[SNY] “SGA, he’s a tough cover. He does a great job of convincing the referees - probably better than anybody in the league - that he’s getting hit.”
SGA got this man actually talkin about refereeing for the first time this season, this is shocking LMAO
Yeah Mike Brown has been pretty adamant about not complaining about reffing because he doesn’t want the players to either. Like to the point of damn near bashing KAT in the media for complaining too much. He definitely knew the weight of not calling another foul on Shai in the first quarter.
Did the Knicks even use a challenge this game?
TBF the worst one was the non-call on Shai colliding into Brunson and that’s not something he could challenge.
I think we used one on a KAT foul
I’m surprised they didn’t use it on that last KAT foul. That was insanely soft and Shai was hooking him
Even if you lose the challenge, do it just to show some support to KAT who was working his ass off all night on the boards..
Was at the game and was saying this. There were so many 50⁄50 where I understood why they didn’t challenge but that last one on KAT was the obvious place to use it.
They obviously should have used it there, except that there’s zero way that would have been overturned. Yes Shai, hooked him, but only after KAT put his arm out to block Shai’s path. It was lazy defense that was correctly called a foul.
Far cry from The Laptop
“Maybe’s KAT’s right
“always was”
He said it in such a sneaky way too. Not gonna get fined for complimenting the the other team’s guy…even if it’s a dig at the refs getting fooled.
They made him go full Chris Finch
Let’s wait until he’s being held back by 3 assistant coaches for trying to fight the entire officiating crew before we say he went “full” Chris Finch. Maybe like .33 Chris Finch
Macri - the guy that does Knicks film school podcast said the game was 5 on 8 - I’ve been listening to him for years, hundreds of post games and other podcasts… He NEVER ever mentions officiating or calls and whenever people send chats bringing it up he downplays it.
For him to mention it - you know it was bad.
I’ll watch KFS tomorrow. Yeah, Macri never complains about refs, so if he did tonight that’s meaningful.
If I’m trying to be completely impartial, I don’t think the entire game was unfairly officiating, but there were like 3-4 pivotal calls/non calls which dramatically shifted momentum
I think the main problem is SGA gets whistles almost every time, while obvious fouls from OKC aren’t
Shai only shot 7 free throws, we have gotten so soft that coaches are complaining about someone who shot 7 free throws and one was a technical foul that Shai took because he bitched about Shai getting fouled. What the fuck are we actually doing now it’s getting ridiculous. Y’all don’t want Shai to shoot one foul shot even if he gets fouled
Surface level take - fear of someone getting calls changes your whole defence and makes the game easier for the offence, in particular the player who you have to guard much softer than normal
Also doesn’t account for the refs not calling the times that SGA fouled. Or even deadball fouls. Anyone acting like Shai does not get one of, if not, thee most favorable whistles in the league either does not actually watch these games or they are being disingenuous
I mean he shot 7 FTS man. Against us this season I’ve seen players do much worse
and 1⁄7 came from a tech
for brown to say this whilst also ending the game with a challenge in hand is pretty ironic tbh
People always cry about fouls when the guy cooks the entire defense and they can’t do much.
The part you ignore is, all the players and coaches slightly criticizing this (including Brown here) are actually pointing out “can’t do much” part. You can’t be physical him because how he instantly will go for the call and get it, so you try not to do that. He proceeds to cook from there which of course still needs a MVP level skill and he is that. Two things can be true at the same time and foul numbers are not the story here.
You guys are honestly getting absurd now. He got 3 foul calls this entire game.
THREE. Brunson got more free throws than Shai. Was that because Shai was just getting open looks all game because the knicks were scared to play defense and “foul him”?
Not even close. Shai was trapped for most of the game and had to pass the ball away constantly. He didn’t attempt many shots because the defensive pressure was so heavy. And despite that, he only came out with 3 foul calls, one of which was on the other side of the floor during the bonus. Why? Because guarding him tightly does NOT mean he’s just going to foul bait.
I’m not sure how many foul calls you want him to get. Zero? It’s just ridiculous. I’m not saying he was being unfairly fouled or anything, but he definitely was receiving very physical coverage and the whistle could have been blown a lot more. And that’s fine, the Knicks played really good, but the absolute garbage narratives against Shai on social media need to stop. I just don’t understand how people can be so persistent in hating everything he does. Are he and the thunder that threatening?
You could move your feet fast enough to keep him out of the paint. He seems flat out quicker than the defender, and no one wants to focus on that, only on the call/non call in paint.
