[Injury] Josh Okogie steals the ball and finds Tari Eason, who finishes with the fastbreak dunk after bumping into Vince Williams Jr., who got injured and carried to the locker room (with replays). Rockets and Peacock commentaries
I’ll never understand how the offensive player initiating contact on a fast break is almost always rewarded with either a foul on the defender, or no call at all.
Not just the fast break. Every aspect of the game is just the offensive player barreling into defenders and getting calls.
Most surefire to stop momentum in a game that’s starting to get away from you is to just throw your body into a defender with no fathomable chance at making the shot and claiming your infinite free throws
Unless your name is Steph Curry.
What they’ve done to the game is unconscionable
The Giannis and LeBron special
You named the two players who’d rather get the bucket then get fouled, and the two players that consistently get attacked when they’re driving lmao. Could’ve named butler and deni if anything
I agree with what you are saying, they aren’t initiating contact with the intent of a foul call and FTs and your examples are much better.
However LeBron, Giannis and their style of player are similarly rewarded by current refing because they are bullying their way through legal defense without a charge call being made. It’s more similar to what’s happening in the video (not this comment thread).
No. LeBron and Giannis play like running backs because the officials reward offensive players initiating contact. LeBron not as much the last few years but he’s capitalized off it his entire career.
I would say Giannis more so than Lebron. Lebron was a great finisher and got fouled often. Giannis talent is barreling through the lane
Giannis is def worse at it cause he doesn’t have LeBron’s bag (tbf very few people do)
But LeBron has def abused it
The good old Lebron move.
there is a ref straight behind him who barely has any vision at the ball. he is running around eyes closed getting his daily steps in. Eason went way out of his path just to shove the defender
The offensive player has a right to the path in front of them including a defender UNLESS the defender is in legal guarding position (ie both feet are flat). If initiating contact was always an offensive foul, they’d never call a block.
That’s not how the rule book defines it and by that definition a retreating back peddling defender can get called for a block
Defenders on their back feet get called for fouls all the time
uhh yeah that happens literally every game
have you not seen that called before or what
That’s more or less what I’m getting at here; two players (one offensive and one defensive) racing down court side by side. The offensive player is most often rewarded by either a foul call or space when they go sideways into the defender. In this case, Williams was in no way in front of Eason.
There has to be nuance, but when one player clearly goes out of their way to knock a person running full speed off balance, injuries are likely to happen, and this should have been an offensive foul.
Yes the swerve into the defensive players lane is cheesy. This is something they were trying to crack down on last season.
that brotha was no where near the ball and still decided to bump bro, L Eason tbh
Yeah that was a reckless closeout, just completely unnecessary contact. Hope Williams is alright.
There is no closeout on this play.
Man what the fuck was that? Bush league shit.
Feel terrible for Vince. He’s a dawg and plays with so much effort but he has the worst injury luck with things that aren’t his fault at all
I had no idea who he was when we got him, but the few games we’ve had him, I’ve really loved his effort.
Such a bummer.
Seriously, that was reckless as hell. Vince can’t catch a break with these freak accidents.
I guess you missed where he throws his head back to sell the contact…and THEN gets hurt. If he wasn’t flopping, he wouldn’t have put his leg down awkwardly
That’s a normal basketball play that happens every game and all your favorite players do.
If flopping is being “a dawg” then it ain’t no compliment. No wonder people called Marcus smart that all the time.
Worst injury luck? With things that ain’t his fault? He could of played through the contact and not gotten injured right now. Instead he chooses to flop and gets hurt.
Isn’t this the dude who wanted to beat up Ja? That ain’t cool tryna fight Ja
Man go hoop. This is normal fast break activity. Vince tried to sell the contact if anything
That sucks man, there’s no reason to do that, that’s a career altering injury. And billion dollar league and there are no wheelchairs or stretcher ready, smh.
You’re right, its insane. Gotta have space on the sidelines for the money seats I guess.
Even some rec leagues have them ready right behind the scorers table, can’t they afford to station at least one in each tunnel
Wheelchairs are for potty breaks only
Other than the fact he touched him the injury has nothing to do with the contact. Selling the call caused the injury.
