Wemby was asked how the Spurs are trying to block out the noise of people saying they are one of the favorites to win the title: “You’re the first one to tell me about it. So to block out that noise, can you take away his mic?”
Wemby got jokes
He’s got everything and I fucking hate it
I’ve been watching him since he was 16 and even I can’t believe it. Dude is like a perfect person. Because of that he’ll get hate when they start winning (maybe even this year) but I’m standing on that even if I’m a glazer. Extremely tall athletic high IQ in basketball and out funny cool. Fuck him
Every once in a while you come across a person that has so much talent and the character to make it work, and it really makes you realize that some people are just born better. Not even just genetically, some people are born in the right place, at the right time, with the right amount of money, and with the right parents or role model to make them the best. Makes you think, maybe I was too, and I just haven’t found that thing yet. Or maybe I was born to put the fries in the bag. But hey, someone’s gotta do it, we can’t all be Wemby
You could be the fry guy that puts extra in the bag my man, don’t let rules stop you from being great!
Legitimately great reply. Not everyone can be a superstar, but anyone can be a great role player.
Unfortunately, our society shits on role players.
Wasn’t expecting some pure real life inspiration from this sub today but here we are
Our strength is in our differences. The world wouldn’t work without people putting fries in bags.
I certainly wouldn’t!
Maybe you’re the Wemby of fast food workers
Thanks bro
Sir, this is a Wembys.
Dave’s Triple Double
Putting fried in a bag = holding a job.
Holding a job is objectively a good thing for you, keep it up.
The Great Man theory
Donald Glover aka childish Gambino is that guy for me dude just talented all around and it’s not fair
Some of us are Wemby, some of us work at Wendy’s
I wish I were more like Tyrese Maxey…in like every way.
Sounds like you can be a great “Wendy’s” (employee) though
He seems like a balanced individual and at the very top of professional sports - hell the very top of anything - that’s difficult to be when you have to give up so much of your childhood to get there.
Im a suns fan, but I follow spurs because of Wemby (idgaf), but the only reason I see him getting hate is that people might think he is being fake.
Thinking Wemby is fake is such a telling POV.
Either they’re a child, highly distrustful and pessimistic, or the type of person to believe the greatest evil perpetrated by humanity was their middle school teachers forcing them to read books.
He will also get hate because fans of other stars will feel threatened. There are some people out there that feel the need to tear down others to prop up their favorite player.
I was a Showtime fan and I rooted against Bird since his Indiana St team took out Moncrief and my hawgs in the NCAA but I never “hated” Larry Legend. I thought is there anybody I truly despise? Instantly, I thought: Bill Laimbeer and Karl Malone. F those guys.
Curry gets hate from LeBron stans. And residual Warriors hate.
lol he gets hate from OKC/SGA fans
Literally God gave him everything one could ask for in exchange for making him Fr*nch
we Americans could learn a few things from them… they don’t put up with bullshit from their government.. they get out and shut everything down and get their demands met
At some point you need to stop making these stupid jokes. Especially when the hate was forced by your government when we refused to join the war in Irak (look how it turned out…)
don’t forget extremely well spoken, well educated, and well diversed internationally.
respectful and proper manners.
he reads more books than most college professors
well diversed
?
Well, he’s a Nike athlete and his sponsor is some crypto shit. He’s not that perfect. Saying this as a spurs fan.
Yeah but Chet has that FIBA U19 World Cup MVP and Wemby absolutely hates him because of it
Can Chet even read without sounding out every word?
Probably. He’s from Minnesota, they have pretty good education up there
Lmaoo real
Eileen Gu type of s*** Why can’t we be trash in peace without those people triggering us
She’s fr next level. 1580 SAT, Stanford, model, gold medal Olympian..
still awaiting her response to the dm i sent just the other day
I dm’d first bro lay off
put your dukes up i got nothing to lose
I debated against a girl in high school who showed up to a couple debates a year and won the whole thing every time. We always chatted a bit because we were both outgoing and not outwardly super nerdy in an environment with lots of people who stuck to their own circles. She she would prepare on the bus ride there and was just doing it to seem well rounded. She was like 5’11, gorgeous and won prom queen. She was also the setter on their 2x state champion volleyball team and told me at one of the debate tournaments several of the top volleyball schools were recruiting her. Instead, she went to MIT, then to medical school at Harvard.
I heard from someone at her school at some point that she helped lead worship at her church and was an incredible singer.
Some people really do have it all. Except maybe a partner. We are friends on the socials, and I don’t think she’s been in a relationship that’s lasted more than a few months and we’re in our mid-thirties now. To be fair, she’s going to have to settle because she’s a mile outside the league of any regular dude.
