Orlando’s high-tech glass basketball court offers a glimpse into the future
There’s someone out there who worked extremely hard so one day they could make it easier for multiple ads to be displayed on a basketball court
The 2k microtransactions have finally breached the physical dimension.
Glimpse into the future of courts filled with ads.
You mean ‘even more ads’ :)
Didn’t they use this when the All-Star game was in Indy 2 years ago?
I mean, the fukn cover photo is literally Tyrese Haliburton - I think from the skills challenge in 2024?
They did and it looked good. Ignoring the context of what it would actually be used for
Yup, was also used by Kentucky basketball like 2 years ago.
Now you can see live betting odds on the court during the game! Brought to you by DraftKings
It’s just going to be used for Kalshi and Polymarket odds on player props.
In the sport of squash, there’s a real controversy over the use of glass floors. It’s being pushed by the top but a lot of players hate it. The grip consistency isn’t right, where it’ll suddenly over grip during a slide, or under grip and players feet slide out from underneath them.
But there’s no money in the sport, if someone could actually figure out how to make it work…
Lots of examples in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Obl7M1vD-c&t=12s
You can fit so much gambling ads on this court.
live odds on every shot attempts
It was either prime or espn or peacock but there was a star enhanced nba view of a game they showed awhile back. It was like a video game where they had icons under the player of who that player was and some accompanying stats
I wish we went more with that technological angle and not altering a court.
Does it have the same bounce or give as wood?
Would this not be distracting for a real non exhibition game?
It’s softer than wood, so better for the athletes bodies. Also can draw up plays on the floor during practice.
It can be the image of a normal court for the whole game
Panathinaikos has an LED court in the Euroleague. It does look like a normal court during the game, but something is a bit off imo. It’s probably due to the fact that there is a lightsource from under the players as well. It wouldn’t be hard to get used to it tho’.
I think your eyes notice there is no shadow underneath the ball as it bounces
My issue is sort of with the lines. Can all the lines be painted onto the led as a known common GIVEN?
I don’t want a three point shot to go into question because that led flickered around a bit. Or a bad sketchy owner manipulated the files and made the opponents lines 2 inches too far out etc.
Imagine Draymond punching someone while one of those ‘stop hate’ ads are playing underneath him lol
End racism ad while he pickle punts some euro.
LMAO “pickle punts”
Such a pointless waste of money, time, and effort.
You lack imagination
You really don’t get the point?
No, I get the point. The point is for the developers to make money by selling it as revolutionary- when it is just a vehicle for dreck.
It will not help basketball players or make the viewing experience better. It will be neutral for players and worse for fans.
Better for owners, players from revenue sharing, advertisers…
Fans?? LOL
America’s top innovate minds and engineers got together and came up with a way to make ads revenue more efficient. Top work. I’m in awe.
So basically the basketball version of the ads on hockey sideboards kinda? (I mean the ones that only show on the broadcast)
I like it.
Can’t wait till Steph retires so I can stop watching this clown league
No thanks
Orlando doing everything but firing JM.
So if they are able to display adds directly on the court, does that interfere with ad revenue from broadcasting that was already planning on placing an add there? Will there be different ads for in person vs broadcast? If the venue gets to set the add, do they have to revenue with the broadcaster? Since the ad is being displayed by the building does the actual owner of said building get a revenue cut?
They made such a huge announcement about using this for the Big 12 tournament idk what to expect
That probably wouldn’t be as bad as it sounds.

I’ve worked on stage floors that use similar technology in the past, and they give off a considerable amount of heat. I can’t imagine playing an NBA game on what is essentially a heated surface.
