[Highlight] Austin Reaves misses the potential game-tying 3 on the buzzer and the Suns win!
He missed but that’s a great play out of timeout. Had a great look
Funny to see a bunch of people dump on JJ for not subbing out Luka on the previous possession. This was a great offensive set and play call right after
Absolutely.
I disagree.
It ended up being a clean look but that might be one of the stupidest ways you could possibly try to generate one.
You don’t throw a cross court pass through traffic to initiate your action. That’s basketball 101. That kind of pass hangs in the air forever, gives the defense time to rotate, and risks a turnover before you even get into the set. Even if it works once, it’s low IQ process
This is an absolute shit take and you should honestly be embarrassed that you just said this in public.
The reason this play works is exactly because it is such a difficult pass to make and the furthest point from the inbound. Defenses don’t expect that pass to be made. Of course it is high risk, but if was also clearly high reward considering they got one of the most wide open looks you’ll ever see on a 0.9 second inbound.
Just because it worked doesn’t mean it was the smartest option.
On a 0.9 second inbound, the priority should be speed and simplicity. A cross court pass is the longest, riskiest pass you can throw in that situation. It hangs in the air, increases the chance of a tip or bad catch.
Calling it “high risk, high reward” doesn’t automatically make it good process. Late game design is usually about minimizing variables, not adding them. Clearly you’re more impressed with the execution than you are concerned with whether it was fundamentally sound.
It’s not an uncommon play.
OG hit the game winner in game 3 against the Celtics with a similar pass in 2020. Ingram missed with a similar pass just a few days ago against the Spurs.
If you can get the scramble to work and set up an open shooter on the far side, it’s not ineffective to lob a pass up. You’re not throwing a pass through traffic, you’re throwing over traffic, you throw high enough nobody can steal it. Defenses aren’t going to have time to rotate while a ball is in the air, this is a catch and shoot situation, if you get open, you’re open. Saying defenses will rotate to cover the open man while the ball is in the air is ridiculous, it took 1 second from getting out of the inbounder’s hands into AR’s. Both your points make no sense.
The real issue with this kind of action is that it takes so long to set up. If the defense switches well or the screens are weak, you’re fucked, all your eggs are in one basket. Another big issue is the lob is high difficulty, timing and accuracy needs to be perfect.
End of the day, it resulted in an open shot and while it’s not always the play, it works when needed
That was a nice play
At least he got a shot up
Honestly it was an incredible draw up he just missed it
Probably a hard shot to make with that much backpedaling
Back peddling when you need a 3 with only 0.9 seconds on the shot clock It was a great freaking play and a great shot in that situation he just missed
unless you’re ray allen
Marcus Smart is Amazing
Sexy ass ATO play though lmao
That was my exact thought even after the miss. Can’t believe a cross court pass with AR’s back turned actually turned out to be a well executed play. if only AR finished that
Fully expected it to go in
Atleast JJ dialed it up for a guy who will actually take the shot
This wouldve hit harder if luka sold again lol
great play by JJ damn lol
Holy fuck thats actually a beautiful play design
Incredible play design, sucks it didn’t go in
most obvious first round exit team ever
I don’t even think we survive the play-in at this point. These guys hate playing with each other.
Nahh most obvious play in exit team ever
Lakers would default if they could. They want LeBron and his loser kid out so they can sign people to play defense.
Tell me something I don’t know captain obvious
That’s impossible.
!How do they surpass the 2024 or 2025 Lakers in this manner?!<
What a fuckin play wow
No lie that was a great play call… It’s hilarious how JJ can draw up plays like this and the play that got Luka the open 3 last game… but then never run any actual sets in the half court
Incredible ATO play from JJ. Reaves won’t get a much better look than that
Gotta make that shot , just got too Reaves.
Nah this team is fucking ass, how are we supposed to win anything?!
Worst team in the NBA.
Edit: I’m being hyperbolic as shit right now
Worst team that isn’t actively trying to lose probably
Lakers are just sad at this point.
Honestly man, getting fried by Collin Gillespie and Greyson Allen means someone’s gotta get fired
Totally agree.
You hush your mouth. The angry Anglo twins have spoken
Nasty play. Sad brick
You just lost to the Emergency Room Suns
By 2030 players will have to learn routes for clutch inbound plays
Yeah he missed it, but damn that was a nice play
LeStraightToTheLockerRoom
Perfectly drawn play, great pass to set it up just missed ggs
never seen an ATO play like that, i’m erect.
fuck the lakers btw
Lakers are bitch made.
this is a well designed play by JJ. LeBron knew exactly he was moving his own defender in the way of the switched man on AR and he got a clear look
Another dominAyton classic game too
Sick inbound by Smart though
Nice play
Gotta let Dominayton take that.
Yo buck buck post the weakest flagrant of all time just called in the wolves game great example of modern refs