It is really hard to meet your match when you’re that well-rounded
Idk that’s kind of one of the points of elite schools. If she was at MIT and Harvard for a decade, sort of a skill issue not to find any1 because she was surrounded by plenty of absurdly impressive people
The yin to my yang, perfectly balanced.
Kinda makes you feel shitty seeing people like her and Alysa Liu so well put together and with healthy mindsets at their ages
It’s all meaningless at the end of the day, no point comparing yourself to other people’s journeys. Enjoy the fruits of your labour
Thanks, trying to get that stuck in my head lol.
Another thing worth noting is that the best thing you can do for yourself is try to build your self-identity around things that aren’t a competition. Something that happens with kids all the time (not calling you a kid, just talking about kids because I’m a teacher) is that they frame so much of their view of themselves on whatever they’re good at.
I try to tell them to stop doing that because it’s very unlikely that one day they won’t run into someone better. The kid in the school who is the absolute best, 0.1% level good at say, art, is going to go to art school. And what happens if he’s “really good at drawing” and then suddenly he’s surrounded by all the other 0.1% level artists?
It happens with a lot of kids who are “good at math” too, they get to Calc or Calc 2 and struggle for the first time, and they have no idea what to do with themselves. And even for people like Wemby, he’ll always be rich, which is great. But if his identity was “I am the best basketball player” well, one day he won’t be.
But you (and he) can always be kind. Or funny. Or goofy. Or someone who works hard. One of the easiest ways to avoid falling into the trap of comparing up is to build your identity around these qualities. It makes it much, much, much easier to be super happy for people like Alysa Liu or Wemby.
Sorry for the unsolicited advice.
No need to apologize, thanks for writing all that out in a logical way to fight the illogical thoughts :)
Try to read some passages from Ecclesiastes, it helped me to reframe how I thought about my own journey and how to appreciate it.
Tbf didn’t Liu have to take time off and really reshape the way she felt about skating because of the terrible relationship and mental health burden her situation had created?
“He’s got everything, and we’ve got him”
old white guy talking about Bart Connor in the movie Rad
I’m watching him Monday against my Knicks and I’m so excited and scared at the same time haha
Soon enough the haters are gonna call him arrogant and pretentious
he could get your girl
but he would never do that
unless you’re curry
not even on my team and i love it
it’s cool to see such potential and development heh
Try being the team that got the 2nd overall pick 😭
2nd language at 20…bro this guy is impressive
Why is this mf Wendy so perfect, Good looking, wise, wealthy, tall, strong, long ass meat, and charismatic. It’s insane but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say he’s the face of the league rn
bro had to throw that one in
At least he isn’t Stephen A Smith talking about Wemby’s girth.
Imagine your meat just being long
Are we sure he wasn’t saying long ASS meat, like he got a long ass
Feels like something you need to pay a woodswitch with gold coins, for a glass bottled tincture that works as a cure for, in DND or something
Long Ass is a pox on this village
Considering he’s 16’ tall, his ass is probably longer than most.
His ass longer than my back!
Google longmint9 thank me later
Don’t get me salivating
Yeah, bro isnt tall.
Yeah bros in the nba we already know he’s wealthy he didn’t need to say it
I’d say hes pretty charismatic.
Charismatic?
Ser Arlan of Basketball
Sir this is a Wemby’s
…..fuck me, but this is hilarious, and I have a feeling im gonna hate reading that one constantly, 10 years from now
You’ve verified ALL of those?
Hands on approach
He has extra fabric which allows him to jump further
Ayooo hol up
Are we sure he’s tall?
Emphasis on stretch
his ass meat is pretty long
He got a stacked bussy
Long ass what? LONG ASS WHATT???????
bro thought he could slip that in and we wouldnt notice
Aside from the meat thing I agree. He’s so amazing at the game and has a perfect mindset. The game of basketball is so lucky to have him
We aren’t setting aside the meat
We want the whole load
Ima need verification on that one
Pause
All the Latinas in San Antonio would go to war for him lmao, he’s the perfect man in their eyes
It helps that Wemby looks like a giant churro.
Address me
long ass meat
Wait….
Long ass meat 😂😂

lol dude I love Wemby quotes.
I love Derek Fisher with 0.4 seconds left. (I’m jealous of you)
the clock didn’t start!
On one hand, I don’t think he actually got it off in .4 seconds. On the other hand, the clock ran too long on that prior insane Tim Duncan shot, so two wrongs kind of made a right
I love Manu devouring Harden’s soul jokes!
