Maybe pay better attention next time. If the refs communicate as such and Luka still complains, again, T him up. We have a way to keep players accountable with techs, we need a way for refs.
The reason teams do stuff like this is because Luka has shown that it works and it gets to him. All the whining does is make teams more likely to do it again. Make your free throws, then next time you get to the line, before you take the free throw you ask the ref to watch the lane violation because they’ve been doing it. Makes it more likely to get called in the future and you don’t look like a whiny bitch.

Just based on the success of the pitch clock in baseball, I wish the NBA would do something similar for FTs. As soon as the ref reports the foul at the table, 15 seconds to line up and shoot. If defense isn’t lined up, it’s automatically 1 point. If the offense isn’t lined up, it’s an auto miss. Something like that. These guys take SO LONG to just LINE UP. It’s worse than a middle school game. Free throws are such a drag on the flow and I’m convinced it’s because they take 3 to 4 times as long as they should.
Most likely some players use it as a stalling tactic to catch their breath a bit if there hasn’t been a whistle in a little while.
But they almost never call it. It happens on every play.

Yeah I wish the NBA between seasons one year took a good hard look at the rulebook, specifically all the things that are not commonly enforced and then decided which rules to scrap and which to keep. And then after that, no more excuses - the rules are the rules, and they always apply.
Because otherwise you open the door to this kind of situation, where a player can technically force a refs hand to enforce a rule that is never enforced (Hello CP3, wolves fans have not forgotten that stunt). It also would help get rid of bias or manipulation opportunities (and theories of it), because no longer can a ref just choose to apply a seldom-used rule. And I don’t think it would take as much adaptation if it’s done in the off-season and clearly communicated as a massive overhaul.
The other thing they should do is empower the replay center. Why does the local ref team need to hold final decision? What is this goofy let’s huddle up behind the monitor nonsense? Have the guys behind the multiple screens with all the angles at their fingertips make a (much faster) decision. Hell, allow them to check things like goaltends in real time and potentially change a ruling on the floor without it needing to be challenged.
