Of course he is, he’s an elite rim protector who also hits threes. Getting 20+ boards is icing on the cake.
17⁄9 on 65% ts is not too shabby, especially with the 2 blocks.
The stats do show it. Please clown on him on his real offensive shortcomings, but his impact is very clear. And on those games his offense is actually there, he looks ridiculous
If he did nothing but block and rebound, he’d be on winning teams his entire career. The fact he is a 2 level scorer is just a cherry on top.
I’m always kinda confused by the idea that you have to look beyond his box score stats. Is he supposed to be averaging 25 and 10? Even at Gonzaga that wasn’t the kind of player he was

Nah he put up some rough offensive numbers earlier this week (but still like a +30 on/off) earlier this week
Sure, but Chet puts up 17.2 points per game to Wemby’s 23.7. On similar minutes. Wemby gets more assists too, and is generally a more versatile scorer.
Both have offense as their weaker side, but Wemby is a couple of steps ahead of Chet for sure.

During his rookie year I decided to actually look up contests and he was second in the league. Think he was getting 12 a game and was second, Gobert was first with 15 I think which is insane

His ability to contest, land, and get back up to contest again is freakishly good. He had a sequence the other night where he blocked a guy, the guy rebounded the ball and chet chased the guy out to the 3pt line, guy tried to take him off the dribble and chet stuffed him again. His control to make those second efforts is wild.

Chet is never the primary defender on Jokic because Mark Daigneault is not an idiot. He would get put in the weight room on literally every play and/or get snapped in half like a twig. Hartenstein and JWill are the ones who get the Jokic assignment

He’s been an absolute force on the defensive end all season. The rim protection and rebounding combo is rare for a rookie.

Thats not Chet at least not atm he is a world class defensive anchor and a good-great play finisher on a team with the MVP and a guy many wanted to push into top 15 of the league and another guard who would have been solidly in the 6moty convo had he not been injured that’s exactly what we need him to be

He was absolutely everywhere on the glass tonight, those 21 boards are insane for his frame.
Dominated the boards and locked down the paint. Jokic really struggles to score in the paint when Chet is roaming to help. We’re fortunate to have JayWill, iHart and Caruso all be able to defend Jokic super well to allow Chet to serve as help.

DPOY seems like it will be Wemby and Chet for multiple years, depending mainly on which one actually makes it to 65 games.

Out rebounding Joker is a massive accomplishment especially for Chet who historically hasn’t been a good rebounder for someone his height
I think he’s getting better. He hasn’t added on significant weight, but he just seems more aggressive on the boards lately.