For as great as we have had it we have had to watch some painful ass shots go in against us..
I love that time when u missed 27 straight 3s, since we’re bringing up old shit
It’s cool. We all got moments. Lillard literally cost me money after he sent everyone home. Nobody in Houston wanted to be out that night.
why am i imagining the sunglasses dropping down and thug life music/lettering pop on right after he talks
Thats a classic journalist questions: “Dumb People said this and this bad thing about you, what do you think about it?”
He blocked that perfectly.
Yes.. so bad. So incredibly bad for anybody to say they’re one of the title favorites.
he said they’re favorites?
Why would you post something so heinous. 🙉🙈
God damn you Wemby. Stop being likable. You’re supposed to be a jerk and make it easy for me to hate 😭
The spurs constantly churn out un-hateable, if not out’n’out likeable stars. It’s an insane 3 decades long superpower
They’re the worst 🙄
Their newest Rookie Carter Bryant was born in a family that has deaf grandparents, so half of the entire day they would only speak sign language to each other. He is also greatly involved with the deaf community. Him picking up on non-verbal language is also why his defense is great on the court as he has mastered the non-verbal reads. It’s so hard to hate them lol
did not know that, pretty cool!
Man Carter Bryant and Dylan Harper seem like such good dudes. The young kids are alright.
Kawhi is pretty unlikeable especially in part because of how he acted towards yall. These nephews forget but he was being a diva for no reason.
Except he was completely likable when he was actually playing for the Spurs.
Yeah he was, but he was still churned out by yall, KD was super likable too before he left okc, and changed his entire persona to lose his “good guy” image, which really did nothing long term but make him seem really insecure.
Just being a stickler loll, I agree with you, yall have a great org. The Thunder are great because they’re Kobe to the spurs MJ organization wise.
Presti learned everything with the Spurs. He was the one that drafted Tony Parker for us
For all the dick moves he has pulled Kawhi is still pretty likable
who dafuq this, uncle dennis?
all mah 🥷s hate kawhi
See…..they got rid of him
The spurs are good enough to cut bait and not have a sunk cost moment
Oh there were many rea$ons if you catch my drift
The crazy thing is, before all the shit went down, Kawhi was essentially seen as the “protypical Spur”. Quiet, humble, and coachable. A team player that was willing to operate in the system. Fuck uncle Dennis.
It’s Popovich. It was always Popovich.
Harper and Castle are both amazing also. Off the court as well, both extremely likable imo
Only guy I disliked was Dejounte, and of course he hated on the Spurs so I guess that checks out
I trust in nba fandom to turn on seemingly dominant teams eventually (it always happens - as they did to OKC/SGA in the most recent example).
If Spurs sustain their excellence for multiple years, emerging as perennial title favorites, we will see Wemby hate flood this forum.
Nobody ever turned on the spurs, it varies. GSW were WAY more liked than hated until the kd move, LeBron heatles were way more hated than LeBron Cavs, MJ Bulls and Shaqobe lakers were way more liked than hated. Bad boys pistons were villains showtime lakers and bird Celtics were rivals but both much more liked than the former league and nationwide.
Idk why OKC got so much hate even before they won, maybe it just seemed unfair that they got another really good team super fast and well they play physical defense and those teams usually aren’t as popular.
Nobody ever turned on the spurs
This is so true. They never won back to back, but bulls, pistons, my lakers, Heat, GSW more recently all had plenty of haters.
I think it helps that only, what, Bruce Bowen was the only real POS on the Spurs? Otherwise they had dull, but non-offensive superstars and played ethical, free-range hoops.
Also helps to have Pop.
OKC knocked out Jokic who was this sub’s golden boy. They also play very physical/borderline dirty defense which will always be unpopular after you see your favourite player get mugged a lot
Also it really ramped up in the finals because the Pacers were so likeable and were underdogs
I honestly think the NBA spamming those commercials with Thunder players as much as they did is a significant factor in why they get so much hate. It felt like I was seeing it every commercial break and sometimes multiple times in the same commercial break.
To say nobody is kinda crazy lol there’s billions of people
Not from me. I’ve been rooting for Wemby to win DPOY since he entered the league and was bitterly disappointed by how the deep vein thrombosis cut last season short for him. I’m hoping that this season will prove to be a case of “third time’s the charm” and hope he at least meets my personal championship over/under (3) before it’s all said and done.
