[Highlight] Some Dylan Harper highlights—quite the bag for the rookie point-guard
him and castle are going to be a nasty backcourt duo for the spurs in the long term future
I think fox is still in that future
Only way that happens is if one of the three accepts the Manu role and I don’t really expect any reasonable athlete in their prime to do so. Manu was a one of one unicorn in that regard. Imagine convincing a future hall of famer, one the of the best players in the world who took down the US in the Olympics, to accept a lesser role like that.
Was it a good choice for Manu? Absolutely but that’s just my biased ass saying that and also there is no way anyone could have predicted it would have worked out that way for Manu.
Also the money factor really just blows the doors off this conversation. I wouldn’t expect anyone in their right mind to turn down superstar generational money to be a 6th man if they are really that good. As a Spurs fan I want better for my boys even if that means seeking greener pastures in the future
Feel like it can be fox, he’ll have his money. I highly doubt he’s going for another max at age 33.
Now we just need to pair them with a good center!
He would be getting as much hype as cooper and kon if he wasn’t on a contender filling a role.
this whole draft class is incredible
Spurs getting him was such bullshit. Even worse than Flagg in Dallas because atleast he doesn’t have players like Wemby and Castle
agreed but I am not complaining as a spurs fan lol
For sure lol spurs flying up to 2 was garbage i was hoping wizards would get him and see if they could build up with Harper,George, sarr.
I honestly agree but thank fucking God lol we know Daddy Ron is happy as a clam
Because he wants Dylan to starting winning early. Plus Bruce Bowen is one of Ron Harper’s closest friends so he knows what comes with being a spur. He played with Jordan and Pippen, he probably had tears of joy when he saw the Spurs at 2 because his son gets to be a Robin to a future GOAT candidate.
he specifically said growing as a player and a man, says he’ll grow the right way, he loves the Spurs culture that Pop represented for the players and how he took care of them. Now he’s not in the same role but at least he stays in the organisation
But yeah he’s also in a great situation for winning
Yeah if nba gonna give your team a number 2 pick can’t complain
In fact, us having either flagg, harper, kon amd vj is kinda unfair regardless. And ironically, short term wise having harper maybe the worst.
Was supposed to have AD and Kyrie
I don’t think it’s hyperbolic to say that you can make a real argument that as a 19-year-old he’s been a top five player overall For the third best team in the league
A lot is said about how the Spurs three guards overlap a lot, but the reality is Harper brings a level of change of pace, dynamic playmaking, and absolutely preposterous rim pressure that even Castle and Fox can’t quite match
He gets a bit out of control at times, the jumper has been a genuine mess for stretches, And he has an absolute terrible whistle, even for a rookie
But he’s been a much better defender than most people expected, a genuine positive on that end, and the kind of takeover dynamic offensive option that keeps defenses from ever being able to take a break Even without a consistent jumper at all right now. He’s still absolutely unstoppable going to the paint and can get there literally anytime he wants
If he was getting 30 plus minutes on a team giving him high usage he would absolutely be getting the same kind of accolades and hype that Cooper and kon are
I think all of the players who went top four in this year’s draft have all NBA potential which is insane
The guy gets to the rim like TP9 did
I hope he grows his fro out to be even more poofy
He got it cut down a bit. I was surprised to see that
If he had the Kyshawn George hair it would look cool when he’s doing his crafty moves.
This is just offense, which is great in the paint going to the rim, and a work in progress from distance.
What’s great about Harp is that he’s got ballhandling skills, he’s really fast, he’s a good point of attack defender, and is a willing and creative passer. I dunno if he’s a point guard but he’s got great bball IQ and is already a secondary playmaker for the Spurs off the bench. He makes boneheaded decisions sometimes but that’s fine, kid’s 19 years old. Love that Mitch tries to get him 20+ minutes every night.
People are saying in hindsight that San Antonio should have drafted Kon. I disagree. I really like Harp for his complete skillset. Only Coop has more overall potential from this extremely loaded rookie class.
Knew he’s special, glad he’s getting the chance more and more to prove it
Some talking head put him at 11 in his draft class. Insane.
What a luxury to have him come off the bench
This is a good problem for the Spurs, Fox is better now but Dylan is young and under rookie contract, Spurs can get a huge value if they trade Fox.
With foxes contract I don’t really think that is true .
Stud
I’m impressed
It’s not fair
Now that Fox has been named an all star and his value is perceived to be higher than it was a couple weeks ago, I’d consider selling while he’s high if I was the Spurs front office
Kind of hard sell if you’re the Spurs, and on Pace to win like 60 games. They’ve been genuinely very, very good with fox as their second best player. I get why people want to fix what they perceive is a likely future problem.. But the reality is right now there isn’t an actual on court problem at all that needs to be fixed even with Harper showing flashes of being a potential star one day.
The team’s playing well, all three of their guards are playing great in their roles, and San Antonio is not going to have to pay Harper for a hot minute and when they do it’s going to coincide with right around when Fox is going to come off the books
If some kind of can’t miss opportunity came up where they could turn Fox into a comparable player at a position of need (like trade him for an All-Star caliber 4 that can stretch the floor) then I would be open for it. And if the team really flames out in the playoffs and gets into next season with Harper looking like he’s taking a massive step… Then sure again something worth considering
But unless they’re getting back a player like that, the reality is they’re going to take a sizable step back without him which is a tough sell since they’re genuinely a championship caliber team right now .
He’s been much better than advertised on defense and a really solid second option on the third best team in the league
Well said. I personally am not too fond of a Fox for other reasons. But I could agree with each of your reasons
Could just not protect him in the expansion draft.
That is not how the Spurs operate. Spurs is respected for a reason
Only like one of these highlights is not him in the paint doing a layup
just flashy stuff for TikTok
here’s a typical night (last night v. the Suns)
Ah ok this is much better. I get nervous putting stock into guards when I don’t see a jumper
HA…he really does find a way to make layups like no one I have ever seen, not the best highlight video though
