I was banned from another sub once for saying “just think about what kind of person voluntarily becomes a reddit mod.” That was it. I was permanently banned from that sub because “it was a personal attack against the mods and mods have feelings too.”

If my guess about their policy decision is accurate, despite my annoyances with it, I think it is an imperfect but defensible one. It’s reasonable to say that the threshold for a post here has to be higher than a tweet even from a notable figure, and the results from that thread a few months back showed a pretty conclusive large contingent of users who still supported the ban and wanted to keep it in place. There’s not a perfect solution that will make everyone happy.

A mod did respond to my feedback in that thread I referenced a few months back and clarified a few things which I did appreciate and helps me understand what they’re doing now. The radio silence I’m referring to is any time I’ve ever tried to ask a question via modmail and I think I only tried maybe 2 or 3 times about some minor issue before feeling like there was no point.

Lastly, in defense of the automod, it does annoyingly limit contributions and remove false positives, but by its nature we don’t see the garbage it filtered out, nor does it make sense for the mods to publish all the rules so spammers can circumvent it. Ideally there’d be some way for users to troubleshoot their contributions with the mods. From the update by the OP in this post, I assume the problem was that bitly links get auto removed, which makes sense to me as security measure.

a bit of a mod secret is at least from my time as a mod on another sub was that we just didnt like how low effort they were and so they were removed during that removal wave as an excuse.

I think the growth of Reddit and stagnation of the wider internet is to blame tbh. For a lot of fanbases, team subs are the only forums with meaningful engagement, so you get a lot of people who just want to scream into the void or vent because there’s basically no where else they can go.

I also think Reddit has trended younger, so it sometimes feels like a middle school lunch table because the posters are actual middle schoolers

Actually this is why you have mods that don’t respond to users. All of the mods and powerusers worth a damn left after that “useless boycott” because they lost the tools they used to moderate and post content effectively, including third party apps. This is why you have a single person “mrbuckbuck” filling the sub, which many would argue is a negative. And this is why you have mods not responding to you. The good mods left when everyone told them to shut up and mod, and the good users providing content left because their avenue of releasing said content gained extra steps, making it not worth the effort.

Honestly reddit was going to go forward with the API changes regardless of the community outcry, so it WAS actually useless, but the end result of those changes have 1000% made reddit a worse place to scroll.

Yeah I was going to say, the NFL sub is somehow worse. The only posts that are allowed are highlights and Twitter posts.
