[Inside the NBA] Chuck and Kenny clown on Shaq saying he would get killed by Jokic and for getting swept by Hakeem Olajuwon: “You got swept didn’t you.. Somebody beat you 4 times in a row?” š
Hakeem was something else
We drafted him over Jordan and nobody is even upset about it. You gotta be pretty damn good for that.
Thatās his biggest testimony tbh. When my kids ask me āhow good was Hakeemā thatāll be my answer.
Iāve said this elsewhere but he is the answer or me of past superstar that would be more successful in todayās NBA. He was a very skllled big man who has mobile and a lock down defender. I could only imagine what would have happened has been allowed to roam more of the floor and develop a 3 point shot.
He had a good touch and a good shot.
It’s still important to note he only won championships when Jordan was playing baseball
Jordan was in the league for one of those.
The Dream was absolutely insane as a player
My all time favorite. Hes number 2 in my book. fight me š¤
That’s a good ass book
Considering number 1 (if biased) would be dirk, great list.
Prime Hakeem š„µ
Hakeem the Cream šš«
Top 10 all timer, better than duncan
Duncan was functionally a center despite being commonly labeled as a PF, which gives him a “GOAT PF” boost.
If you accept this, he might be the 6th best center ever behind Kareem, Bill Russell, Shaq, Hakeem, and Wilt.
You underestimating TD. Kareem and Bill I won’t argue. But TD career is not lesser than Hakeem or Shaq or Wilt.
Hell naah!!
This is why Spurs fans hold a middle finger up at the Rockets. Dallas fans are cool tho.
Hakeem got picked ahead of Michael Jordan and no one says it was a bad pick. That’s how good Hakeem was.
Deserves more credit for influence on the game. He literally paved the way for the modern stretch 5.
He what now?
He had a nice jumper but saying he paved way for modern stretch 5s is a massive stretch.
If you want to talk about someone that paved way for stretch 5s then you need to look at guys like Sam Perkins who actually made a living shooting 3s as a big.
Nah, Mehmet Okur was the real stretch 5 catalyst. 2K cheat code back in the day. Cheers
AK-47 was ahead of his time too.
Sabonis made an impact as well. He was a 38% three point shooter when he started playing with us despite already being hobbled by injuries. His impact was greater than what he did in his NBA career as well. He averaged over 40% in the Spanish league and 43% at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. He never shot the volume Sam Perkins did, though.
Sabonis definitely started to pave the way but then NBA left the construction site stalled by a little more than a decade before paving it again.
Stretch 5 meaning a guy who doesn’t only play under the basket on offense, and can guard smaller players on defense. That used to be only PFs while Centers were just 7 footers to park in the paint
I mean he was the first center that could lead your team in steals. His footwork in the post was far more influential though. Still trains guys today.
The āstretchā in āstretch 5ā refers to stretching the floor by being able to shoot 3s lol
Eh, that’s a more modern definition. A big that can shoot mid range jumpers still stretches the floor, stretch in this instance is used about defenders and how they are set up.
If you’re “stretching out” to cover a center from the midrange, that makes it very difficult to cover the paint.
Stretch 5 has almost exclusively meant a center who can shoot 3s lol
What does leading the team in steals and footwork have to do with being a stretch 5?
I think he was trying to say that Hakeem lead in steals because he was playing and defending the perimeter more than the average big which would somewhat illustrate that he was a stretch 5
But I agree with you that he didnāt pave the way for stretch 5s - he moreso helped introduce a new archetype for Centers. Hakeem wasnāt the type of Center we see today who just sits on the perimeter and shoots 3s and these types of players on average canāt put their back to the basket like Hakeem did either.
If youāre talking about being a versatile defender then theres Bill Russell.
Yep exactly. He was a great defender, and I think what makes a great defender is versatility.
he made only 25 3’s in 18 years, lol
Sam Lacey lead the Kansas City Kings in steals in 1974, the second year steals were tracked. Iād be shocked if Wilt/Bill Russell werenāt unofficially doing it before that either.
