[All-Access] Trae Young gets shown some love by the Hawks faithful as he returns to Atlanta for the first time as a member of the Washington Wizards.
Franchise legend. Will be rooting for him to succeed in Washington against everyone but the Hawks.
He gave us some unforgettable moments, that’s for sure. Hope he balls out in DC (except when he plays us).
“as a member of the washington wizards”
gahdamn.
A fate worse than death
Hey. The warriors used to be worse than death. Now look at them
Yeah, but if you go back further than that they were also winning chips back then
Bullets made it 4 times in the 70s
Maybe the new basketball meta will be a system where him and Davis are doing nasty work.
Yer a Wizard Traee
Will always root for Trae
Did y’all know the Hawks are the seventh most profitable team in ALL sports. And the 2nd most profitable NBA team?
Did y’all know that we refused to go into the luxury tax for Trae Young’s teams? He led the league in points and assists for the Hawks. He took a team to the Eastern Conference finals. Only for our franchise to REFUSE to spend any real money and just pay slightly above market value for players like Capela, Collins and Hunter.
If the Hawks went into the salary tax they could have had a consistent contender. Instead we are resetting again. While the best player of my lifetime gets to salary dumped into a team that will go farther than us in the playoffs next year.
Fuck the Hawks man. This team depresses me. We spend our tax dollars on tax breaks for state farm arena and have the highest amount of people on probation in the nation. Could just spend that money on social services. But no. I gotta watch my mid as fuck franchise remind me that life is meaningless and without merit.
You could replace a lot of this with the sixers and it would also be true so I feel the pain man. Fuck cheap owners who use the team as a portfolio asset.
Sadly this is how American sports are structured. Draft lottery system and a single division (no relegation) doesn’t incentivize the owners to spend more to compete against each other and stay afloat. They can stay profitable by doing the minimum.
I’m not caping for Ressler in any capacity, but I get the rationale. Both sides agreed to see where the team was at in January, and he got hurt. Couldn’t justify him under that new CBA (the reason we could afford KP and NAW in the first place because no team’s fucking with those second apron restrictions). If he’d taken a pay cut to be in line with the market, absolutely would have still been here – but he didn’t, and I don’t think he should have had to, but it’s true his contract is now considered an albatross without a strong supporting roster (because we were not going to make noise with only one functioning C in Okongwu). He didn’t have to try to cut bait early – he could have just as easily kept his mouth shut and dragged it all the way to June. It was quick, hurt a little, but was done without too much acrimony, which… let’s be honest, that doesn’t happen often in this league.
I think he just got hurt at the worst possible time – because he would have had a case for either a better return or justifying his salary and staying on – and that’s sadly the most Hawksian thing about all this.
Got nothing but love for Trae
trae on the hawks was a great foil, fun talent. Hope he can help the wizards get out of the basement
Atlanta better praise the fuck out of this dude for putting them back on prime time during his duration there
He had a great playoff run in 2021. Definitely a hawks legend.
Trae was scapegoated for their defensive issues and honestly wish he could have stayed on the Hawks. Their fanbase obviously loves him.
Considering how he left, he could certainly pull a Wade late-career tradeback if the next contract market looks shaky – our whole reason for trading him is we couldn’t justify handcuffing the team to the first apron after the KP experiment so clearly failed. If this was still the prior CBA he’d have gotten paid – I really believe that.
I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of him coming back at all
This is great! Wish his the best
This is always nice to see
I really wanted him to be here forever
Can tell on his face it’s bittersweet
They will regret trading him. They had the perfect team tailored around him. They need a guy like him with Jalen Johnson. Negotiate a pay cut and he would’ve stayed
Negotiate a pay cut and he would’ve stayed
I mean, that’s the whole thing. I bet Trae and the Hawks were something like \(15-20 million PER YEAR apart in what they think his next contract ought to look like. There’s a whole bunch of guys who got maxxed in the pre-aprons era whose contracts are now albatrosses, and Trae’s is one of them. You think he would have signed for \)30m/yr instead of picking up his $50m option and then trying to force a trade out? I don’t.
This is a sad look for everyone. Hope he and AD have some get back next year.
AJ Styles yesterday, and Trae tonight. Been an emotional 48 hours in this arena
Trae “Street Clothes” Young
Ain’t that beautiful? I wonder how long he’ll be injured for, I lowkey want to see him play this season
Wizards really have so much potential next year
Does Young play anymore?
His hairline had a remarkable comeback. I remember rookie Trae having a crazy receded hairline.
Iirc, it’s his hair texture – when he sweats, it looks wispy and thin, like he’s balding, but he’s never been bald
I thought this dude was greying for a second
A traebute
The one slimmer of hope that Atlanta sports fans have had in one of the pro teams in years. He absolutely deserves it
That was a clean dap from the Hawk.
I wanna know where he went to get his hair plugs
This feels wrong…
He tried man.
Why bother to show up if you’re not playing. Ruins whats supposed to be a special moment.
It seems like it’d be nicer to show up when you don’t have to play against your old team. Those cheers would be turning into boos.
Could he at least dress better?