That quickness is how he gets legitimate calls. You get a step behind, and now you are out of legal guarding position, and the contact is a foul. They don’t want to admit that part.
He knows the nephews will be on his side so he let it fly. Story of our season
yea like another thing that pisses me off with Mike Brown is he’s complaining now but didn’t even challenge any of the calls during the game😂😂. Shit makes no sense
Yeah I actually would have challenged the foul on Shamet, cause I think Knicks were over the limit right ?
It’s just the age of no accountability on social media. You can complain about shit with zero real effort or intention and people will take you serious because they WANT to believe it.
For real. There were definite missed and questionable calls each way. The difference was Mark Dag used his challenges for a 4 point swing (one negating a charge for Knicks FTs and giving Thunder possession, the other negating Knicks possession and giving Dort FTs). Mike had several chances to do the same but held them too long. In a game this close it’s gotta be frustrating as a Knicks fan.
the front office hired a mf that got fired by four different teams and we thought the stripper would love us this time. this makes perfect sense - mike brown is just a fucking idiot, and he is going to be an idiot who says idiot things like this.
People still think that Chris Finch turned around the officiating against us for some reason.
He might’ve… In that game. Minnesota shot 47 free throws lmao
It’s hilarious when Knicks fans are telling all the fans crying from teams not in the game that they’re wrong.
Knicks fans are higher basketball IQ than most other NBA fans, in my experience.
you gotta really love ball to stick with the Knicks after all the years of suffering
It’s cause all the other teams fans didn’t actually watch the game and feel vindicated by Mike brown saying this.
Hell, one was a technical.
The really bad call in this game was the charge that brunson should’ve gotten in the first half. Otherwise, this was a hell of a physical game both ways. Not gonna bother pointing out who did what and when cause that’s not my point at all and it’s not like I’m an encyclopedic source.
I suppose arguably the Wiggins one too. That one was probably technically a foul, but it’s something that they could’ve let go as incidental.
I think Brown is just using a national TV game to try and get us some benefit of the doubt going into the playoffs. Everyone will remember the non charge and a few flops while forgetting you had 2 successful challenges. Just some gamesmanship to try and get us a little edge going into the post season.
I see that from New York’s perspective. I didn’t realize New York felt the calls didn’t go their way? My memory from last playoff is that Brunson was extremely criticized as well.
From our perspective, it’s a little irritating because SGA didn’t even do anything in this game besides commit a charge that wasn’t called. I guess you could argue the towns foul at the end, but his hand was in the cookie jar and he was already beat. Bad time to reach and SGA took advantage. Shit like that happens all over the league and always has.
Yeah look at Brunsons FTs per game. Very low for his volume, and he operates a lot in the paint. Brunson getting a good whistle is just a narrative really. It’s like how people complain so much about SGA but Luka is 10x worse.
I thought the game was poorly officiated in general, and nothing SGA did was a problem expect he probably should have had 3 in the first. Stupid national TV games where the refs do too much and try to manage the game. Even at the end with you having to use challenges.
Overall I think it’s like Finch earlier, a good spot for us to try and get a more favorable whistle. The real issue is when we play Detroit we need to get calls for how much they foul and I think this is just a push from Brown for that.
Don’t blame him at all. I’d say the same thing.
Love watching Brunson. Hoping to see you all in the finals!
Thank you. I’m watching some players literally jump on / hump dudes in the back and totally get a pass, while 7 FTAs is treated like the second coming of hitler. It’s so tiresome and lazy.
Then they say some stupid shit like “yeah now he gets so little FTs because people are scared to even go near him! 🤓☝️”, which is the biggest myth ever because if people were scared to touch him he’d drop 70 a night. He gets double teamed every game, he takes a lot of contact and still finishes without getting calls. But they don’t watch and if they do they’re blinded by their hatred.
Edit: case and point. Had plenty of down votes before up votes
I’ve seen players on your roster, our roster, and just about every other roster do much worse
Its honestly comical
“Fuck it, I already got the tech. Might as well get the fine too.”
He wont get the fine if he’s framing it as SGA being good this way lol
took one more free throw than Brunson.
one of which was a technical FT
That he didn’t think was worthy enough to challenge. Just completely unserious
He couldn’t challenge a no call, wdym
So 6-7 free throws came off no calls? Weird
Has 2 challenges and didn’t use a single one for any of the fouls on Shai. Should tell you everything you need to know. Just bitching to bitch at this point. It’s tiring
You replied to a comment about the tech FT, the tech he got on a play that he couldn’t challenge.
he averaged 3.4 more ft per game than Brunson..
