[Highlight] Victor Wembanyama catches the ball while running backwards in the paint, turns around and dunks it (with replays). NBC and Spurs commentaries
That might legit be the first person in history at that size to sprint backwards without stumbling over themselves.
Tbf his 6’9” dad was a track and field athlete. No wonder wemby is quick on his feet.
I just looked up to see if Wemby played soccer, figuring that was super popular in France and would explain the footwork. He did…as a goalie. The image of him stretching from post to post is amusing.
The only time he ever looked like a bumbling giant was when he was playing soccer in Costa Rica and attempted a bicycle kick.
He also nailed a top bins free kick in that same game guy is just insane
And the entire city of San Antonio held their collective breath when the video was posted.
that bicycle kick was in Japan not Costa Rica fyi
You think him playing soccer is impressive? Look at this - https://www.youtube.com/shorts/4K4VgwC83z4
I am 100% sure Spurs medical team had a panic attack after seeing it lol.
He a big boi
Seriously doesn’t look like a homosapien here lol
If Wemby played goalie in Hockey, do you think he could cover the entire goal?
He lacks width. Even with his exceptional height the problem for any human is that the width of the net (6 ft) is too much. With somebody as lanky as Wemby there’d be holes everywhere
Hijacking this to once again wonder if we will ever see an abnormally wide goalie suit up and completely block the goal. Would they change the rules?
We are talking about a guy who just anatomically fits (in normal pads) the size of the goal so perfectly that he just kind of slots right in there.
Chuck Ahrens reportedly measured 28inches from delt to delt. So I’m gonna guess goalie skill will be more important for even the widest of dudes.
But, he could cover it with constant movement like Patty Roy. (also French)
Patrick. Pis je t’invite à regarder une carte du monde…
Lol how does he get down to the ground quick enough for low shots???
Welp, according to his teammates (in the quite youth teams as he stopped quickly to focus on basketball), he wasn’t quite good at this goalkeeper thing.
Yeah I wonder if that’s why you don’t see more genetic freak looking goalies with long arms (even ones with quick reflexes, think Kevin Garnett or Kawhi Leonard)?
Thomas Bryant in shambles
Dog he’s like the 10th person ever to simply exist at that size.
Good god
alien
Alien Iverson
He is an alien, I can’t imagine if I will be next to him.
He hardly needs to jump lol. Fucking ridiculous
He can basically grip the rim standing. Probably only needs 3-4 inches to dunk.
Not basically, he can. I’ve got a picture from a game, he’s standing flat footed while holding the rim
Yeah, makes sense, Giannis can jump, grab the rim, and then land while holding it with it barely bent, so I assumed Wemby could easily do this flat-footed.
[deleted]
“Hes just as tall as the hoop its not that impressive” ok buddy
So you think Tacko Fall could do this?
I don’t see this team not steam rolling into a ring this season. I legit had a thought at the beginning of the year, “well wolves are not winning while Wemby is healthy,” and I fear it’s coming true
I appreciate it but chill out lol
Nah I hope I jinx it. Only chance we got 😭. Don’t hope Wemby gets injured but I hope yall implode
I think they are a going to sweep everyone in the playoffs. They will win every single game by 30 points and also Trump will live forever…
You had me in the first half, ngl
Anulo mufa
West is stacked, having to face okc or the spurs or both on the way to a ring is crazy
wolves are one of the best teams to counter the current spurs roster construction lol. While randle is horrible vs okc, he is incredible vs the spurs. Plus gobert is very good, given how every spurs guard is a weak 3 point shooter, and 2 out of 3 want to finish at the rim.
Vassell and champ are most certainly not weak 3pt shooters and fox is okay. All a little streaky but they’ve cleaned it up lately. The 2 worst shooters are castle and Harper, but they almost never play together and both are unreal at getting to the rim and creating looks for others so it’s not too bad.
I presume he meant just the top 3 guards, castle fox and harper.
That’s fair but even then only 2 are weak
Fox is shooting 34.6% this year. Not weak, but not great either
I can’t tell if you’re agreeing with me. I said he wasn’t weak, just okay.
Wasn’t really arguing, just giving better context
Vassell and Champ aren’t guards they almost exclusively play at the 3⁄4
There are most definitely minutes where 2 of castle, fox, and Harper are on the bench. I’m not quite sure who you think is filling those minutes at the 2?
Either way they’re at best the 4th and 5th options. Spurs definitely lack shooting from they best guys, they’ve just been so good in other departments that it hasnt mattered much
Gobert hasn’t been good against the spurs. They’ve been better with him off the floor, or when Wemby is not on the court.
