Yeah, this is a good way to put it. He keeps doing things in amazing ways, but it seems like the goalposts just keep getting moved instead of fully appreciating what he already is. Like… if he didn’t become any better at all for the rest of his career, he’s still an absolute two way monster that literally changes how other teams have to play offense. Will he get better? That’s honestly been true. After his first 12 games he was averaging like five blocks a game. Once he came back from injury the amount of room attempts he defended went way way way down cuz teams just straight up stopped even trying him. He’s still going to average three plus for his career, even unlimited minutes and even with guys avoiding him, but they’re definitely trying

But now he cut out some bad 3PA, gets to the line a ton, cut down on his TOs, and the way he scores by shooting over the top of defenders and operating from the elbow is naturally resistant to playoff schemes and favors halfcourt environments.

He’s definitely better than Giannis. His D is probably just as impactful as Jokic/SGA on O. And his O is definitely better than their D. He’s become much more efficient on O while still a complete game breaker on D. Just as importantly, his game is incredibly portable and should be completely resistant to a tougher playoff environment.

If he’s able to stay healthy in the playoffs playing 35+ mpg, he is definitely the best player in the NBA. Health is the only thing stopping him at this point.

I wouldn’t say very slightly. It’s just that say the offensive impact of a harden curry or LeBron or MJ pretty handily outweighs the defensive impact of a kawhi/pippen, Duncan, gobert, Ron artest etc.

But I agree wemby might be an exception like that of one that wasn’t seen since the bill Russell days. If you’re right though spurs will win it all.

I do think sometimes wembys defense is a little bit overrated, the potential is there for him to be the greatest defender of all time, but he does still I feel like sometimes make young player type mistakes and can be slightly bullied by stronger bulky players. Hes still dpoy level for sure, but he’s not yet so game breaking that he is unreal. Spurs have a really good team defense around him, and once he really masters the subtle little stuff on defense he legit will probably be the best player in the league because he’s just overwhelming physically gifted. Like to be so long and tall and then be fluid agile and explosive for your size is unreal. And he’s just young, so he hasn’t maximized his strength and heft yet, but unlike Chet or mo bamba he does have a frame that looks like he can add strength and a bit of heft naturally, without reducing his athleticism or speed.
