Anthony Edwards says Memphis has dirty hotel rooms
Haha Ant is going to find a nasty surprise in his hotel room next time the Wolves play the Grizzlies
They’d leave a used condom but Ant wouldn’t know what it is.
i hate Memphis, theres always wet stretchy things on my pillow
It’s an awful tasting, partially blown up balloon
A clean room? Shit would be some psychological warfare and throw him off his game
So his usual experience in Memphis?
Send da chamber maid
It’s Memphis, everyone has that opportunity lmao
Yo shoot out Memphis
They already do that here
I had a great time on beale st. But yeah if you go to the wrong area you’ll get got.
Lived in Nashville for 7 years, but Memphis was my favorite city in Tennessee. Better food, better music, and something about the racial tension and threat of danger reminded me of how it was back home in Macon, GA. I joke but I would genuinely live there over Nashville if I were in Tennessee again.
Yeah Nashville sucks tbh. I’ve only been to Memphis once but loved it.
Nashville is as inauthentic and manufactured as they come, and it’s expensive as all hell.
“something about the racial tension and threat of danger reminded me of how it was back home in Macon, GA”
Yea this tracks lmfao. Memphis really is just an upgraded version of Macon.
Lmao I’m glad someone knows. When people ask me about Macon, I always say “imagine Memphis but 4-5 times smaller”
Shhh. Please just tell people it’s scary here. No one needs to know the secret!
Yeah memphis rocks tbh. I think rep is key in keeping the gentrifiers out
thatsthejoke.jpg
Literally landed in Memphis and within 24 hours had my rental shot up…then stolen and totaled. Police were not surprised at all.
Sucks for you. Lived here 30 years and never had a problem.
I lived in West Memphis a couple blocks away from sect 8 apartment complex and never had anything happen to myself or vehicle.
2nd day after I moved in, I did hear a nice automatic gunfire exchange though.
West Memphis, like across the bridge?
Yeah, it’s a different city and different state.
Different world
love the logic of X thing must not be true because it’s never happened to me.
This observable and well documented thing is NOT TRUE. I live in a wealthy neighborhood in the suburbs and have never seen even one jaywalker! Yes of course, I vote for policies that affect everybody else based on my own naïveté, why?
There’s very little crime in my town, the next town over used to be a war zone for latin gangs.
Now it’s all been gentrified
Did they say it wasn’t true?
Boomer mentality.
https://realestate.usnews.com/places/rankings/most-dangerous-places
As someone who has lived in the #2 location on that list for most of his life I understand why OP said what he said. Is it dangerous in certain areas? Sure. Yet if you use common sense you’ll be absolutely fine. Not once have I ever felt unsafe or had something happen.
Wow I’ve never seen this before
What got me was the matter-of-fact response from the police. The patrol officer was like, “of course your car was stolen here”. He predicted it would be located the same day (it was) and had been used in other crimes (it had).
car stolen in city. more at 11.
Wow. I didn’t know that. You’re telling me now for the first time.
Lived in #1 and #8 and only had my car rifled through because I didn’t lock it. People are nice enough to not break the windows if the door was locked.
I also lived in 1 and 8. Someone broke into my house in #1, it was somewhat my fault. Someone tried to steal my vehicle in #8. Both are top 5 towns in the country though.
This is a list of like, all the best cities I’ve visited. I’m sure living in places is different than doing a gig or whatever but damn these places are amazing imo
Tacoma on there is buck wild
Should be Spokane over it
Gotta get those property crime numbers up
You know, going over this list, a weird thing I noticed is how much lower the populations of some of these cities are than I thought. For some reason I thought Baltimore and Detroit would have populations over a million… and St. Louis basically only has a population of a quarter million???
Migjt just be the city and not the metro. People mostly think of metro when thinking cities too so i can a bit confusing. No Sure about these specific cases though.
St Louis proper is very small, but including the metro is like 2.75 mil or something IIRC
Pueblo? Wtf lol.
You haven’t heard about the mean streets of Pueblo?
I lived there for my first 26 years. It’s really about knowing where you are at all times. But it has gotten worse. I moved 5 years ago.