That’s nonsense. Rudy has been good against the Spurs. Wemby is just better, and so we fare better when both Rudy and Wemby are off the court.
Didn’t we play recently and y’all got whooped ?
Not saying we didn’t, just saying the idea we’re better without Rudy is a clear tell you have no clue about our team
When Rudy is on the floor when Wemby is on the floor, the wolves aren’t good, but when Naz and Jaden play defacto 5, the wolves are like a plus20 against the spurs. Gobert has been benched in most fourth quarters against the spurs when Wemby is playing.
Randle defending wemby is the correct matchup for them
Whooped? Y’all won by 3 and had an insane 3 point shooting night. Y’all won but whooped is exaggerating.
I want the Spurs to go all the way obviously, but the playoffs are a different beast and our team is young and doesn’t have experience in that scenario. I hope they prove me wrong, but as long as they get a deep run this year to get some experience under them, I will be happy.
There’s certainly a few things that can hold them back. They’re not playoff tested yet, their shooters are inconsistent, Wemby’s stamina is still not great which could make long grueling playoff games a real test, and of course there’s always the possibly of injuries. They definitely have a legit shot with how they’ve had the number for other top teams this year, but it’s not at all inevitable.
Playoffs are a different game altogether. It’ll all come down to how all these young guys can quickly adapt
The knicks seem to have our number. If they make it to the championship it is going to be a WILD rematch of 1999.
Spurs have an awful winrate against great shooting teams, and at the moment they are supposed to face golden states or the suns in the first round…
The most casual 360 dunk…
It’s actually 540 from the catch to landing, but yes, the airtime is 360.
You can’t do that
“Foul! No… Two fouls!”
Alien
How do you do that without traveling either? Not this “I didn’t travel I gathered” stuff. Like he legitimately didn’t take any extra steps…. Just how?!
I don’t think it’s that impressive. You just have to be 7’6 with legs longer than the combined length of an octopus’, have generational athletic talent, solid hands, great court awareness, and also run backwards faster than some NBA players who are running forward.
He gets 2 steps and caught the ball about 12 feet from the rim, most people even without insane leg and arm length could turn and traverse that distance in 2 steps to make a layup without travelling or dribbling, though of course most couldn’t do this while doing a reverse dunk from the side of the rim.
Man I miss that scorebug
I know it must be nostalgia but I feel like it looks better 😭
I think they should throw it on for Throwback Tuesdays. At least for this whole season.
I personally think it’s better, it’s less noisy and tells you only what you need to know and that’s it
Maybe represent 24 shot clock by the feathers in peacock change to lighter colors from left to right. Or not.
So damn ethical
Monks trained his balance well
When the season was starting I was cautious about Wemby and didn’t want the pressure to overtake his development or lead him down a path to more minutes and injuries.
But damn he’s got some coordinated special.
Nothing you can do against that.
Two great dicks
Doug Collins didn’t miss a beat tonight. I miss him.
I thought, “maybe I should watch one of their games” then IMMEDIATELY saw the foul baiting by the 76ers and remembered that NBA games are about as enjoyable to watch as a traffic jam
It’s like me dunking on my kids on a 7 foot rim. It’s just not fair.
Shouldda been and 1, too.
People complain about Wemby flopping but he gets obviously fouled with no call constantly like in this play. He flops because refs screw him over when he doesn’t
Bro
That’s not fair lol
Lmao that is fucking OP
Looks like a normal person dunking on a 7foot rim.
Well, that’s encouraging.
I really want him to be injury free for a long long time.
Effortless 👏
Lmfao what the hell man
Wemby is definitely an alien
Isn’t there some NBA rule against alien life forms playing in the league?
What the hell was that??
The league is his…
Not really a strength related post, but wemby is definitely bulking up, look at those shoulders.
That boys and girls is the definition of dexterity
WR1
is it just me or last night did it feel like we had bob, mike, and doug in our living rooms watching the game and reminiscing the good times?
Teeeeeeeeexas Tornado
Not the point of the video but they brought back the 98 nba on nbc crew with the scorebug, good touch!
And one - arm slap.
AND 1
NBC: MY GOD WE’VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT, WHAT A FREAK OF NATURE
Spurs: he’s done better, he’s legs were too straight
Dont get me wrong, I like Wemby but being tall is the skill in this clip. The NBA rim is to him is like the average Joe on a Fisher Price rim
Wilt 2.0
What’s he doing in the game up 40?
can i just say this is not aesthetically pleasing at all? like i’m sorry but it does not look good lmao
