I’ll try and find it but I was looking at some on/off numbers for this season and found one for % of opponent’s FG attempts at the rim.
For a reference point, when Rudy Gobert is off the floor MN opponents take 52% of their shots at the rim. When Gobert is on the floor that number drops to 49%.
When Wemby is off the floor opponents take 50% of their shots at the rim.

Detroit shutdown the paint by putting multiple bodies there. Which led to multiple wide open 3s. Vassel had like 3 wide open looks the 1st 2mins.
Spurs have the luxury of putting wemby in the paint to shut it down. Granted other guys need to help wemby secure boards.

Yeah got to be one of the toughest defenses he’s gonna face. Good thing Spurs 3s are falling. Definitely helped that Pistons over help on defense inside the paint. This is also a Spurs problem but they’re learning to trust Victor more in terms of holding down the paint

It really is amazing how good the Spurs are. They were bad last year then lost Wemby; somehow they’re one of the top teams in the league. Crazy turnaround
They were around .500 before they lost him and added Fox at the deadline, not particularly bad.
Yeah, and added Harper and Carter in the draft, who have both been far better than you’d expect from rookies. And Castle has taken a huge leap this year as well. And Kornet means our paint D doesn’t completely fall apart when Wemby rests. The team is just really well-constructed for what they’re trying to do this year.
Don’t forget about Keldon having a 6MOY caliber season and he’s in the best shape of his life. Champagnie is also having a great season. It’s all clicking so far.
Kornet addition is really key. Spurs defense isn’t really any better this year when Wemby’s on the floor compared to last year.
It’s just not the worst defense of all-time anymore when he sits. Kornet lineups field a very good defense of their own.

Totally agree. Fox is clearly the better player but Kornet is more important. With Castle, Vassell and Harper the Spurs could weather a Fox injury fairly well but with no Kornet it’s Biyombo or Olynyk which is not a name you want to see in 2026.
Up until december people kinda under valued how big of a leap the Spurs made in terms of depth over the last year. Adding Fox, Harper, Kornet and Bryant was big, that’s nearly half of the rotation, meanwhile Wemby, Castle and Champagnie kept getting better, Keldon and Vassell eased into their new roles. Obviously hindsight makes it all very obvious but it’s not a particularly shocking progress from a .500 team when you take it all into consideration.
Tbh, we were on pace to be a .500 or better (play in) team when Victor went down and then shut down Fox as well. The final record doesn’t reflect that anymore cuz by that point we had 0 centers and were basically starting scrubs. While at guard we had an aging Paul and a rookie.
Kornet and Harper have also been huge adds to our second unit, not to mention Fox being here all year this year.
We were not bad last year. We lost a lot of games by a possession or two and still were winning a good number while our players played whackamole with injuries
Chris Paul really helped Steph and Wemby develop some of that edge we’re seeing now
They added an all star caliber point guard and filled their biggest need of backup C with Kornet. Wemby was also not fully healthy for some of his games last season since his blood clot was affecting his stamina. And then they drafted Dylan Harper 🤣. They were bad last season but the improvements to the team were huge. Their floor was a borderline 50 win team with upside for more.
Would love for this to be the finals matchup this year. That’s easily a 7 game series

Cade played like ass and the Spurs shot well but the game was won and lost by effort and the Spurs got so many 2nd chance points and all the loose balls.
Game was won by letting the Spurs shoot 30 wide open 3’s and Wemby erasing Cade in the paint 5-6 times
Cade was going to miss those shots anyway, the thing with him is when he’s off he’s off. There were like 5 threes that were off 2nd chance points but yes Spurs shot 18-40 from 3 for 45% and the Pistons shot 7-36 for 19%, Pistons are not a three point shooting team but somehow shoot a higher percentage from 3 normally than the Spurs.
