Vince Carter at age 49 shooting from half court like it’s nothing
Vince Carter, YOU are a Detroit Piston
Mfers cut the clip before the makings of a banger edit
The dress shirt is what makes this impressive
If it’s tailored/MTM he’ll have plenty of mobility
I’ve shot a ball in a tailored dress shirt. It’s not easy. I guess he was untucked which helps
Guess it wasn’t tailored to shoot a basketball then.
Rookie mistake. I have all my suits feature tear-off sleeves in case a surprise game of horse ever comes my way.
this is false
It’s always so funny to me that on Reddit if you are in your 40s or 50s you are on death’s door. Of course this is a cool shot but it’s not impressive because of his age.
The players retire from the NBA because they can’t do NBA things anymore. So people recognize when older players do these things.
The death’s door thing might be a you thing.
Vince was like 44 playing 15 mpg for the hawks.
Sometimes even if you can do it, it just ain’t worth the paycheck
He could do a clean 360 in his 40s. He’s arguably the GOAT athlete in NBA history outside of LeBron
Shooting practice is not solely an NBA thing.
Shooting practice in an NBA arena is most definitely an NBA thing.
Why, is the court bigger?
You have anything to actually say? Because you aren’t so far.
Yeah. Shooting half-court shots is extremely common. Not unique to NBA players.
You need me to dumb it down or something?
But why are you making that point when I never declared it was solely NBA or unique to NBA players?
Because you used this argument to explain why this is notable lmfao.
I know what I posted. I’m asking you how does an NBA player not being able to do NBA things equate to shooting from half solely or uniquely being an NBA thing?
My point is that this isn’t an age thing, which is implied by the OP. He will easily be able to do this at 59 because that’s still not that old. The impressive part is how casual he makes it look while wearing a dress shirt, not because he’s 49.
Player’s retire because they can’t play an entire season/playoff anymore. Unless they’re completely out of shape by then(Vince is still in good shape), then they can still do a shot/dunk/dribble/etc. in spurts.
Dell Curry for example, is 60 and has been out of the game a lot longer than Vince and he made a shot not long ago.
So they can’t play in the NBA anymore. Thanks.
Can’t do NBA things like dunk over people.
I know people way older than Vince who have a smooth shot
I know people who can dunk over other people.
It’s hilarious that so many of you keep making an argument I didn’t allude to.
The NBA things aren’t usually referring to standstill jumpshots tho. It’s the speed, cardio, lateral movement, cutting, dunking that starts fading.
They most definitely are in that setting. That’s why you see Luka and Steph get as much coverage as they do when they take these shots.
That’s why they have that shot in the skills challenge for example.
The angle you folks are choosing to take here is wild.
Im not sure what point youre making, we’re just pointing out that 49 is in no way a surprising age to be shooting jumpers, its common from older guys in pickup. If Vince Carter could only be asked to stand in the corner and shoot open jumpers off passes, he could be in the league right now - but obviously you have to do way more than that to be on the court, which is where the age thing comes into play.
“The players retire from the NBA because they can’t do NBA things anymore. So people recognize when older players do these things.
The death’s door thing might be a you thing.”
Yes. I understand what you’re saying. It has fck all to do with my comment. Because I didn’t make it sound like anything more than what it was.
I simply pointed out that people perk up when they see NBA players do NBA things. The reason I said “NBA things” is because we don’t know Vince from playing in the YMCA. We know Vince from shooting threes in the NBA as an NBA player.
This really shouldn’t be so hard.
“If Vince Carter could only be asked….”
Who are you talking to? Why did you decide to create all this nonsense? I wasn’t making a point….i was making an observation.
I dont need the quotes, I know what you said. What we’re simply saying is of the “nba things” players retire because they can no longer do, standstill jumpers are not the things people are thinking of. Retired players will tell you their jumpshot is the last thing to go. Vince Carter did not retire due to an inability to hit jumpshots.
So your retort is to again argue something I’m not saying. This is awesome.