Whatever you say
JA has been summoned
Dont OKC only have one haunted hotel they all stay in
Now they stay in the Omni hotel I think, but legend had it that the Skirvin was haunted yes
It’s really called The Skirvin? I thought that was made up?
That’s the name
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skirvin_Hilton_Hotel
The Skirvin? LMAO
Yeah it’s haunted by the ghost of Russel Wedtbrook’s potential.
Boy you sure rushed to get that comment up huh
There was less time between your comment and his, then his comment and the one he responded to.
On my screen it shows moby’s comment as being older than noise rock’s comment. They’re probably seeing the same thing and joking about it
Pretty ballsy for a 6ers fan to say it too
I’ll take the unrealized potential of a 1st ballot HOFer and a top 10 PG all time
Jesus. Russ had been to the finals, and also achieved MVP with the thunder. What a hater ass comment.
(Im saying they shouldn’t have traded him)
Ah, your clarification helps, thanks. The way it was worded allowed for multiple interpretations.
Well that just means he made great art
You’re goofy for that then. He spent by far his best years in OKC, then was traded by his own request to allow us to rebuild and restructure after PG was already traded.
And built from all his bricks
It used to be the only one up to nba standards in the old days if I’m not mistaken, now there are some others but the legend still stands (I’m brazilian and never been there but I remember seeing an article about it)
The hotel teams stay at in Milwaukee is supposedly haunted and some guys refuse to stay there and stay at a different hotel
Haunted by a Wisconsinite who died on the toilet after eating too many brats but the cheese kept him stopped up. Sometimes people report they can smell cheese curds and brats on the grill when they’re dumping out.
I believe him. The hotel the away NBA team stays at in Memphis is super small and can be had on a non game night for like $175
I was in Memphis last year in a ‘nice’ downtown hotel last year and the entire first and second floors flooded
But was it a nice flood?
I love a good lazy river
Continental breakfast in an inner tube does sound like an ok way to start the day.
To be fair, the website said the hotel was on the water
Did you even say thank you?
Guessing they dont have a Ritz or Four Seasons in Memphis
No but they have a giant Bass Pro Shops shaped like pyramid and made out of glass, so checkmate.
why don’t they just stay there, have a camping retreat.
edit: okay i get it, there’s a hotel in there.
There actually is a hotel in the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid
Silly boy that ugly amalgamation of other real beautiful architecture is only meant to sell you dogshit products.
No need for camping, there’s a hotel at the top of the pyramid.
https://big-cypress.com/
I miss going to basketball games there, dumbass acoustics and everything else be damned.
Why would they care about a landscaping company?
Vancouver has three Fairmont hotels downtown.
Sorry Captain America, the Grizzlies don’t play in Vancouver anymore.
Which one? I know a lot of teams stay at the Westin because it’s like right across the street but the C’s used to stay at the Peabody (not sure if they still do, the definitely did in 2018 when Kyrie was on the club). That place is considerably more expensive and for good reason.
Eh. The Peabody is nice but its rooms are tiny. The Westin is a much more appropriate hotel for NBA teams.
Yea the ducks, right?
Kyrie likes to watch the ducks obviously
I remember because he gave some homeless guy in a wheelchair the cash he had in his pocket. It was like $400 which obviously wasn’t much to Kyrie but probably made a huge short term difference to the legless guy on Union Ave.
I stayed at the Westin a couple years ago as the Suns players were coming out. I thought the hotel was nice and clean. Unless they’re staying elsewhere now.
They stay at either the Hyatt Centric or Westin, except a handful of teams. I think the Knicks still stay at The Peabody.
Yeah the one right across the street is dingy. It’s not the worst in the country, but compared to every other stop in NBA travels (ritz, post oak, comcast center, mandarin oriental etc) it’s certainly the worst by a fairly wide margin.
Which hotel do they stay at? The Peabody seems like it could fit them and it’s really very nice
The Westin. It gets selected because of proximity. I know for game day shoot arounds they don’t even bus over, they just walk over.
I love small-market hate threads. The insight, the nuance, the vitriol. They’re great
You ever hear someone say “I’m going to cleveland for vacation”?
edit: I’m amused at how many serious replies I’m getting from a joakim noah meme.
