Victor Wembanyama is selected as NBA Western Conference Player of the Month
22.5 Points/11.3 Rbs/3.5 blocks per game on 29MPG with an 11-0 record in February.
0-1 in March. He’s washed.
If only this was a leap year…
There’s always next (next) year
3.5 blocks a game is wild
Especially when you throw in the fact thatcher’s at least another 5 times where people either pass out of shots, or turn it over because they’re afraid to shoot.
Plus he’s never scared to margaret you at the rim.
Wemby’s the real Iron Lady
He winston of games.
There’s a good “cherchez/Churchill” pun somewhere in there, but I’m too lazy to find it
chamberlain would be a slam dunk
You’re really good at this lol
Pure unicorn
So may people undervalue defense and only care about PRA it’s sad
Just look at people’s opinions of Rudy Gobert as an example. His team has been in the WCF 2 years in a row now.
And they play like garbage without him as well
Meanwhile on the front page, people are meme-ing Gobert for saying his teammates are bad at passing the ball to him.
Tbf he has horrible hands but that shows how important defense is. He’s ass on offense but defensively he causes so much issues for the opposing team you’re willing to play basically 4 on 5 on offense
Yup. We’re literally bottom 5 or top 5 defense with or without him.
He can’t shoot, pass or dribble the basketball. He’s a good defender but it’s clearly due to his height, which is something he didn’t have to work for. Is it really that shocking that people that actually like the game don’t think highly of him?
If being a great defender is just because of height why does sengun suck at it
What’s Sengun’s wingspan compared to Gobert’s? Guess I should’ve added that to the original comment
Why is he a better defender than almost every other center his size in history then ?
Not many guys in history that can nearly grab the rim from the floor like he can, so it’s not an especially long list. He deserves credit for being able to move his feet, but you know damn well he’d be way less effective if he was an undersized center
Well if my grandma has wheels she’s be a bike.
Doesn’t really change that everyone passed and rode her around town
Victor did definately have a slump for a lot of Feb though. He was not playing at the same level he was in January or December.
Slumped just the last 2 games on offense, he was so much better in February than January despite a huge drop in 3PT shooting (36 to 30%) wich is the big reason for the 1.1PPG drop.
Otherwise he had better TS% and rebound, over double the assist numbers and 50% more block and steals. 25.9 NET RTG (#1), 125.9 OFF (#2), 100 DEF (#3).
Tail end of the RRT, Knicks game was their 8th straight road game.
He must be really missing whatever kind of supersized bed he’s got at home in San Antonio.
Whats funny is he could have Points high too if he spammed 30 shots a game like the other stars do.
You type this as if he’s some efficient god lmao
[deleted]
what do you mean he’s shooting 70%? because his fg%, ts%, efg%, or even 2p% has never been that high, also hes only been in the league for 3 years, so who are you even talking about? can’t be wemby
gobert isn’t mentioned in the thread you replied to genius, so you may wanna fix that while you’re trying to act high and mighty 🤦♂️
????? The comment being replied to is literally about gobert? Are you just stupid?
Like seriously do you not know how to read?or interpret comments? Like I don’t get how you can be that dumb lmao
no it’s not, the comment you replied to said that wemby wasn’t efficient, theirs literally no point where the thread we are responding in mentions gobert. the original comment says that people only care about pra, the next comment says wemby could average more if he shot more, then the next comment says he’s not super efficient, and then theirs your comment. you can’t read.
No im typing it as, he doesn’t take 30 shots a game. You dont need to be efficient to have higher ppg with 30 shots EX: cade cunningham whos worse efficiently but has higher season ppg, or jaylen brown last month, or hell even Luka doncic this season.
He shoots 16 FGA and 7 FTA in under 30 minutes. Thats a lot of fuckin shots. Jokic is at 18 FGA and 8 FTA and scores more easily while both player center with insane spacing
But not nearly as much as the others i mentioned and you just compared to obviously the most efficient and arguably top 3 best offensive player ever wow what a standard.
Not to mention his counting stats are still really good. Especially given the fact he is under 30MPG
Feel like people miss that point the most. He is currently averaging less playing time than both his rookie and sophomore seasons. He’s still putting up numbers though
Which is why Scottie Barnes > your favourite inefficient scoring guard.
it’s only because he’s tall and handsome
Btw in French, Victor is Latin for “winner”
English as well
Btw in French, Victor is Latin for “winner” in English
Stupid sexy wemby
This is true.
I wouldn’t know from experience, but that’s what I’ve heard.
Defensive player of the Months as well.
Big dic vic in the hisi
Deserved
Well deserved 11-0 February record
I just so desperately want him to stay healthy and completely dominate the league. Such a fun player to watch. And it would be cool to watch the like undisputed goat for his whole career
Because of his sophisticated jump ball technique
First time he wins it I think
Well deserved!
Have we ever seen one team sweep every monthly award before? Spurs got (western) coach of the month, player of the month, rookie of the month, and defensive player of the month.
Ant averaged 30-5-4 on near 70% true shooting at 7-4 wemby won all 11 though
Ant played really well and I wouldn’t scoff if he did get it, but defensively, Wemby has been unstoppable. Ant’s offense is incredible, but I do think that the 11-0 record and the lockdown defense is what won it for Wemby.
Not to discredit ant cause he was fantastic all month, but he wasn’t even close to 70% true shooting
You mean you wouldn’t round 60.1 TS% up to 70?
Ant might be 7-4 but Wemby is 7’5
260
Wemby’s defense evens it out to me, and the record like you pointed out gives him the edge
What’s his FG% this month
I really hoped that It would be Kawhi
With a 5-6 record? Ain’t happening
defense doesn’t matter obviously
22.5 11 and 3.5 blocks with a massive net rating improvement when hes on the court for his team and 11-0
Grayson Allen played 6 games
He got it because defense. Box score ain’t everything
I have to disagree with this. Yeah, his scoring wasn’t as good, but he didn’t get it because his team was better. Wemby also averaged 3.5 blocks and 11.3 rebounds last month. His offensive game wasn’t the best, but his impact is crazy. Personally, I do think he played better than Kawhi or Ant, even though they balled like crazy too.
Also, do you know WHY the Spurs were the best team? It’s probably because of, you know, him.
Edit: Come on, man. Don’t delete your comment just because it got a few downvotes. Stand by your hot take. “Top 1% Commenter” by the way.
Record always plays an important part in these selections. But even without that there’s more to player performance than ppg…
Just a pro tip going forward, player of the month has virtually nothing to do with “who was the best player this month”
only cuz the spurs record
“Only because hes freakishly good at basketball”
He was the best player on the best team in February, what is confusing?
Ok?
that’s usually how it’s chosen
…do…do yous not know that team record always factors into these awards? You must be new to the game
Should have been a King eh?
