Just a genuine question. Shaq, Kenny and Charles went more in depth, they both agreed and disagreed with each other as well. Charles was saying that some players are not MJ or Kobe. He said that KAT, along with Jarrett Allen are simply nice guys. He then brought up to Kenny that Kenny was a nice guy but Vernon Maxwell has that killer instinct. Kenny then agreed but also said that him and Vernon needed each other to balance them out. Vernon was able to get Kenny hyped, Kenny was able to calm Vernon down. Shaq then adds that the mentality for KAT was one that would force teams to double him, making the game easier for his teammates. That way if he is being dominant, he force would benefit the whole team.

I think it was a great segment. It also really puts into perspective how different players view things. I do not think people realize how great Charles was and how dominant Shaq was. These two big men like to see other big men take advantage of their advantages. It is criticism but you can see how passionate they are when they talk about Embiid and KAT. I think that is missed in these talks.

Also, this discussion is always brought up with LeBron and comparing him to others like Kobe and MJ. LeBron always will make the “right” basketball play and was always criticized for it. MJ and Kobe did not care about that because they wanted to kill you, personally. All of these players are built differently in how they play and attack the game,

Charles always says that the matchup and how the team is playing you dictates how you play. When they see KAT shooting 3pt shots (even though he is a solid 3pt shooter) when he is guarded but a smaller defender, they do not like that because they believe that KAT has the advantage and should use that advantage. Again, if KAT does not want to play that way, then that is on KAT. These former players see thing through their lens alot of the time. Also, criticism is not a bad thing.

Constantly saying, “Hey, they are doing it right” can be even worse. When you give out positivity just to appease someone can cause more harm. Someone may never work on something that can help them improve.

It’s so baffling to me that we STILL have this narrative that you can’t win in this league if you don’t have a very particular “killer” attitude

That part was nonsense but later on when Shaq talks about mentality and aggressiveness, he’s right about that.

Sometimes, players have to convince themselves that those peripheral things are important to stay in that headspace where they relish that aggression.

It’s hard to balance if it’s not something that’s natural.

Some players are straight psychos like Bryant and Jordan while others are more mellow overtly but still deadly like Duncan was.

The one true thing is Towns must be more aggressive.

Not sure why he gets any hate. Quality human being, good at basketball, plays hard and is a consistent player. His shortcomings are pretty typical.

And all this would make so much more sense, if he hadn’t already gone off and hit massive shots in the playoffs last year, in what was his 2nd consecutive conference final. It’s been a shaky few months in a new system, but he doesn’t have that much he needs to prove.

I’m confused, aren’t you saying there’s nothing to dislike about him outside the sport anyway?
