[Scotto] The Golden State Warriors have signed Gui Santos to multi-year extension, team says.
It’s a 3 three-year, $15 million contract extension with the franchise according to Shams
Could’ve easily gotten more if he just played out the season, huge win for the dubs
Maybe, maybe not. Restricted free agency is a tough spot to be in, also guys in Santos’ spot who haven’t shown much until the last few months before RFA don’t necessarily make a ton. Remember Ty Jerome and how little the Cavs paid for him?
Jerome never consistently played the minutes Gui’s getting and he ended up with a contract twice this
What a steal
Great contract for team. He’s amazing for 5/y
Love what he brings and excited to see him develop
Warriors got our Gui
Warriors 2nd round picks have been a wild success. First round picks not so much.
Moody seems to be finding his stride(at least from how he has perfomed as a streamer on fantasy) and is going to be an above average 14th pick. It’s really just Wiseman that was a complete bust. Even if Kuminga didn’t pan out as well as other picks, he was fine at 7 too.
Warrior fans have been very slow to catch on to the idea that Moody is legit because it has been simpler to just group them all together and dismiss the entire thing.
He’s a lot better than he looks in fantasy because he’s turned into a strong defender, think Kerr mentioned the other day he rates as one of the top pick and roll defenders in the NBA this season. He also has a very high matchup difficulty, defense is actually his stronger end.
I’ve always like Moody because of his defense, but haven’t watched a lot of non-Ratpors games this year to see how he has been doing. Sometimes guys can put up crazy fantasy stats but be a net negative on the floor, so I wasn’t sure how well he was actually playing. Granted, he has been getting a lot of playing time this year, rather than being randomly benched like he was earlier in his career.
It’s been interesting to watch Moody in the context of all the other “second timeline”-ers, because he’s just been quietly growing into a very competent role player, while everyone else from that group was pretty sure they should be stars and flamed out.
Podz (2023), trade for Wiggins in 2020 (2024) trade for Jimmy last year (2025). Id say the last 3 first round picks have been a net positive.
Marginally ok players mid to late round doesn’t make up for massive failures at cornerstone high lottery picks. Wiseman and JK were fireable offenses. but instead MDJ got promoted for his dumb ass scouting and Bob is going to the hall of fame
Kuminga was absolutely not a ‘fireable offense’. His development has been stunted due to…well, due to Kerr really– but he has the tools to absolutely be worth spending a late lottery pick gamble.
If Kuminga makes anything of himself in the NBA it will be because of Kerr’s repeated attempts to try to get him to play in a way more conducive to winning. He got plenty of opportunity on the Warriors.
Not to mention, if Santos has developed so much under Kerr while being shelved (for Kuminga) in his first few seasons, what excuse would Kuminga have?
Kuminga and Wiseman together was a fireable offense tbh. And Kuminga does not have those tools, he cannot dribble or shoot.
Yea blah blah.. you dumbasses on the warriors sub still think wiseman and jk are mvp level players if our stupid top 5 coach of all time listened to the nephews on the sub. The only thing that matters is results and they were horrible picks
Agreed. As a fan of the warriors since the cohan years, its hilarious to me people saying steve kerr stunted jks growth when all kerr wanted jk to do is play defense and score off ball as a third option on offense. Guy literally couldnt do that yet fans act like kerr didnt give him a chance. Its hilarious.
Still wish jk all the luck moving forward, but dude was a horrible fit next to steph.
Weren’t Wiseman and JK Lacob’s guys?

Steph was picked 17 years ago under a completely different regime
Still counts.
I think kuminga is good and will be. I think it just was either not a good fit on the dubs, and/or the dubs managed it all poorly.
As a Brazilian I am very happy for him
Vai caralhooooo
He’s a beast, and has a relentlessly positive attitude. We love him.
5m a year feels like an underpay with the way he’s been growing the past couple months
My first reaction to this comment was “really? Gui isn’t that good, last I saw” so I looked up his stats the last few games and nah, yeah, he’s been balling. Great numbers. We pay Patrick Williams 18 million a year for comparable-ish numbers. I’d rather have Gui than Pat, AND he’s significantly cheaper. Great deal for the Warriors here.
He might have gotten more but not a terrible deal for him too. Considering he’s a late 2nd rounder and spent a ton of time in the g-league I can see why he took this now.
Lock up generational money today and become a free agent right at the time he’s entering his prime(if he continues to develop) with a player option in case things don’t pan out.
I can’t blame him at all. It’s relatively small for an NBA contract, but that can support a family for a long while. It’s good for both parties here.
Couldn’t have said it better plus he could be staring at 70-100m dollar contract in a few years if he continues to grow the way he has been.
I don’t even think people have seen his ability on ball to its fullest yet this year. He’s a PG that got moved into the 3⁄4 and occasionally 5 spot since he joined. Good rebounder, versatile defender, can create for others, high energy, and can hit a 3.
Kerrs been putting him at point lately for small spurts and I think that could be a X factor for this team. He’s looked really good and natural while creating for himself with the ball as well.
Yeah, Gui used to be more of a hustle guy who could make a three. He was put into a bigger role after Jimmy’s injury and he was encouraged to drive more and he’s been looking a lot more comfortable with the ball in his hands.
Yeah I agree. I thought he could easily get 10 a year with how he’s been playing.
Gotta love when good young players take a team friendly deal and buy in
It’s a steal of a contract
Steal of a contract. Dude looks like he should be the starting 4 going forward. Him, Moody, and Richard look like cornerstone role players going forward (and Podz is good as well and he seems to be figuring stuff out).
Since Jimmy went down Santos has stepped up in such a huge way. what a great success story for the 2nd round pick
Atta boy Gui! He’s been a delight to watch this season.
He’s been very good lately. February splits, 15-6-4 on .69 TS% in 30 mpg.
Love this, let’s fucking go
Man, MDJ really got a killer deal on Gui. I’m excited he’s staying a Warrior for the next 3-years.
Let’s go
Huge
Easiest decision ever, he’s been great.
Huge upward swing lately, guy looks legit. Athletic, shoots it, competes like crazy, seems to have good feel too the more he gets to play. Wouldn’t be surprised if he turns into a major contributor.
So stoked!
Gui is great and the warriors are lucky to sign him for that deal
CHAMA
Love it.
