For some reason, the Bobcats specifically always played the Lakers tough. In 08-09 if you include the playoffs and the Lakers 81-24 record that year, the Bobcats are the only team that the Lakers didn’t beat(0-2), while the Blazers are the only other team(1-2) that the Lakers didn’t at least split the season series.

Trae should have been All-NBA last year over Harden and he played most of last season hurt. Johnson was looking like he was a in for a big leap which he did make. Risacher had a very good second half so there were reasonable expectations. Porzingis wasn’t expected to play 65 games but he appeared healthier than what ended up happening. They had a very well rounded roster and were really only a wing or guard away from being a legitimate contender in the East on paper. They still had 1 seed upside.
But Trae got hurt and then traded for 10 cents on the dollar. Risacher has been awful. Daniels completely forgot how to shoot (I think Trae not playing is actually a big part why those two things happened). KP’s health was even worse than expected.
There’s a universe where this Hawks team is at the top of the conference with Trae/Daniels/Risacher/Johnson/KP starting and Okongwu and NAW leading the bench unit.
Sources tell me Atlanta Hawks’ team owner is Thanos, he prefers a more balanced approach

The team with Kuminga is significantly better than it was before. We have two Wizards games and a depleted Blazers team as an example, but Kuminga + Risacher going to the bench just patched the gaping hole in our defense through 48 minutes and we have too much size and length for a lot of teams to deal with in both the starting lineup and the bench. Risacher and Kuminga are both athletic enough defenders, effectively covering 1.5 guys each, that we can get away with playing Jock Landale in drop without getting punished. Works even better when Gabe Vincent (or NAW or Dyson obviously) is on the floor and providing POA defense next to Risacher.
Landale grabs boards while Risacher and Kuminga box out (or grab the boards themselves) and Gabe, Jalen, Dyson, Kuminga, CJ, or NAW organize the offense.
Again, two Wizards games and the Blazers, but Kuminga and Risacher have a net rating of +44 in their limited minutes togerher. You can tell when you are watching it if you are a freak for defense, but it’s an awesome amount of athleticism, length, rebounding, and defense generally for a bench unit. Which means they constantly get out in transition and Kuminga is apparently a demon in the open floor. Pretty awesome.