You might need even more quotes. Because you aren’t actually engaging with anything I posted. You’re making up an argument for some reason. You added a LOT.
I am arguing what you’re saying, you seem to be detached from the flow of conversation. People are questioning what’s the point of the age in the title, when this is not surprising from someone that age. Then you come in saying, well people are always impressed when retired players can do NBA things… OK?? and we’re not filing standstill jumpshots under that in the context of a 50 year old. Its an impressive shot, but its not impressive because of his age. If this was 49 year old Vince doing a 360 dunk, people wouldn’t be questioning the title, a jumpshot is a different story. Youre not engaging with the context of the comments.
So you’re questioning the OP use of his age by responding to me?
Ok bye
Contest Sponsors: “Sorry, his foot crossed the line. Best we can do is $2.00 off a slice of pizza at the concession stand.”
Doing this with a dress shirt makes it more impressive
49? I swear he retired 4 years ago
I mean he retired at 43, 6 years in June. You’re not that far off, COVID got us all messed up.
His last game was right before Covid lockdown broke. Saw him play in person that year. Crazy
2020? 2 years ago. 2015? 5 years ago. 2010? 10 years ago. 2000? 10 years ago. 1990? 15 years ago? 1980? 70 years ago.
“Yo ref, his shirt’s untucked!”
Half man half amazing
Half court
Like how Monica Belluci or Sofia Vergara still looks amazing at 50. Genes and a healthy lifestyle goes a long way
I’ve seen enough, bring him back for the dunk contest. Honey Dip 2
49 isn’t that old. I got 60 year old friends who could shoot from half court. Not with Vince’s accuracy, but 49 is not exactly broken down forever body age.
2 motion jumpers from half is ridiculous for any age
I agree, but putting up some half court heaves like they’re nothing is not insane. We’re not all weak babies just because we’re in our 40s.
The funny thing is from what I hear practices can get insane with these kind of shots with money on the line these dude make shots like that at a stupid level without a hand in thier face.
I just remember a reporter for a team saying that like half court shots are nothing for these dudes if you actually watched a practice
That’s my GOAT
He retired like last year lol
makes sense, he’s only 2 years since retiring
He would hit these type of shots constantly when he was on the Nets. My favorite player of all time.
I feel like the old people now (49 isn’t that old tbf) are way more spry than they use to be. A 70yo guy I was working with was still able to jump up and down off a 4 foot platform with ease
Shit is too funny. People really somehow think that your body breaks down and is unusable the minute you hit 40. Especially with a guy that was a professional athlete.
Sure it’s not the peak, but come on now. Dude is shooting balls in an empty gym.
Half man half amazing.
That was the name of an And1 streetballer and Kenny Smith stole it and gave it to Vince.
Which streetballer do you refer to? Anthony Heyward?
Vince Carter is the reason I became a nets fan. I was a basketball fan as a young kid but never had a team or favorite player until I saw him in NJ. 01/08/2006 he hit a game winning fuck you 3 in an insane game against Toronto. years later he had the OT ending in bound reverse dunk to again beat the Raptors. Long story short, love Carter, favorite player ever. Also fuck the Raptors lol
Elite shooter
Remember he was Top 7 3pt shooter when he retired, dude was shooting 30 ft bombs in the 2000s
It’s more impressive that his form doesn’t change that much. A little more push from the lower body but otherwise it’s a natural jumpshot form for him which shows how strong he is.
Him and Arenas were the first to do these shots on the regular in game. Dan Majerle did it a bit with the suns but those two made it part of their regular arsenal and then Curry made it popular.
He became a good shooter once his knees started to go. Guess jumping over 7footers for a dozen or so years will do that to you
He was always a good shooter my dude. He was shooting 40% from deep his second year In the league. 41% on five shots a game third year. It just became all he did after his knees went but he was a great shooter early
Shit I guess all those dunks kinda skew my memory but that’s an outrageous clip for somebody who’s known more as drive first
Bro.. 49 is young
Also he was a pro athlete his whole life.. really ain’t that deep
