Hall of Fame Finalist Marques Johnson slams his final dunk at 70 years old, finishing a decades-long tradition of dunking every birth day
I’ve seen enough, sign him to the Kings.
He seems healthy. Why would they want him?
Charnia: Kings announced newly signed Marques Johnson is having season-ending back surgery.
Sources say it happened during his introductory press conference dunk.
Charnia
They are trying to tank, sir!
He would make them want to win. That’s dangerous.
Somewhere Nico is sitting angrily on his couch, watching this clip and thinking: “Fuck, you mean I could have gotten more for this fat Luka kid??”
sad ‘they not like us’ noises
bro cmon. its his birthday.
Lmao the kings are such trash that they are the meme teme someone picks when they want you to feel embarrassed in 2k26.
meme teme?
Freaking love Marques man
Always love when that picture of Michael Jordan in his college dorm room makes the rounds and people see that Marques poster on the wall! He had some real ‘Your Favorite Player’s Favorite Player’ type stuff. Bucks fans are blessed to still have this man on the broadcast and around the franchise.
Bucks GOAT. Not begging to leave them and shilling for Kalshi.
Most of yall got a rapist as your franchise goat who also threatened to leave multiple time, and you talking down a man making unideal, yes, but at least legal investments.
til unideal is a word
I read it as uni-deal like five times before I got un-ideal because of this comment lol
We didn’t go to the greatest high school in the history of high schools I guess 😭
Magic clears Kobe lol
I’m not even beholden to Kobe being top 3. Rape obviously takes him down a peg and Magic+West were just straight up better. Shaq and Kareem depend on how you view their Lakers stints specifically.
So yea some of us are ethical observers of the sport. Thanks tho
Thats why he said most, which is true. Kobe hella overrated especially by Lakers fans
Why is that my fault? I cant have opinions now because of the opinions of other people? That doesn’t seem reasonable.
They are saying that your opinion doesn’t invalidate the point. Not that your opinion is invalid.
I’m saying that the point was irrelevant to what I said
Bringing up the opinion of my fanbase as a counter to my opinion is incoherent
You have been appointed the vessel for all Lakers’ fans opinions, good or bad. You are the one who will be lauded or punished for the views of each and every Laker fan in the world.
Kareem?
wish I had that energy even when I was half his age. God Bless
If you don’t have energy at 35 you should strongly consider serious life changes brother. That’s the body you’re stuck with until it’s over and that could be another 50 years.
Don’t put yourself in a position where you only spent 20 years feeling good in a body you have until 85.
I mean I agree but idk if he was that serious lol
It’s a good note for everybody regardless.
Most people here could probably stand to take better care of themselves. Myself included.
Three things.
Drink more water
Get rid of sugary drinks
Get a sleep study to see if you need a cpap
This guy bodies
Got a CPAP. Changed my life.
U right 💯
its more tongue in cheek…..
It’s worth mentioning.
Like, you probabky don’t feel like you did at 20. Most people don’t. Nothing wrong with a reminder that we won’t suddenly wake up feeling great as we age. Gotta work for it otherwise it’s a loooooong life to live in a dinged up, poorly maintained body.
what should i do if i wake up feeling horrible at 20
Rejoice because you can fix the damage you’ve done much easier at 20 than at 30 or 40.
If you have insurance, go to a doctor to get physical therapy for any nagging injuries.
Start drinking tons of water.
Find an outdoor hobby you like doing, and go to the gym with the intent of getting better at the things required for you to do your hobby.
Real shit?
The easy part is drink more water. Even if you don’t lay off the garbage it will make a huge difference to always be hydrated.
Then it’s adjusting diet.
And then exercise. Don’t need to hit the weights if it isn’t your thing, but play some basketball a time or two during the week, or go for a walk. Just be active.
I feel better at 31 than I did at 25. Went through a ton of medical shit around that time that ruined my body, plus the depression of going through that for a few years and I just wasn’t taking care of myself.
I feel my best when I’m in the gym 3-4 days a week, but even when I’m not just paying attention to what I eat and hydration does wonders for the body and mind.
Doesn’t even need to be some hardcore diet or regime. Just make an effort be active atleast two or three days a week and think about what you eat and make better choices and that will start you down the right path brother.
If you are active and feel like shit give yourself time to recover and proper nutrition and it goes a longgggggg way.
