goddamnit, Spurs fans so damn lucky to have a cornerstone player that gives this much of a shit…
Wish my Rockets had that type of leadership
My goat
Better not see ex players and podcasters clown Wemby for this. This is what the fans want to see!
I fucking love the NBA regular season
Victor the Conqueror
Bryant was a force on defense for the final push, he had 3 back to back to back stops steals
I LOVE BEING A SPURS FAN
We have come a long from clowning the Wolves for celebrating ending the playoff drought to applauding a guy for crying after winning a regular season game
Yup lol Jokic flops, “He had no choice”, Shai flops “oh my god unwatchable” Beverley cries after the play in “What a fucking clown!”, Wemby cries after a regular season game on a Friday night, “Oh my God face of the league he really cares” 🤣
He’s my damn hero
This guy doesn’t understand that we’re in the era of nonchalant. Being chalant is cringe and you should be way too cool to care about anything
let the tears flow my baby GOAT!
THATS MY GOAT
I love seeing this in the league, but y’all go crazy over this and still clown Pat Bev for being emotional after a play-in win ☠️☠️🙏🙏
How can you not love Wemby?
This type of real raw emotional is so much better to see than the nonchalant gimmick so many NBA players try
That’s the most impactful 22 minute basketball performance of all time
Bro its the clippers
Can Doris Burke just retire/get fired already?
Biyombo’s reaction was everyone’s reaction the last minute of this game
Lebron and Curry fans ready to turn in their jerseys
Reminded me of Pat Bev
After fixing the all star game he’s now fixing toxic masculinity
Clippers are fucking cheeks 🤣
That’s a man that truly loves the game of basketball. What a great guy Wemby is man.
Aight man 😂 I’m rooting for wemby but come on
All I’m going to say is if Tatum did this the reaction on r/NBA would be a WHOLE lot different
Yeah this is absolutely insane lol