Shai is 7th in points in the paint per game while Brunson is 48th
Not to mention Shai drives more and most of his offense is inside the arc
I can’t tell if this is defending SGA or not because JB is also a “tough cover”
Anything but holding you and/or your team accountable for just being outplayed
Why didn’t you challenge them tho?
You cant challenge a non-call.
“SGA convinces officials he’s getting hit”
“So why didn’t you challenge it”
“You can’t challenge a non-call”
So he shot 7 free throws off of no calls? I’m confused can you explain it for me
Read the quote again. He’s not talking about no-calls.
Bro what?
Challenges aren’t doing anything against Shai or most other foul baiters. The issue is that they are getting touched, it’s just not enough to actually affect a shot and wouldn’t be called if they didn’t flop. The refs are never overturning those.
Just once, I want one of these coaches to show which fouls SGA got in the matchup they disagree with specifically. Bring out an iPad and show us receipts.
They showed replays of just about every foul that resulted in FTs and I didn’t see one that was a bad call.
The no-call on the Brunson charge was the only part that I saw that was egregious.
I think we all know what happened the last time Mike Brown did this
It’s sort of the irony of the comment that it was actually non calls on OKC, and calls against the Knicks that cost the Knicks tonight, moreso than Shai getting free throws.
And I actually don’t really mind “flopping” as much as refs who fall for it.
I mean its not like didn’t Knicks get away with no calls too. There were multiple Shai drives where a defender was grabbing him or his jersey
Knicks also got the benefit of a decent amount of moving/illegal screen calls despite KAT and Hurkporti not setting the cleanest screens
I didn’t like the officiating nor was it very beneficial towards the Knicks but it was not nearly as one sided you’re trying to make it out to be
Saying that non-calls cost the Knicks the game is absolute nonsense.
KAT had 17 and 17 but was -18
Brunson is 5-18 from the field
Bridges 6-17 from the field
Hart is 4-11 from the field
OG is 6-17 from the field
The team is 16⁄22 from the free throw line.
It was a great game and the fact that Mike Brown says some shit about the refs and suddenly it’s “SGA foul bait lol” bullshit despite the fact that he got to the foul like 3 fucking times.
He shot 7 free throws btw. Maybe try and make shots next time
Obviously the thing he took exception to the most was Shai not getting called for his third foul early in the game, considering he got T’d up for it.
But his quote … has nothing to do with that?
That was a foul, and he has every right to be upset about that. But for him to go at the free throw merchant narrative directly is a bit of a whiff.
What does Doris think? Doris the long time savvy veteran, definitely knows ball
It looked like a foul to me.
His second foul was sooo dumb, you don’t normally see that from him.
Second one was pure frustration, dude blew Hart up for no reason. He already had to come out for 2, 3 would have been huge.
he’s calling shai a flopper. if he has a problem with non-calls, then maybe he should be talking about non-calls.
Should have praised them for not calling 6 fouls on OG and Mikal before the second quarter started.
Except it wouldn’t be that he convinced the refs he got hit it would be the opposite wouldn’t it? The way Browns phrasing it makes it sound like Shai isn’t getting touched but the problem was he touched too much. It’s two conflicting ideas, he just wants to complain because he lost a close game.
Finch 2: Electric Boogaloo
Sort of but Finch was actually crashing out over OKC’s defensive hacks, not SGA’s whistle.
This guy should probably watch the games instead of looking at the box score ……
Bro is saving his challenge for the next game 😭
The box score wouldn’t support what he’s saying either, maybe he’s reading too many comments from reddit nephews.
Here before 20k upvotes. To the top page we go.
Also 7 free throws this game btw
6* other one was a technical on Mike brown funnily enough.
i doubt it lol already more comments than upvotes
Saying this with brunson on his team is crazy
The guy who’s 21st in free throw attempts in the nba?
The guy who shot 1 FT less than SGA in this game?
In 1 single game? Lmao what a sample size! Why don’t we go based on the entire season ya moron
Because people on here are fixated on the most basic stat instead of looking at the bigger picture.
If you look at the bigger picture, you will see why players like SGA, Avdija, and Jalen Brown shoot more free throws than Jalen Brunson.
The coach is complaining about 1 single game though. We can get into it though. Who scores more in the paint? Who doesn’t take over 30 percent of the their FG attempts from 3? Who drives more?
Hes not even top 30 in scoring for a guy who specializes in driving, lay ups and floaters. The Brunson flops narrative was always stupid.
Do you know what statistics are?
I’m 100% convinced Brunson wears his hair like that because when he whips his head, the flailing hair makes every impact look more violent than it is.
