Yeah at the absolute worst it’s an offensive foul for the “stiff arm” type move, but it’s also a play that is largely uncalled in the modern nba, which is why you see this tons throughout a game. And it almost never leads to an injury

If Vince WIlliams doesn’t get hurt, watching this play, it’s a clear foul by Eason at the very least. It’s so hard to tell these days what a common foul is versus a flagrant foul, but you could even make the argument that it is flagrant because the contact is “unnecessary” as we hear the refs talk about so much on foul reviews.

Basketball was designed as a non contact sport, as the game evolved and rules changed there is obviously plenty of contact during a game but not to the level of an actual contact sport like football.

Right, the condemnation in the comments is surprising. It was a little bump used to create space that happens all the time in every sport. It sucks that the dude got hurt, but that was a freak thing.

It is terrible to watch, but its an average basketball play (meaning it was a foul). Nothing dirty about it - worse stuff than that happens on every single drive to the basket. In this case, the result was unfortunate and sad. He’s young and ACLs are no longer the end of careers as they were 25 years ago so hopefully he can get back on the court toward the end of next year.

It’s also kind of odd too because it seems pretty selective. Like just two days ago Myron Gardner and Scottie Pippin Jr had their altercation. Before Scottie went after Myron, there were totally missed calls on each of them. But while Myron body checked Scottie, that play was not called or noticed by refs. Then, Scottie starts the fight with Myron.

So how did they both get fined equally if Scottie started the fight that led to the actual ejections? They got fined by the league afterwards. If they don’t consider non-called plays are we to believe they didn’t look at his uncalled body check? Did they fine Myron solely for being choked out?

I mean, he was an active participant there, but Scottie did come at him and that was the called altercation. So how are they both fined equally? They pretty clearly looked at the lead up and the body check and therefore didn’t rely on the floor call or lack thereof to help dictate their punishment.

Well for one it’s not true. While they can’t assess technical fouls after the fact they absolutely can levy any kind of punishment for on court conduct (which by the definition in the rules includes things that happen anywhere in the arena) if they deem it merits a fine/suspension.