Bumped another while on a fastbreak and you’re dumbing it down to selling the call? You are sick 🤮 Eason even went to the locker room to apologize for the incident
He’s not selling a call, he was bumped at full speed. It sucks, it’s unlucky, but no need to blame the victim here.
Watch his head jerk back for no reason before he was injured
Highly regarded
Oh my god? So unneccesary he wasn’t gonna get anywhere near the ball
Just like Okogie when he tried to injured Castle on his windmill
Eason mighta just ended Williams Jr’s career gd that looked awful
According to Sarah Todd, it is believed by multiple sources that Vince Williams Jr. got a significant ACL injury.
Fuck man..
Minor bump = guilty of ending someone’s career?
cmon now
The dude flops and hurts himself, shoulda played through it
Edgy
It’s true the dude sells the call and it leads to the injury use your eyes
We are up and he wasn’t even ever going to get under that pass… What are you doing Tari
To be fair 7 points in the second half is nothing
Thats a penalty even in the NFL. You cant knock a guy off his route like that
Lol you must have never seen a nfl game before.
A WR would be flagged for pass interference for chucking a DB 5 yards past the line of scrimmage like this 99% of the time.
Am I trippin or was that intentional asf? I don’t think he was trying to hurt him like that but he goes in to bump him to get an easier fastbreak. That replay was brutal
The flop? Or the bump? Vince does get bumped but it’s only when he goes for the flop does the injury happen.
Have you ever been pushed while running at almost full speed?
Yeah
Incredibly dirty and should have resulted in an ejection.
Can’t even wrap my head around why he would initiate contact there. Dirty as fuck
he was trying to create space for his transition take. don’t think he meant to injure him but it should have been a flagrant given the result of the contact.
There’s no world where that bump helps them finish that play without it being a dirty foul. Anyone that’s played any sport knows you can’t just knock someone off their line like that. Look at the angle Eason hits him at. It’s not even a bump he’s turned mostly into him. Tari is a piece of shit.
Try playing basketball man. Bumps/shoves happen. That’s basketball. Just an unfortunate landing
Daily player for almost 20 years. I know what normal bumps are
Good for you. Everybody is a dirty player it is then
Notice how not every player is shoving people out of their lane on fast breaks and causing injuries
Damn, them some homer goggles you got. He has the better angle to the rim, and goes out of his way to bump the defender.
Seriously why would you go out of your way to knock someone 30 feet away from the ball
Just so unnecessary
Am I the only one that thinks this doesn’t look dirty? Bad luck, yes. Unnecessary, I don’t think so but I can see the point. Offensive foul, not by our current league standards but i would not be mad if it was called. Intentionally dirty, no I don’t see it.
It’s not dirty IMO. It was definitely unnecessary and an offensive foul, but it was mainly just a super unfortunate freak accident.
99.9% of the time, a shove like that doesn’t end in an injury at all. Vince just happened to land in the absolute worst possible way to cause an injury
Na it ain’t dirty. Dude flops into an injury .
Same. Hell, to me even looks like Vince’s flopping/embellishing the contact is what lead to the freak accident. 100% ill get downvoted for victim blaming or something, but let’s get real. These are two massive athletes, and that bump from Eason did not warrant that reaction from Vince.
Hope it’s only a sprain or something. Definitely looked like a pretty extreme hyperextension, unfortunately.
Edit: received a message from reddit cares after making this comment. Lol. Apparently I may be depressed? Guess some words used in the comment triggered something. Apologies if anyone was triggered by the comment.
“that bump from Eason did not warrant that reaction from Vince.”
I just mean the initial head jerk—of course not the hyperextension. That was just an unfortunate freak accident.
It was unnecessary and certainly an offensive foul. It kind of looks like Williams was trying to oversell the contact and ended up hurting himself in the process. It’s hard to say though without better camera angles.
Not dirty but reckless
Very Dirty and it might’ve ended his career.
Is that head jerk because of the bump? Aside from that, his leg was not in the right shape, hope he recovers soon.
Yeah low key kinda embellished the contact trying to draw the foul and gave himself the lift to fall so awkwardly. Obviously Vince wasnt doing anything wrong cause there was clear and unnecessary foul contact but his selling the bump there is what i think led to the injury.