I mean I have zero doubt it’s the reason.
Ok now I need FT number comparison of players with and without flailing hair.
It’s an actual reason why some wrestlers have long hair. It helps the selling.
Brunson averaged 3.4 fewer ft than SGA, why use him as example?
not really
You literally caused one of SGA’s 7 free throws you potato head.
Lol at him trying to find the right words to use without getting fined or calling SGA a flopper.
he gonna get fined regardless lol
Deservedly so. Complaining this much about what amounted to 6 FTAs (+ 1 off a tech), zero of which were challenged in game, is asinine and lazy.
If he was OKC coach he would be saying the same shit about Brunson. These guys are all so full of it
damn Shai must’ve shot like 10+ free throws right? right?…..
SGA was 9⁄16 from the field and shot 7 FTs (one a tech).
This was a pretty tame game for SGA brother
…and it’s real rich coming from the head coach of Jalen Brunson.
At least SGA only foul baits on one side of the court. Brunson is a menace on the rulebook no matter where he is. Head flips and nut grabs forever.
People in the league used to have more shame about whining like this
Yeah, these are some weakazz punks
Shai has turned the whole league into whining crybaby bitches, it’s actually pathetic to watch.
if they’re not fouls use a challenge lol
The way people talk about SGA, you’d think he’s shooting 5 more free throws per game than any other player. We didn’t play well enough to win, and honestly? We’re where we’re at because of the baseline talent level of this roster. So Mike Brown needs to introspect on his own coaching instead of blaming the refs.
I think he messed up by keeping Shamet out there with 5 fouls. He looked afraid to get his 6th and was pretty soft on defense. Should have brought Alvarado back in.
We didn’t lose this game because of the refs lmao. It’s annoying seeing this loser mentality from the team and coach and even some of our fans. Brunshot shot 5⁄18, Mikal 6⁄17, OG 6⁄17. KAT only got 8 field goal attempts despite playing his ass off and going 6⁄8. Josh only played 24 minutes and had more shot attempts than KAT.
OG had to take 13 3’s because he could barely dribble against these dudes, aside from the one ferocious dunk. And anyone expecting the mvp to get called for his 3rd foul in the 1st quarter of a nationally televised game must be new to nba basketball. You’ve gotta play through that shit and we did, but not featuring KAT more was ridiculous to me considering none of the starters were shooting well. Nothing from a refereeing standpoint was egregious besides that 1st quarter no-call.
Yeah when your team shoots 43% from the field, 28% from 3, 72% from the free throw line, idk if blaming the refs is the correct route.
There was a couple of stretches where I was watching like OMG please SOMEONE make a basket!
He only shot 7 free throws, holy cope
7 FTs: SGA 6 FTs: Brunson
Wasn’t one SGA one a tech?
Yep lmao, the real reason nothing will ever change in this league is cause no one actually gives a shit, they just don’t like things happening that makes them lose, if it’s for them its fine
Coach, you got Brunson lol
Players averaging more FTA/game than Jalen Brunson this season include:
Deni Avdija, James Harden, Paolo Banchero, Nikola Jokic, Devin Booker, Keyonte George, Jaylen Brown, Victor Wembanyama, Kawhi Leonard, Julius Randle, Kevin Durant, Tyrese Maxey, Pascal Siakam, Jerami Grant
what about him? Given his role and USG% I would’ve thought he averaged at least 8 FTA per game yet it’s only 5.8, SGA average is 9.2
6FT the 7th is tech. lol why He hopped on finch train
A good entertaining game and all you bots do is circlejerking over shit like this.
Brunson just staying quiet in the corner lol
Players averaging more FTA/game than Jalen Brunson this season include but are not limited to:
Only two (2) of these players drive the ball more times per game. (Guess where SGA is, since ppl keep bringing him up wherever I comment this. Hint: his FTA is higher than everyone listed)
The Brunson foulbaits narrative was always stupid, he takes charges maybe once a game and gets the reckless close-out foul cause people jump on him to block a 3.
Brunson in shambles that his coach says SGA is better.
The 6er fans calling out the floppers is funny.
In before 5k upvotes
I’ll do my part ✊
SGA shot 7 free throws.
Brunson shot 6.
Clown shit.
whoa whoa whoa.
One of SGA’s free throws was the tech so they actually had the same amount.
lol great point. Love the username btw. My first ever jersey
Got called out again for being a foul influencer. Free throw rate about to go down in the coming weeks.
