The Pacers have not been rushing Tyrese back to the court by any means, but it does seem like Tyrese has been pushing for and hinting at an early April return. He also probably doesn’t want to go more than a year without playing basketball.

If Tyrese gets medically cleared & decides that he wants to play a couple games before the end of the season, the Pacers’ FO will probably let him do it. Rebuilding confidence is a big deal for guys coming off major injuries: they shouldn’t be off the court longer than necessary. It’d be similar to how they let Paul George play the final few games of April to come back from breaking his leg in half the previous summer.

Tyrese recently started 5-on-5 scrimmages, after working his way up from 3-on-3 and 4-on-4. He’s getting really close to being ready to see the court. But IDK how badly shingles will set him back. He’s away from the team for 2-3 weeks & he’s almost certainly on some sort of physical activity restriction.

One of the reasons why it would’ve been dumb for the Pacers NOT to publicly rule him out was because early April was the earliest possible return date for him. Any setback = return next season.

We have to remember KD took so much time off because of the pandemic. He was cleared for the bubble, but opted to not play.

Haliburton was hurt before that and every playoff game was a risk. He already had a calf strain that took him out before that Game 7.

Also how quickly you get surgery matters. It just so happens that Tatum got injured in NYC, and the doctor who did KD’s surgery was in town and did the surgery the next day. It was like 12 hours between the injury and surgery which surely helped.

Tatum went under the knife less than 24 hours after his injury. I forget exactly how quick it was but I want to say in the 12-18 hour range. That’s a big part of his quick recovery since the tendon didn’t have time to atrophy after the tear.

i bet inflammation matters too, some peoples bodies might be making the surgery wounds super inflamed which would slow down healing, while some peoples bodies kinda take it easy on it

It really was a perfect storm of circumstances to maximize the chances of a full and quick recovery.

His first step isn’t debilitatingly fast like Edwards and he’s not some bruiser like Prime LeBron (who also had an amazing first step).

I’m not sure how he’ll come back but this is such a weird take? Tatum is not as good as prime KD but his play style is much closer to big wing tough shot maker than someone over reliant on athleticism? They’re both trying to shoot over you vs go around or over you. Even if he’s no longer a star, he could at least be potentially a good ³⁄₄ three and D. Dame hasn’t even made it back yet but part of his success is his quickness along with the range and shot making.

he’s like a 6’2 guard thats the speedy type, his defense is going to be abysmal when he’s back and he’s significantly older then tatum or even kd at the time of the achilles injury

I don’t know how comparable this is to other Achilles injuries because he got hurt in the city with arguably the best orthopedic surgery center in the US and he seemed to get surgery very quickly which is incredibly important for Achilles tears