Hope thats worded clear enough and it doesnt sound like I’m victim blaming. Total freak bad luck stuff. Maybe a little uncessary from Tari but hardly awful or intentional.
Totally unnecessary from Eason
I might get downvoted because it’s definitely unnecessary but it doesn’t seem malicious imo. Hope he heals up
yeah i feel like i’m going crazy with how people are talking about this. it was pretty unnecessary and an offensive foul for sure but not even close to being on purpose or even all that reckless. it’s a super unfortunate outcome from what amounts to a fairly normal fast break, save for the missed call.
Not a necessary bump but Williams tryna throw his head back is what put him so off balance that he got hurt. Unlucky
Ouch that does not look good
This is normal basketball man, not dirty. He wanted to bump him to have a clear lane to the rim. People do this all the time. Sucks for Vince tho
I feel so bad for Vince Williams Jr. Dude has the worst injury luck.
Jazz fans didn’t think this was dirty when Joe Ingles did it
Ingles is a dirty piece of shit too
Yeah that’s bullshit. I’m sorry Jazz fans, we don’t endorse this
Call the blatant offensive fouls. Trash ass refs every single night.
Reddit is so dramatic. Freak accident, it’s basketball.
holy fuck
What a terrible play all around. Just unnecessary, refs missed it totally and dude season might be over. Did not look good after the replay. Thought it was maybe concussion or head injury at first but nope
NSFW
Don’t they have stretchers?
Tari’s a serious jackass for that, Williams wasn’t even in the same zip code as the ball
“Bumping into”???????
Look at this again. With glasses if necessary. Dirty pool.
Tari Eason is a fucking loser
MAMMA MIA that hurt to watch
Injury update: According to the reports it is believed he got an ACL injury, but I guess it will be confirmed tomorrow with MRI
Wishing him well and full recovery.
This sucks man.
Had nightmares about hyperextensions that looked better than this, absolutely brutal.
How does that ref running behind the play not see Eason veer out of his path to hit Williams? Most obvious foul ever and he can see how awkwardly Williams falls literally right in front of him, but he swallows the whistle. NBA refs are trash.
Flopped his was into an injury.
The bump was unnecessary and Williams tried to sell it. Both could be argued as leading to the injury, but imo that is more just a bad fluke than anything.
This just seems on brand for a team coached by Ime Udoka
He hurt himself flopping 🤦♂️
That might’ve been the most I’ve seen a leg hyperextend and not break goodness
This is a pretty normal bump, Vince flipped himself into a blown up knee, just bad luck. Definitely not a dirty play.
Goddamit tari
why was he blocking him like it’s football? i don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that.
Pretty sure it happens nearly every fast break.
Is this the first game you’ve watched ?
If you’ve seen other games, it must be the camera angle disorienting you
ft for sga
look at how much he goes out of his normal path on the fast break just to push the defender. this is some seriously wack shit. there is also a ref straight behind him who is doing absolutely nothing - he has no vision on the ball bro is just putting his daily steps it running around eyes closed
Tari Eason is a clown. That’s terrible.
Typical rockets player going for injuries, really doesn’t surprise u with the type of mom he got online. U can tell how bro was raised
Eason felt good after injuring the guy with the dunk as the cherry on top. He feeling good after his best accomplishment in his NBA career.
I think Eason should get a suspension for that.
How do the officials miss something like that? Suspension worthy, in my opinion.
999 times out of 1000, that hit doesn’t do that. This was a terrible combination of the hit, a flop, bad luck, and physics mixing together and causing the injury. The end result is terrible, but it wasn’t reckless, and it definitely wasn’t intentional.
I feel like Eason isn’t getting enough flak for this, what he did is beyond fucked up. Thats a player deliberately injuring another, that was not a mistake
No it’s not lmao
Eason is the same player that was complaining about Zebras
lol eason is on your shit list ever since making that comment about denicide, huh
how’d you feel when wemby commented about him to the same effect
Who is Denicide?
Eason was commenting about the referees, the same referees that ignored a blatant foul by him.
Deni Avdija cooked him in this game,
I even had an exchange with Eason’s mother on X/Twitter about it.
I bet he isn’t complaining about the zebras now.