He only shot 7 today lmao
Hey, it didn’t hinder him before, it won’t hinder him now lol
Mans even tried to game 2 FTs from his teammate.
lol Tim Legler called him out
How about tell players not to commit dumb fouls. Aside from the charging call in the first half what was so bad? KAT got fouled out for not bodying up SGA and using his arm in the 4th, OG also grabbed SGA arm in the 4th as he was gathering. There was worse calls in the game yet he talking about Shai lmao
He had 7 free throws lol. What are we doing here.
“Opposing team blames refs after yet another loss”
Was he saving his challenges for the next game then?
Ah yes cause Jalen Brunson doesn’t spend half the game trying to convince the refs he’s being fouled bringing the ball up
Maybe use your damn challenges then LMAO
Biggest nothingburger of a claim
What a loser lol
SGA took 7 FT’s all game lol
So salty. SGA shot one more FT than Brunson but didnt go 5⁄18 shooting lol.
Oh well.
and that extra FT was a tech
Well this is a powder keg of a topic point..
I assume after every win, Thunder fans just put on a helmet and flak jacket and wait for the assault
Every game, win or lose lol
According to this sub we haven’t won a fairly officiated game since 2024 lol
They did beat one of the worst fanbases to be fair so it’s gonna be extra toxic this go around.
I don’t watch Knicks games, based on the comments I thought he’s getting insane whistles. But just looked it up Brunson average 5.8 fta which is 3.4 less than SGA.. why are so many comments use Brunson against Brown’s comment?
Because Brunson has a reputation because one questionable play gets posted every 2 months so that highlight watchers can hold on to their opinion
Because the NBA is a highligh league and reputation is slow to change. Brunson averaged 8 FTA last year and had a couple bad highlights, especially in the playoffs.
Because alot of fans are really really dumb
I can’t take this seriously because he waited for the first missed call before throwing a hissy fit lmao. Came in to the game worked up and got angry. Get a grip. This shit is sad.
Bullshit You got Brunson.
Considering Brunson’s high usage rate, the fact he is top 10 in drives per game, all at 6’2… at this point he might need to go back to flopping school if he’s as egregious as people say. Cause clearly it’s not all that convincing
Welp surely these comments will be civil
Only vs the Knick’s is this circle jerk SGA FTA not wildly supported lmao.
Eh this and the charge will be the highest upvoted posts from this game, like clockwork
This just sounds like a sore loser.
14% of SGAs free throws were because you crashed out
😂 SGA had seven free throws all game Brunson had 6… what 🤡
So… Challenge then? You didn’t do it one time?
Mike Brown complaining with Brunson on his team.
Way this sub acts, that’s the first ever block/charge call that has ever been called incorrectly.
Meanwhile that shit literally happens every night across the league lmao
Mind you he bashes our team on complaining to the refs. Him talking about this is very eye opening
I want sga to get calls like everyone thinks he does. I want 12 freethrows minimum every game.
He when to the line 3 time and 1 as a technical foul wtf are you talking about..
Refs ruin the game. Lots of bad calls. That charge for SGA was so obvious.
Everyone is better than SGA until they have to play SGA.
He’s right tho. One of SGA’s best skills
6 free throws btw…
Lol sorry there are some teams in the league that are just not allowed to make this argument and the Knicks are one of em
The charge was the egregious *NO call to me.
As far as the refs, everything else felt like kind of a crapshoot tonight; they were all over the place. But I had more of an issue with Dort’s antics than anything else - as is usual
*edit
When does being a bitch cause for termination?
Coming from Mike Brown this is an absolutely scathing review of SGAs game. 😂
He didn’t challenge any plays for some reason
I thought he should have taken his chance on the KAT foul out. But he likeky loses.
Im not someone who cares about SGA FTs or his style of play. The KAT foul irked me slightly but nothing major.
I do find it funny this was what broke Mike Brown into a not so subtle subtle complaint lol
I would’ve challenged that shit too, KAT was an absolute monster this game, you take those. Especially that late in the game why not
Another Head Coach crash out, love to see it. Also, Jalen Brunson does the same shit and everyone knows it.
You can always challenge if you feel that way…
Saying anything to not take accountability for a loss
With this 7 free throws lol. Stfu loser lol.
Calmest complaining ever
Preach
The Thunder players flop to the court more than any team in the league. And refs like Acosta and Forte reflexively call fouls when players hit the floor.
That needs to change.
The amount of free throws he has isnt what he’s talking about. A defender cant cover him the same way as any other player cause of the way he exagerates movement from getting too close. Not even contact. Just being close. That in the NBA is an advantage Noone else in the league has. It’s cheap, but it works.
Broke the code
