The common call the people attribute to ‘over the back’ is a push, or contact to the back while a player is going for a rebound, and that’s how the referees report the foul. But verticality exists, you’re allowed to out-jump someone for the ball, even if it’s over their back, as long as you don’t foul them.

The amount of times I got called on this when I out jumped the guy and didnt push him. I thought they had the rule because the guy you’re behind cant see you and you can smack it out of his hands easy as the ball comes down, kinda like a DB does to a WR in football

It’s not an actual foul in high school or college basketball (not 100% positive about the NBA). The correct call is a push, but you can go “over the back” as long as you don’t go through someone.

100% Even at the beginning the clip, Jokic is complaining about George grabbing his legs when establishing position. If George doesn’t do that, Jokic pretty easily steps inside and moves him out of the way. A no call was fair. It looked weird in real time. But if we are calling a foul, it was a foul on George.