“We’d all like to flee to the Cleve and club-hop down at the Flats and have lunch with Little Richard…but we fight those urges because we have responsibilities!”
Yes
Well you probably live in Akron
That person clearly hasn’t seen 30 rock
If I lived closer it would be a fun weekend trip. Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Lake Erie, catch a sporting event or concert, and explore the food scene.
Their art museum is pretty cool too. I’ve never seen so many suits of armor in one place
Seconded. Plus you can see The Thinker in person
Natural History museum is freshly remodeled too. Right next door.
The rock and roll hall of fame is one of the most boring museums i have ever been to. Some pretty decent restaurants though I agree.
Hey when you have boys who are NBA fans you spend a lot of little mini vacations in these cities like Cleveland and Milwaukee and Minnesota that normally might not be your tourist destination. And even then that doesn’t guarantee their fucking favorite player is ever going to play but I digress.
Sometimes certain fanbases start bragging about how much their tickets cost compared to the small market teams to show how much better they are
That’s why being a Kings fan makes me superior. Not only are we a small market team, but we also have more expensive tickets than a lot of larger market teams.
welcome to the nba the only sport other than baseball that can get away with calling a team that plays in California a “small market”.
When you ask young men and women where they wanna live after they graduate high school, they got 4 answers. Los Angeles. New York City. Miami. Sacramento. Wow.
I don’t know how to interpret this from a Seattle SuperSonics fanbase standpoint. 🤔
Bragging about your ticket prices being higher makes you an elitist snob & douche regardless of where you might live. Does that provide insight
I mean yeah, no one wants high price tickets other than the nba owners and the players.
Seattle flairs on here are either:
OKC super-fans
A 99th percentile OKC hater
Bro your team doesnt even have ticket prices.
Found the guy who brags about spending more money for the same thing
That’s one benefit of Indianapolis being a major convention town, they have really nice hotels. They’ve got the JW, the Conrad (where teams often stay) and both a Ritz Carlton and Hilton Signia under construction
“Stains and shit” wtf lol
stains and shit
“Stains and shit, that’s Memphis baby”
Thanks, Ant! There’s always a need for more slander material to use against Memphis in r/nba. 🤪
But in all seriousness, I wish that more teams would book rooms at the Peabody instead of the Westin. It’s a beautiful historic hotel with lots of history, plus you might get the chance to see the cute duckies march in and hop in the fountain!
I’ve been to Memphis once, and stayed at the Peabody. Why anyone would want to stay anywhere else is beyond my.
Plus those ducks are awesome. Highlight of my trip there.
The rooms were terrible, I think a recent renovation has made the rooms better
They’re much better now.
Fun fact: they actually do custom beds for the teams. For every game they take out the existing bed and put together extra long beds in the rooms. The visiting team leaves and they disassemble that and out the normal beds back in.
Maybe they do this everywhere I don’t know, I just know that’s what they do at the Westin.
meanwhile OKC used to subject visiting teams to a haunted hotel lol
I’ve always wondered if we just had some hotel staff keep visiting players up all night with “unexplained noises” lol
Scott Brooks in the hallway with a theremin going “BOOOoooooOOOOooooo” all night
To be fair, ghosts aren’t real.
Fuck you too buddy
Is Memphis the Dirty Galveston Beach of hotel rooms?
I lol-ed.
What’s the guys name he’s on with? I’ve seen a few videos and they’re funny as hell but have no idea who the guy is
Caleb Pressley.
Also the show is called Sundae Conversation on YouTube
The Tom Brady interview is an all-time great
Great, thanks Ant. It’s been awhile since Memphis was slandered on r/nba
/s
didn’t MPJ say memphis was his least favorite city to visit on the road? lol
Shoulda stayed in the pyramid smh
Ant is funny guy
Vancouver is a world class city… we got robbed.
Hey man, y’all weren’t going to them games. Them seats used to be ass-naked during those games. Great city but damn, y’all did not care about basketball
Yeah IMO the NBA came to Vancouver 5-10 years too early, nobody gave a shit about basketball here until Steve Nash’s MVP run. That and the Canadian economy was struggling big time at the turn of the Millennium and we didn’t have someone like Vince Carter to put butts in seats.
