Brian Windhorst believes Kon will score 70 in a game one day: “Not this year, but down the line”
Kon with a green light. Windhorst with a gaslight š
āļøāļø
Brian used to have a big chip on his shoulder, until he ate it.
āGuy who can knock down some 3āsā
Only needs 20+ 3ās lol
I could see 50 but 70 is incredibly hard unless the team around you is trash and you can consistently create your own offense
I mean you as a Hornets Fan should know that the Trash team is the lesser problem here, historically
I mean, Klay got 60 as a third option
70s have become a lot more common in the NBA as of recent, guys who are very good but not top 5 players have gotten it like Book, Mitchell, Lillard etc.
It will take an incredible hot streak but itās certainly possible.
Itās not just a hot streak needed. You need the game to be close or they will likely sit the 4th
You definitely need outside factors to go your way to get 70.
Book, Mitchell, Lillard
The difference is those guys can all consistently create their own shot off the dribble, against the best defenders in the league.
Not saying that Kon canāt or wonāt develop, but heās a lot closer to a Klay archetype than one of those dominant on-ball guys. Youāre prolly not going to get to 70 without a real threat of the drive and/or a real threat of getting to the FT line.
Im obviously a big fan of book but that 70 point game was a little inflated to say the least.
Mitchell’s came in OT too so while I think it counts I view it differently than like Lukas.
No matter what 70 is 70 and a crazy impressive feat but usually when its the not top 5 guys like you said there’s some extra crazy circumstances that need to happen on top of you being on a heater.
Fair enough
I mean obviously anything is possible but it would just be a very small chance. Weāve seen guys like Malachi Flynn randomly drop 50. All it takes is one lucky night where everything clicks but I donāt get the point of imagining 0.001% chance scenarios
I donāt get the point of imagining 0.001% chance scenarios
I also didnāt enjoy the Giannis trade rumors.
Klay took 33 shots that game, which was as many as the other 4 starters took combined.
They wanted him to get 60.
He wasnāt a third option that game (rightfully so)
Ofc 70 is harder than 50 but I get what heās saying here. Hes great and can shoot so well
It only takes 1 game and out of everyoneās odds in the next 10 years I could see him being near the top tbh
If Malachi Flynn and Saddiq Bey got a 50 piece for us, Kon has the chops to get 60-70.
I could see it tho. It would be like the Klay 60 point game with a couple of off the bounce shots.
I could see him having a season high scoring for a game in the NBA, and not being top 5 in scoring on the season. Just a game with bad defense and played very fast.
Last game of the season, their playoff spot is locked into the top 6, and he’s trying to become the first rookie to make 300 3s in a season. Coach just sends him out and let’s him jack up shots.
According to Statmuse, there are 5 active players who have a 70+ point game:
Damian Lillard
Joel Embiid
Devin Booker
Luka Doncic
Donovan Mitchell
Only 10 players scored 70+ in history. 50 or even 60+ is very much possible, but 70 is extremely unlikely even if you are a generational player, even players like Steph, Harden, or Lebron never managed to do it
Embiid can always say he scored 70 on Wemby.
The fact that Steph has never done it tells me that Kon probably won’t either.
Iām not saying he isnāt capable of it but when, as in this clip, we are talking about who will do it first, keep in mind that Cooper Flag has already scored nearly 50 in a game (49 points on 69% shooting).
Kon is never doing this, but having watched that coop game it would not be easy for him to get more looks in a game than he did that game lol
How does he think of this stuff?
Its not impossible but why believing in this is outrageous.
It’s just a silly thing to predict this for anybody. Lebron hasn’t done it, Steph hasn’t done it, Durant hasn’t done it, SGA hasn’t done it, Giannis hasn’t done it…
Correct. However Mitchell has, Booker has, Luka has⦠didnāt embiid get exceptionally close? I donāt watch Phili at all so I canāt fully remember lol.
All that to say that it is doable, and showcasing who hasnāt done it doesnāt really prove or disprove anything as worse players than those you mentioned have done it.
I feel like players that build their brand off offensive consistency like SGA and Durant have the lowest chances of getting it done, Steph and Bron too to an extent.
It is a bit crazy that Steph hasnāt done it tbh
Hasnāt there been a few games where Steph likely couldāve gotten it but sat the whole 4th or something like that
Klay easily in the 3rd quarter game vs SAC and his 60 pt game in 29 min. Stephās higher scoring games he typically played in the 4th. There are a lot of high 30 and 40 point games, but his 50 & 60 point games come mostly when heās putting the whole team on his back.
Always felt like during peak Steph years, GSW was pulling their starters by the end of the 3rd quarter
idk why the downvotes, except for maybe steph this makes sense hence the weird āconsistent ā. sga for example if he needs 32 4 & 6 to win then hes gonna give you something around there. same with kd and bron (known for floating around 27 7 & 7 for all those years)
steph is the only wild card that will get hot and just start letting it fly. but he plays for kerr so heāll also get taken out the game seemly at random esp if the lead looks safe
Itās just a meaningless TV segment man
You guys know why š
You guys know whyte
He’s sitting next to Kendrick Perkins on an NBA hot take show
I believe Windhorst one day wonāt spew garbage
Windhorst honestly gets too much hate heās better than the large majority of commentators of ESPN. The jazz āwhy is thatā is objectively a great moment
what is wrong with having this belief
70 points but how many dribbles
35.