MATT
BONNER
Heās basically the godfather of the type of big guys we have now. Tim Duncan to a similar degree as well.
did shaq say “sucked michael jordan off” to chuck lmaooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Said it while someone else was talking loll slick mf
Man yall are so miserable this was funny
Acting like this not how friends talk to each other lmao.
Can you blame them? The average redditor doesn’t have friends
I don’t have friends, this was still hilarious
This is how I show affection am I broken?
Shaq takes the bait every time š¤£š¤£
People here absolutely love complaining lol
They are funny as fuck but people here have a stick up their ass for no reason. They are for entertainment and have been since 08
After 9827 times of the exact same banter it gets a bit stale.
Itās hilarious watching r/nba act like they really want to see Melo and Vince Carter analysis more lmao
I mean shaq analysis is correct he wouldnt do anything in the post against shaq, jokic would just shoot it
Shaq is one of the few guys Jokic could not post up against dude was 350 and athletic as hell. Also, Shaq would absolutely BBQ Jokic in return. Nobody on earth is guarding prime Shaq 1v1 without getting cooked.
Prime shaq was that athletic cause he weighed around 300 lbs at 7’1 in the nba comine. He wasnt the less athletic mass that he was later on in his career when he was rocking 350 lbs.
When Shaq was 350 he was winning rings and still probably the best player in the world (99-2002). I mean you should know because he was putting belt to ass on your spurs every year lol.
Duncan outscored shaq in head to heads in the playoffs. Series are tied 3-3 games won and lost was 15 to 15
Yeah spurs consistently did everything in their power to slow shaq down, primarily by having duncan play the 4 and have a slew of goons hacking shaq with duncan coming on the help. Most of the times we beat them it was due to kobe because he broke the system and is one of the reasons i always defend kobe in those years. Yes shaq was better but our biggest competition for years was the spurs and kobe was our best player againdt them.
Well Lakers also had guys like Medvendenko, Samaki Walker and Robert Horry to throw at Duncan…
That was more of a case of what the Lakers roster would have been regardless. The other teams in the league had to make roster sacrifices in order to Shaq-proof their team. The goons served little purpose other than to absorb fouls and put Shaq at the line.
Let’s not pretend duncan was some offensive juggernaut
What the fuck you mean?
Shaq himself has called Duncan an offensive juggernaut. Heās literally the person who coined ābig fundamentalā and gives love to Duncan all the time.
Smh, these young fans be sleeping on prime Tim Duncan⦠dude was a machine on both ends of the floor
He was just boring. Not as flashy as watching shaq highlights so the young Gen thinks he was a slouch or something. I feel like more of the younger generation remember post 2010 Duncan and never really take the time to learn how much of a beast he was in the 2000s
He averaged 29/17/5 against prime Shaq in 2002, 28/12/5 the year after, he was a highly effective scorer in the playoffs till his late 30s.
But that’s in no small part because the Spurs were so focused on Shaq. You can’t really gameplan around both the freak-of-nature Center and one of the all-time offensive guards.
Wat
Don’t ask a Spurs fan what happened between the years of 2000-2002. Or 2004.
Duncan didnāt have buns getting frayed just to guard him lmao. Donāt get it twisted
Im a huge Timmy fan but prime Shaq is in a different tier to prime Timmy.
Shaq was only ok. Kobe was the one putting his foot up Popās ass for 15 years
I didn’t say Duncan wasn’t cooking but I feel like it’s strange to compare since Duncan was the main offensive outlet.Ā Shaq kinda had to you know pass to another guy named Kobe Bryant (who was also putting belt to ass). I’m not hating it’s just the truth. The majority opinion is the Lakers usually owned the Spurs I mean they deadass swept them twice(01, 02) and then made sure they couldn’t repeat in 04.Ā
No I was responding to Shaq dominating the spurs. He didn’t. I would agree with you that kobe always killed us but when we had Timmy and David both sides had one sweep against the other one of the series had went 5 (lakers)and one went 6( spurs). David’s last year was 03.