When I was in highschool id drink a litter of soda, eat some fat boy shit and go hit two a days and not think twice about it, looked good, felt good. That luxury starts to diminish as you go through your 20s
hopital
Not sure where you are located, but here in NY after a couple of hours of shoveling this white shit we call snow… yeah I am feeling it!
I hear ya on that though, you only get one body gotta take care of it!
lol, Maine brother so I feel ya (although yesterdays shit completely missed me)
The recent warm up revealed a leak on my roof so I’ve had the great pleasure of climbing up on the roof to shovel every time it’s snowed since/covering the leak until spring so I can get a new one.
I definitely don’t feel as spry as I did a decade ago going up and down a ladder and moving snow like that.
Reminds me of when I joked with everybody that I was going to eat all their asses. They started freaking out and I told them that it was tongue in cheek
Also consider it may not he physical as much as mental.
I have no energy at all when my chronic depression has a particularly good day at the office.
I do think the guy was being funny. But nevertheless it’s a very good point that some people need to take seriously.
Is it worth dunking at 85 if you are just a black hole for jokes
Then you’ve got a guy like me who’s waiting for confirmation of a terminal diagnosis at age 30. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, everything is bumming me out today. Cherish all the time you have, everyone.
Well look on the bright side dude atleast you don’t have to watch SGA play basketball for much longer. (Love you and good luck brother)
i think he meant charisma
If a 35 year old is in that bad of shape, They arent making it to 85, Theyll be the ones using a cane/walker in their 50s
A lot of those folks still live a lot longer than one would think.
My dad is in the nursing home and I see it all the time. It’s sad, and most of them probably wish they made the changes they were advised to make decades before it reached the point of no return (my dad included)
My 85 year old great uncle drives my 55 year old aunt to doctors appointments. He sold his long-time house and bought a small fixer-upper when he was 79 and finished after he was 80. My dad and I went to check up on him while he was working on it during the summer it was no-shit like 110 in there and he was just laying tile. Dude has been retired since I was born and has just never stopped.
Not to pile on with the people mentioning it’s a joke but just another thing to consider with comments like that is a lot of people have conditions that can take away their energy and deteriorate their bodies at much younger ages.
Chronic illness, etc.
I 100% agree with your sentiment and am one of those people on the road to taking better care of myself as I am starting to notice the effects of my pretty sedentary lifestyle on my body, but just wanted to add the note as you have that it is not something that can simply be done for everyone, and for everyone to be aware that people around you who may seem perfectly normal can be dealing with things beneath the surface that make it a lot harder for them to do things that are normal for most of us.
Having a chronic illness isn’t an excuse to not take care of yourself and often times people use it as a crutch to avoid accountability for the things they can control.
You have a chronic illness? Cool, that doesn’t mean you have to eat like shit. That doesn’t mean you can’t drink water. Even if it’s hard you WILL feel better if you can dedicate yourself to it.
I was on lifting restrictions for years and years. Serious surgeries, chronic pain that will last the rest of my life with zero chance of anything improving it. I still feel significantly better taking care of myself.
Depression, injury, medical shit. None of that changes the fact that you will feel better and be significantly better off mentally and physically if you care for yourself.
I can’t believe this is the same guy who wanted to shoot Billy Hoyle
Not just Billy, “shoot everybody’s ass”
“Raymond! Is that you?”
Na Na This Ain’t Raymond!
Deserved. Billy hustled him
Oh shit! He’s “…Go to my car….get my other gun” guy? TIL
he realized he was getting scammed, fuck that shit, air it out
Why is it the final one?
It’s pretty nice to say, “I turned 70 today, I’m gonna take my final risk of fucking this up & hang up my dunker hat. I had a good run,” instead of, “welp, I’m 71 today, darn my knee injury. Can’t dunk.”
He went out on his terms, and that’s his bday present to himself. If he feels like it again at 73 (a prime number, very special age) then I reckon he’ll do it again and feel just as good about it. But it’s his sunset years man, it feels good to hang the hat up.
I prefer 79 personally. Very special
Nobody gives af about prime #s irl fyi
Hold on where is not real life? If they don’t care in real life where do they care about prime numbers?
Irrational life.
You don’t understand what he means?
NOBODY?!
Hey man, it’s cool that your focus in life has been on something else, but it’s crazy to think that your tiny little slice of life is all that there is…
Even if he makes it to 80 that’s a lot to ask of an octogenarian…
He does it every birthday, not every 10 years.
probably doctors and family asking him to not keep attempting this as he gets older. Big fall risk.
He barely needed to get off the ground though.