That mic looks so hilariously small in his hand lmao
I want to believe they can do it but history has proven that it’s almost impossible for them to win being that young and especially as a team that didn’t even make the playoffs last year
history has also proven that 7’6 guys cant play like guards
sometimes history is wrong
As ever, there’s a relevant xkcd.
relevant long-ass xkcd
relevant long ass-xkcd
bol bol erneh
This shit is something Wemby would say
historically actually shows it’s plenty possible for them to make the Finals. It’s the winning the title that’s the tough part, but we’ve seen lots of examples of young ass teams make the Finals like 23 year old Shaq/Penny, 22 year old LeBron, 22-23 year old Durant/Westbrook/Harden, 24 year old Tatum, etc. Kobe was being carried by Shaq, but he was only 21 when he made his first Finals.
This is why I actually came into this season thinking the Spurs were being massively underrated. When you have generational superstar talent, they are commonly playing at that superstar level by age 23 and once that switch flips (regardless of supporting cast) they start winning a LOT (60+ wins) way sooner than you think. He’s right around the age LeBron was when he first made the Finals.
Duncan was 23 and only in his 2nd season when he won the title. Magic Johnson was 20 and in his first season when he won a title. Of course, both of them had help. Bird won in his 2nd season and is a good example where the team went from 29 to 61 wins overnight once a superstar started superstarring.
To add another, D Wade was only year 3 & like 24 when he won his first title
That was a Team with a lotta vets though
Magic was playing with Kareem his first year & Duncan was playing with David Robinson, they were still listed examples
I thought the Spurs were massively underrated coming into the season with the “maybe they can make the play in or top 6 takes” because Wemby missed half the season due to non-basketball injury and Fox basically played 3 weeks with a mangeled pinky on his shooting hand.
No way did I expect Castle would make the leap on offense or defense which would lead to us having 3 elite ball handling guards. Kornet also really shored up our bench defense, which was a DISASTER when Wemby was out last year.
He made some questionable coaching decisions earlier in the season, but Mitch Johnson deserves Coach of the Year buzz for having the team bought into their roles (Devin as the 3rd or 4 option, Barnes and Keldon off the bench, the 3 guard rotation) and developing young talent WHILE winning
Top 6 was very valid, Wemby said at the start top 6 was the goal
What’s this “finals” you speak of?
It sounds hideous
But “making” it to the finals sounds like they were the 2nd best team. And usually, they’re NOT. There are plenty of examples of teams making the Finals with no chance of winning it all. They just come from the weaker conference.
If a team beats them it’s gonna be because they are better not because they are more experienced. What history actually says is more experienced teams also tend to be better because it took years to build up to be better. It’s only nowadays that teams can jump from lottery to playoff deep-runner in 2 or 3 yrs.
What does history say about a 7’6” guy moving and shooting like this guy tho
The current NBA champion is younger on average than the Spurs, including by playtime.
Not even worried about it. If not this season (OKC will come out of the West once healthy) we will have more opportunities in the coming year. Harper is very underrated this season beyond the box score.
This long ass alien really trynna be my new fav player rn
He has it. The game the look the personality and the charisma. MVP talks in his 3rd year. This is the new face of the league. It’s going to suk when he starts threatening legacies and they start the hate train.
Dont forget the long ass meat
“G I R T H.” -Steven A. Smith.
lmao
This a 2k press conference lol?
Face of the League
Hes so likable atm that I know 100% for sure I will hate him within a few years
He’s just so damn likeable. He and Ohtani both have moments where they’re both just big ol’ golden retriever goofballls.
That’s my franchise player!
He seems like such a likable dude. But I’m an OKC fan…. How do I exist?!?!?
Easily? You just won a ship bro Jesus christ
The deadpan look on his face is always funny
My fantasy team about to lose because you wanna be funny this week btw
Sassy alien.
Does Victor Wembanyama sounds like a real person to you? Grow up, it’s Roger.
The thank you lmao 😭
And he’s charming!
A classy dude!
He’s a terrific interview. Always entertaining!
I’m glad more NBA players are able to handle press BS a lot better. They don’t have to take what they’re told on the spot as the truth and readily question it or toss it out as BS. It’s really tough to have to be “on” all the time so you don’t caught in some controversy. And of course if you’re really good at blocking it out like LeBron you get hate for that too. Lose lose.
“Guards, seize him” type shi
Wemby my savior.
i need a conversation between Wemby and Mazzulla, feel like their brands of weird would mesh together in a very entertaining way
He’s going to be such a great ambassador for basketball as a whole.
Nah I really like him. Great dude, very intelligent
Defenestrate him.
He hit that shit a little too effortlessly
Look at the size of that fuckin mitt
I really like this kid
Haha fatality
And he actually had them take it, lmaooooo 😆 🤣 what a legend 👏🏾
That is actually a great comeback