Ben wallace
I mostly agree but in what era? If right now, shaq is getting fouled out and quick. Joker is too smart and sneaky with his foul baiting. I also feel older wilt when he was up to 320 lbs could guard shaq without requiring a second defensive player. Shaq would still get his most likely but it would be dofficult to keep it up with wilts stamina.
Iām a huge jokic fan and i šÆ% agree with this. Jokic however might beat Shaqās team with his passes.
Thatās weird because Dennis Rodman shut him down one on oneā¦
People glaze Shaq way too fuckin much.
If he a half the big he makes himself out to be heās have had more rings.
He was also, for how incredible he was, not nearly the defender that he was an offensive player.
Today’s modern NBA might be a feasting ground for Shaq but Prime/Lakers Shaq would be giving up open shots all damn game because every team would put him in pick and roll all game and he would have no chance at handling any kind of heavy perimeter rotation like teams run today.
In today’s NBA, Shaq would score 40 and give up 50. He would be a massive liability on defense, to the point of being a net negative.
Let’s be real Shaq would dominate this era as well just like Dream would. But Shaq’s prime would not last more than a few years than he would dominate super bowl half time show or some c grade movies.
Nah if Hakeem could do it so can Jokic.
Hakeem is the greatest post player ever, jokic just bullies most centers weaker than him. Hakeem footwork clears.
Shaq looked old
I’ve got some shocking news for you…
He’s only 53
That is shocking
Heās one year younger than Ricky Martin
Shaq’s xVidaLoca numbers would be a joke in today’s game
That’s hella shocking to me. I would have guessed Shaq was 46 if I did quick mental math in my head in a conversation.
Old shaq + Ozempic Barkley hit different
Is he in ozempic too? Shit
He looks his age, just giant
Hakeem was a beast tho
Force of nature.
Shaq has such a bizarre history. Before he won a title in ā00, his teams lost in sweep every year he was in the playoffs except in ā97 (Lakers lost in 5 to the Jazz in the second round). Doesnāt really mean anything but kind of a weird history quirk.
ff15 type player. respect it
Confused how Final Fantasy is related let alone XV of all the games.
Lol terms forfeit at 15
ff15?
forfeit at 15minutes into the game, the earliest you can start a surrender vote in league of legends.
its used as slang for “giving up” or “this is unwinnable”.
BG go next noob team
This mean Zion has a chance for redemption
āDoesnāt really mean anythingā
Lol, letās just disregard data. It means Shaq was overrated.
Shaq: āHistorically nobody has ever beaten me shooting jumpers. Only one guy has ever beaten me shooting jumpers and that was Hakeem Olajuwonā
???
Shaquille “except that one time” O’Neal
Yeah but if the pull is Hakeem that’s basically the exception proving the rule
Like how Harden has the most 3 points made ever as long as you exclude Curry
Also it’s just a made up just so Shaq can pump himself up, like what does it actually mean? Nobody analyzes how many people beat Lebron or Jordan only shooting jumpers
I donāt think Jokic would do well inside against Shaq, but Jokic would stretch and play high so much Shaq would either never be on him or else heād be completely exhausted
Agreed. I think we often underestimate how much energy it takes to guard in space in todayās game.
I feel like peak Shaq in todays era would be Orlando Shaq, as he would be fit and mobile enough to guard in space.
Part of reason why Shaq got that heavy was he’s getting pounded by everyone who guarded him.
In more protective league today, unless guards like Caruso allowed to outright elbow him, he don’t need and have a reason to become a 350+ monster.