What the fuck? He’s fine.
Yes that’s the point, he’s fine and 70, they don’t want him to be not fine and 71 next time.
Y’all make it sound like he’ll break his hip if he jumps a foot in the air. Being sedentary is recipe for an early death.
Brother you can jump a foot into the air, turn your ankle wrong and bust ass at any age
Dude is clearly under 30. Anyone even approaching 40 knows damned well that every jump (a foot in the air or not) is potentially a trip to urgent care.
Why ever jump then? Why cross the street?
I think you’re and I’m sorry if this comes off as an insult it isn’t, naive about the state of elderly people and how delicate they are, those questions aren’t for you, ask those questions to the elderly and there’s a lot more answers.
If Johnson doesn’t want to do it that’s fine, he seems to being doing well, but you really are as old as you feel. My 75 year old father is in the gym daily. My mother just re-floored a bathroom at 70. My 96 year old neighbor has one of the best yards in the neighborhood.
That’s all great. It sounds like those people are taking care of their health. And I bet part of how they do that is that they make choices about which activities are safe which activities are not. Jumping up to dunk a basketball at old age is one of those high risk, low reward activities.
Because younger people are more capable of recovering from injury?
Have you ever seen that one video of Tom Segura attempting a layup? Your body can absolutely just shatter from the most mundane shit, especially as you get older.
LOL
Omg you’re adorable.
You must not really know much about old people. Jumping a foot in the air when you’re old can absolutely lead to breaking a hip. There’s a difference between staying active in your old age and doing athletic stunts that can get you hurt.
Hit a gym sometime. Plenty of older folks doing activities.
I agree. He looks fine right now. But the idea is just to quit while you’re on top and not attempt this later down the line when his body isn’t the same. They want to take the pressure off of him so that he doesn’t attempt this when he’s 80 and might fail to do a dunk end up hurting himself.
Him doing what’s he feels right is less my issue than people treating 70 year olds like they will turn to dust if they do the lightest of physical activity. Gyms all over the country have plenty of older folks.
Because he’s 70 years old and its insane that he’s still able to do it. Maybe he’s got a few more years of being able to do it in him, but he’s at an age where he needs to consider things like fall risks. Why not go out on top rather than pushing it either until he can’t or he gets hurt?
Pops still got hops, but he’s barely reaching it now and any injury will take much longer to heal and no guarantee it even does fully heal.
Yeah but why not 71
bro a 30 year old tore their acl at that one hawks all-star event trying to dunk, marques’ leg might break apart like lego
Some guy tore his ACL playing poker. Shit, anything can happen in life. Better to call it quits at 70
To paraphrase what Vince Carter said about dunking after 40, “its not about the lift off…it’s the landing.”
How many senior citizens do you see doing physical activities such as dunking a basketball? Bro is risking whatever cartilage he has left.
It’s because OP knows something we don’t know yet
He says it himself that it’s his final. Probably hurts like a bitch
get this man in the hall of fame already!
He can dunk at 70, clearly fit for congress
Sounds overqualified
My goat local market commentator
FecalSteamCondenser, you are a wise individual. Marques is a fantastic announcer and anytime he’s not announcing, the broadcast is not quite as entertaining.
Bullshit, his broadcasting is great. I will say his dynamic with Jim Pashcke is dearly missed but Lisa is getting easier to listen to every year.
He was best paired with Kevin Callabro
Don’t know why he said its the final one
Looks like he could still do it till 75 barring injury
I believe barring injury is probably the reason this is the final one lmao
I’m going to my car get my other gun shoot everybody’s ass!
“Raymond, is that you?”
“Nah nah, this ain’t Raymond.”
The best part about that line is that it was based on a true story!
It’s such a great little scene. Loved how, with Marques Johnson being 6’7”, he tries to subtly crouch and lower his head to hide his height.
Great hooper with the Bucks. All time character in White Men Can’t Jump. Happy birthday
I want this energy at 70.
52 and 6’3 and can still dunk but barely. I have been able to dunk since 89 and my goal is to dunk one last time in 2030 so I can say I was able to dunk in 6 different decades. Doubt I’ll get there but it’s still my goal!
Pretty sweet at your height! Marques has 4 inches on you
More athletic than all of us 😭
Props to him. I like that he decided to make this his last while has ahead. I know he would probably be super embarrassed of himself if he was to attempt to dunk at 75, but no longer able to get up.
Go Bruins!