Too silly. High 50s definitely possible though. For context, Curry’s highest scoring game was 62.
Also in this clip they are talking about who will do it first/next and Cooper Flagg has already scored 49 points (15 more than Knueppel) when he set the NBA record for most points by a teenager.
It’s possible in the modern jack 3 offenses in the NBA
But Kon seems more like someone who shoots the shots given by the defense…not someone looking to hog the ball the whole game just to score a lot of points
Considering Klayās career high is 60, Kon has a long way to go before Iād believe he makes it to 70.
Thereās been 13(10 different players) 70pt games in the history of the league. Every one of those guys who isnāt named Wilt is one of the most talented triple threat scorers weāve seen and also took an obscene amount of volume to get there.
Personally, I donāt think as of now Kon has the kind of high usage skill set needed to get that many shots up. Charlotte is also a deep roster of offensive talent which spreads the shots even more right now.
Charlotte is also a deep roster of offensive talent which spreads the shots even more right now.
God this is weird to read
4 guys averaging 18ppg+ and another at 14ppg is a nice problem to have though. You guys have been fun to watch offensively for the last few seasons to be honest.
The early Lamelo years with Hayward, Scary Terry, plumlee, PJ, Bridges and Jalen mcdaniels was really fun. I feel like for the last 5-6 years charlotte has had awesome offensive wing depth.
That’s trueĀ
Fully agree. But just want to footnote the Klay stat, he did that in 3 quarters. Really too bad Kerr didnāt let him keep going.
this is hard to imagine because Kon is so smart and picky with his shot selection that if he were pacing for 70 we are probably belting the absolute ass of whoever we are facing lol. I’d imagine Miller or LaMelo doing it before Kon because they are uh..less selective with their shooting
Yeah, anyone saying this just hasn’t watched him play. There’s a certain level of greed or desperation to hoist enough for 70. Kon just isn’t that type of player. He’s a very smart shooter, but the second teams key in on him to prevent a 70 burger he’s taking the smart play and passing. There’s just no way.
you honestly canāt score 70 unless youāre getting to the line a ton. stops the game a lot
Are they going to attack him and say the game is broken when if he does - like they did with Luka?
Devin Booker did so I donāt see why not
If the Hornets cannot become good again, they could go the Devin Booker 70 point game route one time and just feed Kon every time in a loss.
But for Charlotteās sake Iām hoping they become a playoff team again where winning matters more than individual stats
Iām not even into the whole race thing but this is getting weird. Simmons, now windhorst. Like holy shit we get it
If he’s half as good as Klay Thompson, it can happen. 60 in 29 minutes.
If he has developed into the team’s first option, and the opponent he’d play that night can’t guard…sure
But it will be awhile before he gets there
Windy had a few too many coffees, this is a very āover caffeinatedā take
He’s not selfish enough to do that. He would rather have 30 on 80% than a 50 on 40%, at least how it looks to me
TAMPERING!! š
No one is steph but heās the next Klay Thompson / Ray Allen level shooter. Could absolutely drop 60+ in a game one day.
I definitely see him having some career nights, 50-60 point range.
But getting to 70 is for truly elite scorers, not just elite shooters. Looking back, the best shooters in the game havenāt hit 70 (Steph, Klay, Ray Allen).
Anything is possible in the modern NBA
They boutta give him the keys and Melo will be gone
But this is a crazy glaze take.
Let’s just get to 35 first lmao
the great white hope
espn guys are going to be glazing him nonstop now
Just sayin anything
Lfglfglfg
Not if Lamelo has anything to say about it lol
reddit in their feelings over a valid take again š¤£
The year is 2033. Defense is effectively illegal, Adam Silver has implemented the new 4 point line presented by Coinbase, and Kon has his first 70 point game in a 156-152 loss
Didn’t KG said Jordan Poole was gonna do 60?
Has that happened yet?
If Hornets make him the franchise guyĀ
I think there’s zero chance he does, you need pad out those games with free throws. You would need an absurd make rate to do it with mostly threes.
Iām here for it! I love big predictions like this.
The reaction to this statement just shows people hate Brian lol. Saying a nearly transcendent sharpshooting rookie averaging 20 a game might eventually drop 70 isnāt that insane.
When only 10 dudes have done it in NBA history.. yeah sounds stupid
They are being asked who they think will/could be next. Itās not like he came out and randomly said āKon WILL drop 70ā. Itās a slightly outside the box guess that makes a lot of sense when you really think about it. People are acting like itās the most ridiculous basketball take theyāve ever heard lmao.
Not shitting on Windy but the reason why KD, Shai, Curry,⦠etc are efficient shooters like Kon that havenāt reached the 70 is kinda because they donāt chuck. I think Cade, Wemby and Flagg have more chance to reach 70 that Kon ever has
I didnāt even know who āKonā wasā¦
He is a 1 trick pony. His ceiling is fucking Tray Young.
this 1 one weird trick that gets you 9% higher than Trae Youngs career 3pt average at higher volumer than Trae Young has ever shot in any season in his career