It would be pretty damn fun to watch prime Shaq and Jokic go head to head. I imagine both would need help defensively, so it would really depend on who the rest of their teams are
They’d both wear each other the fuck out and end up having horrible 4th quarters lol
Dream gave Shaq Post work with OT taxes, but Shaq has 4 rings.
Meanwhile Charles only went to the Finals once, and Kenny was a role player.
Also the Suns were up on the Rockets 3-2 then lost in 7. Charles then joined the Rockets and lost to the Jazz.
I mean it’s no question Shaq is the best player of the group. But unfortunately he is typically the one who is the most reluctant to ever say another player is great or potentially better than he is.
He gave Jokic respect in this clip
He is literally the only guy that he gives flowers consistently, but even still in 2024 he said sga deserved mvp in his face
Lmao
Always funny to think that Kenny, despite being the clear worst player of the group, was a key player in the teams that stopped Barkley from ever getting a chip and stopped young Shaq from getting a chip.
Thatās wrong, shaq habitually will say various guards are better players than he is, and generally gives skilled centers kudos. He just hates low skill centers.
I mean thatās usually what gets you to that level
Nah every other top 10 player is humble. Shaq is the most insecure great in basketball
Tell me youāve never heard LeBron talk lmao
Tf you talking about? He openly believes heās the GOAT but he doesnāt disparage other players. Thatās what weāre talking about here.
Op literally said humble. If LeBron thinks heās the best of all time but MJ doesnāt think he is himself, you think thatās what humble looks like? Ok buddy
You can think/say you’re the best of all time while still being humble. They aren’t mutually exclusive
Shaq always gets defensive when compared to other players. It’s obvious that he is insecure about it
It’s because he knows that he could have been the GOAT if he actually gave a shit and didn’t spend his NBA formative years wanting to be in Kazaam or to be a rapper or to star in a fighting video game. Then he spent his prime years coming in every season significantly overweight when every single one of those things failed.
Dude’s literally top 15 all time and he hardly gave a shit. Imagine what he would have been had he been driven like Jordan, or Kobe, or Lebron for that matter.
No, back up two comments. We were originally talking about disparaging other players. You said that great players all do that. They do not.
Suns were up 2-0 going back to Phoenix in 1994, but lost the next 3, won Game 6, and lost in Game 7.
Suns were up 3-1 with 2 of the last 3 in Phoenix in 1995, and lost all 3.
They’re friends making fun of each other nobody believes Shaq is actually a bum
How many Shaq got without a generational superstar?
There isnt anyone in the NBA right now who is like Hakeem.
Embiid
Shaq played well in that series and everyone forgets because Penny didnāt and Nick Anderson all time choked
Spurs swept a young Shaq and Kobe.
Hakeem swept Shaq and Penny.
Shaq was swept 6 times in the playoffs:
He also lost 4-1 twice:
tell Chuck
The 2004 loss to pistons in the finals was not a sweep. Kobe hit the game tying 3 at the end of game 2 and the Lakers won in OT - then lost the next 4. If i remember correctly.
Yaāll will never make me hate these guys you fking dorks š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
His arrogance used to annoy me, but now he’s just an old bitter man who can’t laugh at himself or find even an inkling of humility. It’s just sad at this point.
I remember thinking the javale McGee thing was funny. But in retrospect why is somebody like Shaq feeling self conscious enough to start shit with javale mcgee who was like, a decent starting center at his peak.
The Shaqass is a shit-bucket-throwing monster of a human and his continued NBA broadcast employment only gets more annoying by the minute.
Shaq so insecure
“I ain’t sensitive I’ll beat your ass” - Shaq
I don’t mind the banter, but every show it devolves into this.
What do you mean, “devolves”? This IS the show.
It’s more of a surprise when they talk about the game
Why do people keep acting like they never talk about the games? They do it all of the time, it’s just their banter and joking around is what gets all of the attention.
You must have caught a rare episode They are unserious very often
They do both. They banter and talk about the games.