He was a natural in White Men Can’t Jump
Loved him in White Man Can’t Jump
LA/Crenshaw LEGEND!
wholesome content. shoutout marques
That’s like 9 foot lol
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Still impressive at his age, but unless he’s 7’7 that is not a 10-foot rim
Tom Brady inflated, or actually deflated the ball.
big deal. i could have done that at HALF his age if i was 6’7
i wish there was a video coming out of the womb slamming it down
“Raymond, that you?!” “This ain’t Raymond.”
My man is dunking at 70 while I couldn’t turn my head left for a whole week because I had the audacity of sleeping in my bed the wrong way.
Why did my dumb brain read it as Magic Johnson?….and then look at the thumbnail confused as hell
Love the decision to end at 70. He might even be able to pull it off for a couple more years but he is walking away by choice
He should be in the Hall of Fame already, that’s ridiculous!
Deandre Jordan in shambles rn
i’m going to my car, get my other gun. shoot everybody’s ass
He still got it
I like the good vibes too
Dunking at 70 and while I couldn’t manage it without a lowered basket and a trampoline at 40.
Awesome!!! Get that man in the Hall!
Marques one year from now: “I got one more in me!”
Old athletes are hilarious cause they always act like athletes no matter how old they get.
Last time I dunked was I was 55 and I crow about that. Lol, like that happy dance
The ball was delayed. Arthritis probably prevents him from holding it properly.
Also, I last dunked at 36.
This guy rules
Unironically better dunk than most of the dunk contest in 2026
The Mavs just signed him and cut Cooper Flagg
What is a Hall of Fame Finalist?
This year’s ballots haven’t been cast yet, but he’s a strong nominee
aah makes sense
Everyday I wake up lucky that this man is our color commentator
That’s one more dunk than I’ll make..
“Nah both yall crazy. Ima go to my car. Get my other gun. Shoot everybody ass!”
Remember his first game at UCLA, didn’t play because of Mono, I think. He scored 14 points on 7 offensive rebounds and just played them in, because dunking was illegal, became one of my all time favorites. Followed his whole career. Too bad he got hurt w/ the Clippers, would’ve had a few more great years His playoff career while he was a Buck was special
He can do one more…71!
I don’t even have a quarter of that energy to wake up and go to work at half his age
That was some fantastic advertising and a monumental moment.
Give this legend his flowers.
why is it the last one?
He’s 6’7”, for those wondering. Remarkable how little he has to jump to get up there.
One of Jordans favorite players
He was so good on the Xbox game Inside Drive with Kevin Collabro
Dunking at 4 years old is crazy work
Deflate gate
Lebron can’t even do this !
Sorry to be a hater, but does it count with the flat ball?
My hands are a little small for my height, so I could not palm a full sized ball well enough to throw it down. I could get the ball above the rim when going for a dunk, but I would always lose it above the rim, so it would never be a dunk. But, I could dunk a flat ball, or a football, or anything else I could fully control with one hand.
I never claimed that I could dunk because of this.
LeBron got competition
I love ts man
Marques Johnson and Kevin Collabro formed an amazing announcing duo for the Sonics from 94-98 … never had as much fun watching/listening to basketball games since
Hell yeah Marques
I got into running after college and when I turned 25, decided to run 25 miles on my birthday. Every year on my birthday I repeat it. I call it the ‘Still Got It 25’.
I do wonder how long I can keep it going. It’s been a quarter century and I’m trending up at this point (running a marathon in a few weeks). But, obviously, there will have be a last running of the Still Got It 25 and hopefully it’s not one with me face down on the pavement somewhere.
No joke he has a few more years in him. That dunk looked easy
Decades-long tradition of lowering that rim, looks like.
Wasn’t this a couple years ago?
He does it every year, he turned 70 yesterday
According to Google he turned 70 February 8th….I guess he does it in the same clothes too
Not to go all Asshole Truther on a 70 year old man but there’s no way that rim is at regulation height.
that’s what i thought too but then i went back and watched some of his old ones, and I think he just has a really long reach. he doesn’t need to get far off the ground even at his 55 year old “Blake Griffin dunks over a car” re-enactment.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLvjAbYKIsg
Long reach plus google says hes 6’7” but probably shrunk a couple inches since playing days
If he can really still get up and dunk on a 10 foot rim, then this year the cameraman did him a real disservice, because this is exactly how you would shoot it if you were trying to fudge it. Very different angle from how they shot it 15 years ago.
OG was on his tippy toes and damn near the rim 😭😭
