More impactful than Wemby honestly. He was phenomenal individually but Spurs had a bottom three record in the league with the same exact record (22-60) as they did the previous season. Kon is ultra efficient and fills a role for the hornets that was previously unoccupied - which is the big difference maker

You shouldn’t have, but it’s understandable if you don’t watch college ball. Flagg was the best player at Duke, but Kon was the glue guy on that team. He did a little bit of everything and he pretty much ran their offense. He’s got good size, has a high motor, is a great passer, and rebounds well. His shooting is a given.

Teams will eventually start x-out switching against the Hornets & that will cut into their 3pt efficacy, but they’ve been on an absolute tear. Probably won’t be until the play-in/play-offs until the Hornets start seeing teams make major adjustments specifically for them.

Regardless, Kon is absolutely the rookie of the year & the Hornets have been impressive as hell.

I agree that adjusting to the Hornets is easier said than done, but it shouldn’t be a huge issue for high seeded playoff teams w/ experience (plus the Heat bc of Spo) to make the adjustments necessary to slow down Charlotte.

It happens to every young up & coming team. They figure out a system that works really well about halfway through the regular season, but then get humbled by a more experienced team and/or coach in the playoffs when scouting reports go HARD. It’s a very natural part of team development.

Main reason why this happens is because most NBA teams kind of coast through the regular season. They settle into some base offense & defense that can rack up enough wins to get a decent playoff seed, and only make minimal scouting-based adjustments in the meantime. Extremely focused, match-up based game plans/adjustments typically wait for the playoffs.