Here and there itās fine. And they still have their good banter moments but itās less and less
The shtick has been beaten to death at this point
I still like it a lot
Shaq is so insecure, They’re just joking with him and he takes it so serious.
Not as serious as r/nba is taking this
I stand that heās still the greatest two-way player the game has ever seen and would have absolutely killed it in the modern nba.
He’s the only guy who ever had 200 blocks and 200 steals in a season.
His FT rate suggests he could have had a marginal 3pt shot. Not great, but enough that it might draw guys out of the paint or leave him open for a 3 when training or initializing offense at the top of the key with a guard. gives him several options off picks.
Quite mobile so I think he would have switched well.
I think he would have been a healthier, better defensive Embid as a very rough comparison in terms of his impact as a center. And able to play heavy minutes better.
19⁄20 yr old shaq was a thing for 2 yrs. He became a lumbering mountain for most of his career. He wasn’t going to play like that for 10 yrs, as Giannis or someone like him. it wasn’t in his game. He had almost no shot outside of the immediate paint around the hoop. Unless he spent his offtime training on his shot and keeping himself thin enough to run up and down, i doubt he would have killed anything in the modern NBA other than his playing time.
Shaq missed the playoffs in his rookie year. He then got swept from the playoffs in each of the next three seasons, and in five out of the next six seasons, before he won his first championship.
You just know Shaq would say something, “How many did you get to the finals?”
Honestly Shaq wasn’t annoying this time, but he took the bait like usual. Then, he finished with the classic “I won 4 times”
The Big Insecure
Glad to see the āRingsā argument from Shaq has shifted slightly to āhow many times I made the Finals.ā Heās growing as an analyst.
I mean Shaq routinely says Bryan Reeves was one of his hardest matchups and big grizz reeves is like jokic in a lot of ways. So I could see Jokic giving him trouble but I don’t think shaq would be embarrassed by it
Hakeem was the goat center, Iād stand by that. What he did in his time was unmatched on both ends
We all know Shaq would be the biggest flopper in the modern NBA. He’s only kidding himself.
Brought to you by poison
Stretch 5 vs Tight 5
Chuck should’ve asked Shaq how many times he shit in a teammates shoe
I knew Shaq would bring up the rings
Shaq is looking old.
The celebrity ozempic face is so prevalent and still so offputting.
I guess I dont pay enough attention, which of them? Shaq and Chuck both would probably prolong their lifespans substantially if they lost weight.
Remember that that the magic beat the Bulls with Jordan on the team.
In the span of a few years, my view on this kind of clip has changed.
I used to eat this kind of stuff up. Four bros just chopping it up, busting balls, talking NBA.
Now I realize that the media landscape for the past few years, save this year, was so starved for commentary by former players.
With the oversaturation of NBA vets in media, there are so many places to get this kind of analysis. A lot of the newer production teams have better formatting and more interesting discussion styles. The points I hear brought up on the Amazon Prime production or the Peacock production shows me that a lot of people are working hard to find storylines in the NBA season that are fresh and relevant
Let this show die already
Shaq dominated the weakest C era, and was getting fits from a broken Sabas and a 2 pack a day Vlade. When things picked up Yao packed his shit 3x in a row, and Ben Wallace was holding em down…
I know Reddit loves to hate Shaq but quit acting like he wouldnāt be as dominant as he was in any era
Watched him live.
Shaq would be getting bamboozled by current era players.
I watched em live. In the golden age he was getting handled by Cs, he wasn’t that dominant then and anything pre 1993 he’d be just another great C.
Don’t forget that an outside shooting and or post-heavy C used to bust his ass. The promo and athleticism did wonders for his image but with Jokic and even KAT outside he’d be just another victim
I know Silver canāt wait for these parasites to get off the air. My goodness
Its such a embarrassing show at this point
This is the most common banter ever
Donāt listen to lakers fans they just got all up in their feelings after chuck criticized the lakers
