Castle should get just as much credit. He was hounding Cade and even when it looked like Cade beat him, it ended up being intentional to funnel him to Wemby and trap him with a passing lane. Haven’t seen anybody play team defense like this all year. 

He’s already one of the most terrifying rim protectors in the league, and he’s still figuring things out.

I swear he can average 10 blocks a game if teams were to play normally against him. But because he is such a defensive threat, they refuse to attack the rim or attempt layups when he is around. His sheer presence rob him more chances because the opponents simply won’t even TRY.

He could play with 4 Luka doncic level defenders around him and still anchor an above average nba defense

I mean putting a sentient arm flailing balloon man out there on defense does seem like a flawless idea.

We arent a good 3 point team so we were kind of forced to. Which lead to wemby doing wemby things and the spurs hitting a 3 on the other end.

They should start counting those as “Wemby Fright Checks” in the advanced stats.

We lead the league in points in the paint by a wide margin and still basically said “fuck that” all second half. You guys funnel into Wemby so well, when we thought we finally got a clean look it was a trap all along.

Exactly, his defense alone makes him a game-changer even when his shot isn’t falling. Those 6 blocks completely alter how teams attack the paint.

5 of the miss were after his own offensive rebound so the ⁶⁄₁₆ didn’t even feel that bad, obviously would be better if he made them but it’s not like he was chucking shots and freezing his teammates.

The offensive boards were insane, he was just snatching them out of the air all night. Cade definitely looked spooked driving into that lane.

Honestly, can’t blame them for that initial reaction. Some of these in real time I’m not sure about. Then I watch the replays and it’s clearly a block. It’s just something we’re not used to seeing. I watch every Spurs game and I’m still not used to it. Literally just in awe of this guy.

Its kinda my favorite part

Spurs are a next man up team. Look at the box score. It was Vassell’s night. This is part of their game plan against the more physical teams. Victor’s the bait while the 3 point shooters feast. He does struggle against stronger opponents offensively but no complaints. The team is built for this exact scenario.

Frankly give me Wemby over Jokic this season. Unless this is the first season where records for the best teams suddenly don’t matter? And if the Spurs pass OKC, you can make a serious case for the best defender since Hakeem and maybe ever and the #1 option on his team most nights being the NBA regardless of how well SGA has been playing.

Based on their individual games, Wemby is still behind Jokic and SGA. But if we consider all other factors for MVP, it’s only SGA that’s clearly ahead. Nuggets has been losing like crazy and Jokic has been mid/bad since he came back.

I’d take Wemby over Jokic right now for the MVP, but not over SGA.

I am so excited to see where this team goes with an insanely young core and a slew of draft picks to continue to put pieces around Wemby.