I’m glad you brought up Carter. Whenever I hear Canadian hoppers say how he was Canada’s version of Jordan, it just reinforces to me that the league gave yall franchises earlier than y’all were ready to embrace and support pro ball. Not a knock or anything, the league just didn’t do enough homework on Vancouver
Spot on, the Canadian public in general were pretty clueless about basketball when the NBA came; they ran segments on the basic rules on Canadian sports TV and handed out cheat sheets at games in the early years. I truly believe that the grizzlies would still be in Vancouver id given a couple more years. Like Yao Ming coming to Vancouver would’ve instantly sold out due to the large Chinese population we have here and may have bought the team just enough time to survive until the Steve Nash MVP seasons
east hasting is a world class street
Arrived late to a hotel room in Memphis a few years ago. Crashed out tired, hit the bed. In the morning, we saw that there were dried out dog turds behind the door.
Thanks, Rodeway Inn!!
Tf we do
I felt on my first day in Memphis how other minorities must feel in other places. I went to a McDonald’s on Sycamore View, and the guy running the drive-thru said he wasn’t taking any white boy’s money. What a wonderful place to live.
He’s not wrong.
That sounds like the wolves staff did a bad job picking hotels. Everywhere has great and also has shitty hotels
Not memphis. There’s shitty hotels and theres slightly less shitty hotels
This interviewer is hilarious
The one he does with Hali is incredible
Stains and shit? Just so quick lol
Just bring them to yours and stop going to theirs man.
Not hotels, but Memphis has the worst airport I have ever been to.
Must’ve been before they redid it a few years ago. Down to one terminal and everything is super nice, but yeah it was rough before then
Ah yeah, I haven’t been there in several years, I suppose I should have provided that disclaimer. Glad to hear it’s nicer now, at least
New terminal is super nice, I was impressed! The baggage claim is still disgusting IMO. And bathrooms are objectively vile
Man. We just say anything on this sub. The airport is phenomenal. Its redone and everything. But people will upvote this because they see Memphis as trash without ever being there
I love this dude I need the full video
Ant using his celebrity to bankrupt Memphis hotels.
Where is this whole interview?
Must be staying at the Rainbow Inn
Best interviewer in all of media
Worst hotel I ever stayed in was a hotel in Memphis
Stayed in Memphis during weekdays for a 6 month work assignment and I can confirm the hotels are dirty AF. Love the duck march at the Peabody though
Can’t wait til he comes back to Memphis. Where the hell are they putting you up ? And cheap “shot” there, Anthony
Memphis is straight up nasty. It ain’t just the hotel rooms!
I wonder why Grizzlies were moved from Vancouver
Because niceness of luxury hotels for visiting teams probably wasn’t one of the considerations?
City of the blues lol 😆😆😆
Ant was like “nah nah nah, I have consequences in my community. You don’t.” Lol
Guess they wasn’t at the Peabody, lol sound like he was at a red roof.
LOL …. True
Who is this interview host? In just like a 20 second clip, I am in love and need more.
Caleb Pressley, its a joke interview that I can’t believe so many don’t understand.
Memphis has the worst bar service I’ve ever had. I went for a work trip so I was spending someone else’s money and couldn’t get a drinks without major hassle anywhere. The fucking airport bar took like 1⁄2 an hour to hand out some beers. Do service workers all get their tips stolen or something there, or is it something in the water?
I swear this dude is the most childish adult. Acts like middle schoolers I teach.
Bruhhhh 💀💀
I don’t believe you, Ant, need proof.
Send da video.
Ant is on a tear to make as many enemies as possible
We got a lot more than that
Well damn
I’ve been all around the world. The dirtiest hotel I’ve ever been in was in Memphis. Joe’s apartment level roaches. Left didn’t not ask for a refund just bounced.
Holmgren was two feet out of bounds when he caught that but okay
This guy obviously is not ever making Ants whiteboy Mt. Rushmore.
Can concur. Found roaches in ours.
I worked at the Westin in Memphis when visiting teams used to stay there, AMA. Saw and heard some interesting things.
Ah na na na 🤣
The more I watch Ant, the more I realize how dumb he is.
Who is the guy doing the interview??? He looks familiar.
