Cam would be a good fit, but I’m not sure he really fits the timeline? Ultimately, the Mavs trading for AD kind of established that they have no real intention to contend in the near term.

nah nico vision still there, 2-3 years of contention then re-tool and contend again in 2029 (or 2028 deadline) and beyond. just make sure all vets contract end that year so mavs have max cap space when antman/maxey/hali FA (or lamelo/vassell or jaden mcdaniels, etc). it’s feasible if they take care of their cap book

kyrie, christie, cam johnson, flagg, lively, flemings/mikel brown, naji, pj, gafford, middleton, bagley

on paper still great 11 men rotation and this is mavs still not using full non-tax MLE (16m guy for example like antsimons/sexton)

then in 2029 you only have flagg (48m cap hold), with just christie, lively, top 7 pick this draft, and maybe PJ in 200m cap space

Brother Mavs aren’t going to be contenders for at least the next 3-4 years at minimum. Too many good teams in the conference in their prime or just entering it. Team is about to go on a full on rebuild around coop. It could be accelerated, but I don’t see Mavs trying hard to contend.

Yes you don’t own your picks but l I feel like Mavs will still operate more like a rebuilding team than one trying to compete for a chip like person im responding to says. I see the Mavs maybe trading off a few vets for draft capital or absorbing a bad contract from a team for draft capital.

They won’t flat out tank but I see no way Mavs try and compete for the chip given their lack of resources.
