Prior to his calf injury this season they were giving him more minutes than they are now. He was averaging 35 minutes a game. Two games in that stretch over 38 minutes

Hes averaging the lowest blocks of his career not because he became worse at it but because teams literally stop going into the paint against him, just crazy defensive dominance especially in the modern offensive oriented era

Thunder fan. This is true. He’s the only player that can really take us out of our game due to the amount that sga and dubb rely on getting to the rim and the 3 pointer being our biggest weakness and very much so in last years playoffs. It’ll be fun to watch the playoffs this year and see who wins. Spurs hate the Thunder but everyone gunning for and hates the thunder. It’s not just Wemby, the fact that we have 2 incredibly talented defensive guards in Castle (elite) and Devin (underrated and an A- defender) is incredibly valuable in containing guard-oriented teams who thrive on paint penetration.

Obviously Wemby is the anchor, but he allows those guys to be even more aggressive. And Harper has a lot of size too, he could end up being another ++ defender for the Spurs.

The number 1 thing you need is 5 out spacing or running pick and rolls with a top 3 point shooter to force wemby out of the paint

He’s already one of the best defenders ever, he’ll probably be considered the best by the end of his career. That plus being a 3 level scorer is incomparable

He plays for the team so he doesn’t always need to be the best scorer, others take turns. When he struggles offensively he will be a beast on defense.

I’ve been watching ball religiously for a long damn time, long enough to remember Jordan at his peak.

I’ve never seen anyone like this on defense. People say it’s just his size, but we’ve seen dozens of monstrously tall guys walk through the league.

Wemby is a once-ever defensive giant. He’s already, I think, at a level I’ve never seen before. Prime Hakeem certainly did some things better than Wemby on defense but even he didn’t influence every single play on the court like Wemby does. It’s unreal to watch. He’s what Steph was on offense on the other side of the court.

I legitimately wonder how they find hotels that have beds large enough to accommodate him. You need a bed that’s at least 8 feet long for him to be comfortable and even then he’d only have a few inches on either side of his head/feet to be on it.

He’s been 4th or 5th all year long but I don’t know how Luka is still ahead of him considering Wemby is obviously several ppg behind but Luka is awful on D and Wemby is already far and away the best defender in the world. Arguably the best defensive player in any major sport.

The problem is that players just stop driving to the paint when he’s around, after a while. That’s something hard to measure in stats.

Spurs won’t play him 36 minutes a night in a full regular season, ever. Those big bodies break down, and he’s a long term investment. Spurs wrote the book on load management.
