Even if that was true, Tatum is a good defender and luka is a below average defender. Luka is an all time great offensive player, but Tatum is still at least a good offensive player.

Individual defense is not remotely as valuable as offense. JT was surrounded by good-elite defenders on the 2024 team. He was like the 3rd best defender on that team. Luka is comfortably better on offense. Inarguably a better scorer and playmaker for sure.
Is that why Luka and Kyrie, “the best backcourt,” going into the 2024 Finals won the chip? Because offense > defense.

They won because they had 5 good defenders and were a great defensive team. Luka’s bad defense didn’t lose them the series either. The mavs failed to score 100 in the first 3 games. Offense lost them the series, not defense. No one besides Luka could make a shot.
Team was partially build that way in order to acomodate for Lukas defensive shortcomings and he was hunted and exploited on defense, wich generated easy offense for the Celtics, while they were comfortable playing him one on one and not giving up good looks that Lakers role players got thoroughout the playoffs.
I have no issues admitting, that Luka was most certainly individually the best player in those finals, but its also funny, how you completely fail to acknolwedge, that Lukas limitations were a factor in these finals as well and always will be.
